    SO MANY TAKEAWAYS from today! But favorite is the way you shaped the crown of the hat - and the whole project looks so fun. Going to try it tonight with some of that lovely viscous and bamboo I got from you. I can see making a lot of these as gifts.

    Oh so fun! I just got some good materials for a resist and some luscious silk so I will definitely be trying this out and make fun little projects!!! 🥰 sucks that the live show is 4am in the morning in Korea 😭😭😭
    Question- is there a type of material that isn't good for using for resist?

    • @LivingFelt
      @LivingFelt  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for joining us from so far away! Avoid resists that are too rigid...they either slow down the felting by holding the fibers apart...or as the fibers felt, the pull away from the edges and cause holes.

  • @robynfocht3681

    I'm not clear what fulling is yet. Could you explain in a future wooly wed.?

    • @LivingFelt
      @LivingFelt  4 года назад +1

      Fulling is further shrinking of the felt. Once you have achieved "felt", the further agitation, rolling, rubbing, etc. is FULLING. When someone puts a knitted item in the washing machine to shrink it...that is fulling (not felting). When someone boils a fabric that is woven wool...that is FULLING.

    Hi Marie, could I use a Merino/Silk blend for the beanie?

    • @LivingFelt
      @LivingFelt  4 года назад

      Yes...but test the shrinkage on a sample first. Shrinkage will vary by % of silk ;)

  • @catiemajeau5246
    @catiemajeau5246 4 года назад +1

    I have the needle felted hat kit - how much shrinkage once you get to wet felting it? I have a big head and the foam hat mold included is about the size I need my finished hat. Do I need to get a bigger foam hat form? I bought the largest you carry

    • @LivingFelt
      @LivingFelt  4 года назад

      It will hardly shrink when you wet felt it...it does not get as flat as if you were to wet felt that fiber (MC-1 Batting) 100%. The wet felting part will tighten it up. Then put plastic over your hat form and put your wet hat on it to shape it / size it. For a snug fit, wrap fabric around the brim overnight, for more loose, put a spacer such as fabric on the foam first.

    This looks like a great project. My precious cousin who is more like a niece just had double mastectomy due to breast cancer. She has lost all of her hair so I want to make her this hat. I don't really want her to know I'm making it for her - is there a way of taking a hat of hers and measuring to get her size? Thank you for all of these great video tutorials

    • @LivingFelt
      @LivingFelt  4 года назад +1

      Yes..if she has a hat that does not need to stretch. Lay it flat, and that will be you target width..same with height.

    Marie, I'm trying to catch up with all the Wooly Wednesday's, life has been messy for a while and haven't been able to watch. I miss seeing you and the fairies. You made me smile so thank you for that. Love the beanie and I can see where I will be making a few of them. Question, a friend of mine gave me some merino, don't know where it was purchased or even how old it is, do you know if all merino wet felts the same, does merino come in different microns or all merino the same micron?

    Do you rinse it after the resist is removed?

    • @LivingFelt
      @LivingFelt  4 года назад

      There is a LOT of felting that happens after it comes off the resist. And yes, we rinse it after it is completely felted.

      You can shrink too much in one direction, or even overall...but just pause and check sizing. Usually, people do not felt it enough ;)
