    I followed your tutorial. I had some free alpaca straight from the animal that I hand carded and then used to felt the hat. The wool I had was quite short as it was seconds. Anyway, it took me five hours and 4 oz of wool but I really like my hat. I could felt the width to 30% but not the length. So I cut off a little and rolled the brim. Thank you for this video. I can find no one near me for lessons or advice. You were a god send.

    I had not realized the amount of shrinkage that can occur as you felt it more and the substantial fabric that it creates for the durability and texture. So amazed!

    Thank you for having this Tutorial in You Tube! I ordered 4 beanie kits. One for me and 3 for gifts, Christmas or otherwise. I will start my first one tomorrow! (or today since it's after midnight). eager to watch more tutorials! Once I feel that I have the process down, I will teach my sculpture class and art club how to do this. I'm thinking we could use some beanies as fundraisers. I was at the TAEA workshop in early November and we made a pod. It was very satisfying. I'm looking forward to this process. I do need a dowl rod or something. I bet a rolling pin would work nicely.

    Marie referred to the cowl process. Is the silk base for this actual silk fabric or a viscous fabric? Best takeaway - using herring bone layout to create some "stretch" and if more wool used less shrinkage will be achieved. As ever so informative. Thank you.

    • @LivingFelt
      @LivingFelt  3 года назад +1

      This silk we refer to for the base was for the cowl only and it was silk fabric we used silk gauze and for the hat there is no silk fabric.

    Have I missed something?! Did Marie cover two sides with crisscross layers, but then a second layer on just one side. So the embellishments were on the side with the two layers on. Hope that made sense! I've done my first side but hesitate to go further until I'm sure I've got it right! Thanks! Great tutorial.

    • @LivingFelt
      @LivingFelt  3 года назад +1

      She did a HERRINGBONE LAYOUT (diagonal layers) and then a vertical layer. She said you can do criss-cross if you prefer. The herringone really is ONE layer, but she says she thinks of it as "two" because the diagonal rows pull across each other...but...it was ONE Herringbone, and then ONE vertical. 1oz of fiber per side.

    My husband and I tried to figure this math out to do the resist and it looks huge!
    Hi all, I am trying to make the resist for the felt beanie on Utube. I am brain dead when it comes to math especially after having Covid. My hubster helped so can anyone confirm we have this right?
    My measurements are:
    15 inches tall with two for rolled
    up brim so 17 inches total tall
    21 1/2 inches wide
    So I take the
    17” divided by .6 = 35”{40% shrinkage}
    35” divided by 2 = 17.5” wide
    18” divided by .6=30”
    So my resist is 17.5 inches wide
    30 inches tall
    Can anyone confirm this for me please?

    • @bushyhartman7421
      @bushyhartman7421 11 месяцев назад

      Well I just used an old knit cap, put it on my resist and gave it a few extra inches all around for shrinkage, so much for math.
      I made mine in three hours not hurrying! Awesome!!!
