    Jack did an amazing job hosting the live stream. I hadn’t read any of the books but was still engaged for an hour and absolutely proud and impressed by Jack’s hosting abilities! 😊 also enjoyed the winner Paul Lynch’s acceptance speech and inspired by the whole night. Congratulations to Jack and Paul 🎉

    My family divvied up these books, my daughter and each of four of my sons, and I each reading one. We argued for our book to each other. We've done this each year for the past nine years. To be frank, we each appeared underwhelmed by this year's shortlisted books. Two were viewed as a tad less mediocre than the rest. These were This Other Eden, which probably won't win, and Prophet Song, which probably will. (Btw, for reference, three of us have books published.)

    To add some context to the quote: Bertolt Brecht was a German author/poet/playwright who lived through both world wars. I don't think it was his main focus (I'd say he's primarily known for his impact on theatre), but he was definitely among the many German writers who contributed to war/ post-war/ exile literature, so he himself was "singing about the dark times"

    I liked that excerpt from This Other Eden, it definitely made me want to know more about that guy!
    I'd rank them
    1 = Western Lane
    2 = This Other Eden
    3 = The Bee Sting
    4 = If I Survive You
    5 = Study Of Obedience
    6 = Prophet Song (I didn't like this one, I thought it was trying too hard to be poetic.)
    But thanks for sharing, I don't think I would have known/cared about any of them if not for you making this video.
    Apologies if I've missed it, but when is the actual booker prize ceremony, please and thank you?

      We don't know which nation he's supporting and for me, people have liberty if they want to or not speak up about a delicate matter. Also, just because you're supporting a certain nation's literature and people doesn't mean you're supporting the nation as whole. I love Russian literature and some of the authors and ballerinas but I don't support them invading Ukraine.

    JACK you promoted rebecca yarros' new book, even though she supports Israel. who, as we all know, is committing a genocide in Gaza right now.11,000 Palestinians dead. over 4,000 of them children. Do you share her views and are only 'supporting' Palestine for appearances? or do you usually make it a habit to contradict yourself?

      Oh dear! I hope I am never held to a political belief or ideology based on the books I read. Are we deemed a Nazi sympathizer if Mein Kampf is read? Can we still be a Republican if a book authored by an Obama is on our TBR? Is every book read, a promotion? I understand the magnitude of the horrific crimes occurring in Gaza, please don't assume I don't because I have questions.

      Supporting an AUTHOR'S book from a nation doesn't mean he supports THE nation. I love Russian literature and some of the authors and ballerinas but it doesn't mean I support Russian invading and colonizing Ukraine. It's like separating the art from the artist.
