Color is always a popular topic when it comes to fishing inshore but in this video Captain C.A. Richardson is really going to tell you how much he feels it actually matters. As always we want to know your thoughts on this and if you feel it is important, so please be sure to comment down below, and will try replying to as many of you as possible.

    CA I guarantee you no one had a better day in the big bend than I did today. I had a slam by lunch and PB'd 3 times on specks. Biggest was 26". I threw mirrodines all day. The broken glass mullet looking one and the gold black back broken glass. You like goldish lures in the sweet tea water and that killed. The big girl came at sunset on a bone topwater. Every hit just about today came on the pause. Twitch twitch pause loaded rod. Outstanding video as usual.

    Amazing tutorial! And easy going, easy to understand. Just what my old brain needs! Got all 5 basic colors and I’ll refer back to this video often for a refresh. Thank you so much for your classes Capt!

    You recommended the Z-man redbone last year on another video and I have been doing really well with it in Calcasieu Lake (Big Lake) Louisiana. Specs love it when its swam off the bottom.

    Thanks C.A. ! Awesome video, ive watched it 25+ times over the last year. A few months ago I started hand pouring my own paddletails, 5" and 4" and 5" jerkbaits. I've watched this video a TON when I got my molds out and the plastic is melted. There's a TON of home made open pour tutorials and colors for the bass guys, but absolutely nothing for a 95% dedicated inshore guy like me. I may bass fish 3-4 times a year, I inshore fish a few times a week. And I gotta say, you've helped me a ton. I'm a Salt Strong insider member and I found you through them. I use their power prawn lure mostly, and I throw my own jerkbaits and paddletails when I'm not using them. I made a lot of silly colors in the beginning and wasted a few gallons of plastic before I found this video. So thanks again man! You helped me catch good reds snook flounder and even a couple Julie tarpon on lures I made myself, with color guidance from you.

    I just fished the Houdini color over the weekend and it absolutely wrecked the trout. The water was clear but the bottom was sand and grass mix. Great tips capt! Thanks

    You know it's funny. Here on the Texas coast where the water is gin clear especially in the bays, we like really loud colors like plum/chart and strawberry/white. It's counterintuitive but it works here.

    I always use white with my soft baits. Maybe a little grey or chartreuse but always white. I rarely throw treble hook baits in saltwater. For freshwater I use green pumpkin, black, or purple. Great tips.

    I’ve always used natural colors and have done decent. Especially with paddle tail and ned rigs. However, a couple months ago, I had found some good redfish action in a river mouth on a mud flat. I left my usual zmans at home, but I had sexy mullet with me. The water clear but stained. The bottom was muddy with grass and shell on the bottom. Sexy mullet absolutely destroyed the pearl blue glimmer minnow z on back to back days. I was very suprised. Thanks for the tips cap!

      Dirtier water/bottom/skies, the darker the bait typically.
      Clear = light and realistic
      Stained = gold or brown
      Dirty or low light = dark (purple/black)

    Thanks for the actually useful content! So rare these days! I been wondering why some of my best peacock bass days were on a pink and white deceiver. BTW, I'd throw in a solid black and a solid white. Well done! Now I got to get on the vise and tie some more flies in new colors!

      @@flatsclasscharters Hey Capt. At 14:35 of the episode you said “when it’s bright and clear and I mean no sun” are you still referring to night or did you mean to say no sun? Just thought you were saying earlier that you didn’t need much flake when the sun is out and clear. Just a little confused was wondering if you could clear that up for me please sir? 🤙

    So our job as a fisherman or woman, is deceive fish into thinking the artificial lure that were throwing at them is the real deal , I myself have a hard time pitching fancy colored lures I guess because I was taught that keeping a lure or fly as natural to the real bait was the way to trick the fish into thinking it’s a real live bait , and then other things come into play , the way a bait moves in or on the water , size of the bait or lure , even smell has come into play , and now color , water clarity, water temperature, with so many lures to chose from we all search for the killer lure the quest of the #1 catch all lure , and this is what makes fish’n fun , we all have our old favorites, are go to lures that never fail , and then a new One hits the the market that you just gotta try ! Ahhh here we go again, I now have to confess! IM A LURE ADDICT ! 😩

    I fish the Texas coast and do a lot of wade fishing and the occasional boat drift... 1-4 ft of water, lots of sandy/grassy areas and mud bottoms.. Would you throw more soft baits or hard and why?
    That is an interesting topic for discussion, soft vs hard and why.

    So far my confidence colors for zman have been . Don't throw mirrolures to often because never know when the right time to throw them is. Soft plastics is all year long and in situations.
    1. Bad Shad
    2. The Wright Stuff
    3. Slam shady / Pearl
    4. Rootbeer / Chartreuse
    5 is the newest one to break into my top 5 is fried bologna
    6. Redfish toad
    I'm still messing around with other colors. But haven't got anything on purple demon nor anything black.
