As an older person I can't say it enough times, we live in exciting times! The detail an amount of information given by a Professional in a field(in this case Ms. Zoe Hong)would of been basically imposible to get decades ago. Wow Zoe Hong listening and watching this video forces us to look at Ready To Wear and fast fashion completely different. Thanks for all these videos and information you provide through this wonderful channel!
Among all the manufacturing and warehousing jobs I’ve had, I worked as the janitor in a garment factory for awhile. I was efficient at the job, so over the months I read everything on every pin-board in the place. That, and the kind and appreciative women working there kept me sane. I ran out of reading material eventually, but then I got asked to sweep the rooms where they did the spec items. Hoorah! More charts and diagrams to read! This brings more clarity to what I had surmised from the information lying around. And explains a lot about the insane, and clever, design decisions, and manufacturing choices I see in the diversity of garments at thrift stores. It’s good to know how things are done, for anything.
The universe is multiplying on Zoey's blessings.... Im soo excited, we about to learn more 😭❤️❤️❤️ she keeps delivering like we paid her for it... Thank you Zoey. You're a God.
This was so detailed...I used to take weird measurements of customers that i just felt i needed to take so i could get the fit right. what you said at 10:37 just made it make sense
I love watching you. I have always wanted to design and for you to provide such valuable information warms my heart thank you so much I am still learning before I put my clothing line out . You are really informational and you know your stuff boo. Again thank you💋
Love this video. I have always seed with commercial patterns. This video comes at a time when I am trying to create my own patterns. I would love tweet more videos on creating a basic pattern.
i’m in high school and i’ve been obsessed with fashion since i was 4 my mother didn’t like the idea of me to be a stylist however i’m learning from your and some other channels i know i will do it one day thank you for your help❤️
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Yours is one of the only RUclips channels that really makes sense to me, gets to the real info that’s hard to find, and is just an incredible resource, I can’t tell you how helpful it is but one day I’ll be able to show it through my own progress
The flaw in the dress design is that the straps are attached to opposite sides so that when you unzip the dress to put it on, you wouldn’t be able to get in😂 This was an amazing video btw, I’d love to see more, thanks Zoe!💖
I don't understand how that is a flaw. Wouldn't you put the dress on like normal with straps to the side and then slip your arms through like a sleeve?
@@zoehongteaches to be fair Would another solution be to extend the zipper down further unless of course someone wants to contort themselves into the dress. but contortionist probably make a small market percentage

Flaw: When the dress is unzipped the person still could not get into it due to the straps being permanently sewn. They need to release somehow so the person could step into the dress with the zip open. Is that the error or am I wrong...need to know so I can learn from this. Thanks for the lesson. Learned alot. Thank you.
I would probably uncross the straps and shorten them but a side zip could also be a good solution! It's hard to deal with releasing and closing straps from the back and would look unsightly in the front.
Avona Star You mean, without a zipper? If the material were a knit or similar, which is stretchy enough that the fitted waist area can fit over the shoulders and bust - that would work.
Thank you for all this information Zoe! I decided to start teaching myself to sew because I am tired of never finding anything that fits me correctly without having to pay tons of money I don't have. I bought a pattern and when I started sewing it I realized wow, this is total crap, I'm going to have to learn more if I'm going to make the quality clothing I set out to make. I'm not trying to mass produce, only make myself and my children clothing. Thank you so much! Like someone else already said this type of information was previously unavailable anywhere except in a fashion design class. Very grateful for you.
Maybe 1 of these days I'll find the courage to try a pattern, been sewing for more than 4 decades but I'm a think it stitch it person, weird is me lol. Even when teaching a class , I make the example from my head, then I do the pattern pieces that will help people who have joined group, yup I work backwards. Your video is interesting
Thanks for your helpful tutorials! given your experience, do tech designers typically recieve the flat sketches from the designers and then imbed their sketch this into the tech pack?
Great video, Zoe! Hope to see a video on how to derive a Brand’s size chart. Does it make sense to be my own fit model if I am an L / XL? Thank you! 🙏🏻
It's hard to fit yourself. Only be your company's fit model if you have people who can do the fitting. Your fit model, whoever it is, should be the middle size of your offered size range. If you do XS-S-M-L-XL, you should chose a M size fit model, make your sample patterns in the M, otherwise you could have problems in grading.
is the dress construction mistake the strap placement? i figured it would be difficult for the wearer to easily put the garment on if it’s situated like that. what do you recommend? maybe a zip on the side? i may be wrong though! i’ve only begun my fashion journey now and am curious to learn different design foundations and elements 😊
Zoe - can you help me figure out how to do measure women, as a man, who knows nothing about fashion, but need to make really tailored , slim fit uniforms for medical use. some of this stuff can get super awkward, so what do you recommend to male designers that work alone?
The crossed straps on the back would make the dress hard to get into. Heh. Good video, Zoe! Did you do the mistake on purpose to see if viewers were paying attention? Maybe the illustration of the back needs gathers drawn on the circle skirt?
Hi Zoe I’m new to your channel and I absolutely love it! ❤️ Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom with us. I’m also a aspiring designer. Would you recommend the same books to someone like me who’s interest is in designing sports garments?
Hi Zoe! Thanks for all of your informative videos. I have a question about the tech pack measurements... would you need to do measurements for every size you want to produce? Or only the "base" size? Love your channel!! Thanks
You do the sample size first until you get the perfect fitting sample. And then you need to the measurements for all the other sizes too based off your sample size. This is called your grade rule.

Hi Zoe, thank you for this video! 😘 Say I group each part of my shirt e.g Collar, Pockets, Sleeves etc. Can I start the number system again? Have a good day x
Do not reuse numbers within the same garment. Go up to 3234 if you have to. You can start from 1 again in the next garment. #3 on one garment doesn't have be the same #3 on another garment.
The odd flaw is the zipper. While you still be able to put the dress on if you either step in or raise it up over your head it just a little bit easier if the zipper was on the side. Also, the zipper could be shorter because the circle skirt increases its circumference so greatly that the hips or shoulders can pass through it with a shorter zipper. And that would cut on costs.
I would probably uncross the straps and shorten them. I wouldn't shorten the zipper, so women will much bigger bottoms than my model could also wear the dress.
