A soon as I publish a video I usually remember something I meant to say. This time I forgot to mention I need to make a back screen to stop chips falling down the back of the workbench. I'll probably make that from the tin I took off the original workbench shelf. Also I will seal the inside of the drawers with a couple of coats of water based varnish. :)
One note about your welding, be careful how often you weld in shorts as the weld arc can be hot enough to actually give you sunburns with enough exposure.
Now you can use the mill to level the head of the vise you want to restore, it'd be an interesting follow up for both of them, either way excellent job on the bench!
Glad you enjoyed it! Sometimes when I do a project because it needs doing rather than trying to make a good video, I'm not sure how it will be received. :)
"It wasn't the most exciting project" - these practical shop improvement episodes are actually some of my favourites! I'm never going to build a wooden bladeless fan (still amazing to see you do it) but I can definitely see myself building a workbench, etc.
About restoring the vise. Dear Niel. I love all your vids. As long as you're in the shop and entertain us with your narration I could watch you sweep the floor and I would enjoy it.
I seem to be part of a bygone time when everything that could be repaired was repaired. A lot of the younger generation just wants to replace something old, even if it is still in good condition, with something new. I like to see you repurpose things. Both of my grandfathers helped in teaching me to fix something instead of sending it to the junk pile. My sons are still amazed at what I try to fix before getting a new one.
Your youtube name is appropriate - when did the design of kettles prevent replacing the element? My Dad did ours in the early 60's, but I've never been able to mend a kettle in my lifetime - always have to buy a new one, at ever shorter intervals.
You say it's not the most exciting project, but it is. At least it makes me wanna go out to get my work bench in better shape. And with a nice work bench and equipment you get more energy for mor "exciting" projects. So please continue with both fixing workshop equipment as well as cool stuff. Thanks!
"…Let me know if this is a video you would be interested in…" I would watch a video of you tying your shoelaces - so - Yes, a vise restauration done by you: INTERESTED! And on top of that: MILLING videos by Pask!!!! Can't wait to see your approach to this machine!
Yes Pask, show us a video of everything you find that needs to be restored! I have watched all of your clips and i have learned alot and also been inspired myself to build! You are awesome!!
In a workshop drawers are one of life’s simple pleasure, lol. I like people that can look at something that would otherwise be seen as rubbish or trash and see its hidden potential. What a really great transformation!
Very well done. I believe that the best shop things are made or remade in the shop. I wish I had half of your creativity for this. And yes, of course make a video of the vise restoration.
On the contrary Pask, I love seeing revitalized workbenches that were in poor condition transformed into what you have made! No one would ever know how it used to look! Thank you!
That’s the great thing about watching you work. I can sit here with my morning coffee and watch you work and when it is over, I feel like I’ve done something rewarding with my day. 😃
that angle iron drawer handle idea was GENIUS. ive never seen that before. also the hot glue trick! this is why i love this channel i learn 20 amazing new tricks every video. pask is a master craftsman
Was it an exciting project full of innovation? No. Was it still extremely satisfying to watch? YES! Love the result, it's no comparison to how it looked in the beginning :)
From the video photo it looked like the drawers were made from steel. Good job making them look like metal.I like videos like this that shows you can fix/alter existing equipment. Keep up the great work!
It doesn't have to be a "thrill-a-minute" video in order to be satisfying, Neil. Your steadfast approach to the work and conversational narration make each video a winner. Some of your videos are more entertaining than others (a huge python in the workshop?!), but your channel's baseline is head and shoulders above so many others!
I found this very enjoyable as i spent forty years operating milling machines, lathes, punch presses and well all the things you visualize in a machine shop. The machine can be a very big plus with proper tooling and training. Good job.
YES, please do the vice/vise thing. Good job. Good work. Good instruction ...always learn something.... A bit green watching you make stuff. Happy days. Thanks.
We need to get you to 1 million subscribers. I always enjoy the videos. The transformation of the old bench to something new was amazing. I don't think the video was dull at all. Good luck and keep them videos coming.
Greetings from Belorussii. I really like watching your channel, I tell everyone I know about you. We say "GOLDEN HANDS" to such masters. Thank you for your channel, very interesting.
Thank you for sharing! Not boring, at all. You make installing draws look so simple, too. Much to take away from this one and store in the bank for my own future builds. Cheers brother!
I never get tired of seeing your builds. That trick with the hot glue to hold the faceplates on the drawers is very slick. If I can ever learn how to build a drawer box that's square and true.... I'll have to remember give it a go!
It was a great project because you turned an old makeshift table into a professional looking piece of kit. That’s exactly the type of thing I want to see as well as your normal stuff which is always spot on. I’ve seen gutsfulls of vice videos and would like to see your take on it. I can imagine it would be utilitarian but sharp as a coffin tack. Everyone needs a mate like Luke. Between me and my mate we’ve moved everything under the sun for each other and have never yet failed to quote the chuckle brothers every time we pick something up.
Another very informative presentation. Thank you very much for recording and sharing these with those of us who aren't quite as skilled as you. Keep up the awesome work, and I look forward to your next video.
Yes yes yes. Oooooh. xDxDxD. If you could see the grin on my face right now. I was looking to have a chillout moment this afternoon, and this couldn't be better. Thank you Neil for sharing.
That's what is all about... take an old metal bench a create something so functional and nice out of it. Another grate video Neil, very well done and yes please lets see that vise restoration, I have a Record #5 that needs to be restore too... Thanks mate !!!
I would like to thank you for sharing your skills and thoughts and techniques with the world sir. I’m have a hard time right now but to be able to watch your work and the projects you do always helps to keep going giving me motivation and determination to get to where I would like to be. Thank you and please don’t stop.
Huge respect for a man who can disassemble 60% of something and then rebuild it. I know I'd have struggled to stop myself breaking down the whole thing to rebuild it
Wonderful job! Aside from your incredible talent in creating and building, I wonder if your viewers take for granted the amount of effort required to record and capture the build process: the positioning of cameras, the lighting and sound levels, focus and white balance-done for each step of the process. And then the post-production work in editing and narration. Many of your projects are quite complicated but your talent in capturing them and making the entire process a pleasure to view speaks volumes on talents beyond the build. 👍
Pack, It was interesting to me and I got some good tips from yours! I am very glad you put the extra support braces in! That is one sturdy and strong cabinet now!
I like the way you present and the balance between pure functionality on the one side and acceptable finish on the other. You make some of the best maker videos on YT
I'll be honest. I was calling that table a lost cause when you showed the how it was originally built. I'm glad to be proven wrong. What a great rebuild! 👍
Well, that’s that. I’m caught up. Watched every single video over the past couple weeks, several twice. Can’t wait for the next one! I’ve always built things, but watching your videos has changed my whole approach - for the better. I’m just “having a go” from now on. I always get hung up on the details rather than just execute the project and learn from mistakes or improve on the design. I can tell you from experience that that’s not the best way! Haha... Anyway, thanks for sharing your gifts/skills with the world. People like you make life better for others. 🤝👊
Another great project! The metal side of your shop is shaping up. Loved the welding table design so much I built a similar one. Very impressed with how strong it is. Thanks for the inspiration!
I was wondering about the inside of the drawers...
Great project and content as always. Thanks Neil!
One note about your welding, be careful how often you weld in shorts as the weld arc can be hot enough to actually give you sunburns with enough exposure.
Now you can use the mill to level the head of the vise you want to restore, it'd be an interesting follow up for both of them, either way excellent job on the bench!
Vise video please I got a hand me down vise with a REALLY sloppy screw and honestly I just don’t know enough about them to feel comfy just digging in.
Absolutely would like to see the vise restored to usability.
Me too. Great job mate!
Yep. Take a look at "My Mechanics" for some serious inspiration for reconditioning a vise.
Yes that is a great idea
Me too
Yes please
"...it wasn't the most exciting project..." YEAH OK. That looks amazing and was very motivating!
That was my thought. I love seeing shop improvement stuff.
I Couldn't say it better
It only makes sense in the context of his other uploads.
Glad you enjoyed it! Sometimes when I do a project because it needs doing rather than trying to make a good video, I'm not sure how it will be received. :)
@@PaskMakes You are an excellent videographer and shop infrastructure jobs are always worth watching.

Thanks Tyler - glad you enjoyed it! :)
Loved this style of video, makes me want to head down to the shed now and turn the two old heavy 12’ trestles into that metal work bench tonight.
I feel you here the wood working stuff is cool but these practical videos are more my thing.
“Let me know if this is something you’d like to see a video of.”
Pask, the answer is *always* a resounding “Yes please!”
with the amount of fake restoration channels out there it would be refreshing to see someone i trust fixing that vice up to real working order
I love the way you narrate these vids. Your voice and tone is just a pleasure listening to.
The builds are great but the narration does set the channel ahead of many other similar ones.
It's the way he finishes his sentences in an upward tone
@@YoussoufDJEZIRI yes!
Thanks very much Robert! :)
Harry Potter, narrated by Neil. 10/10 would listen
Seriously, Pask!? Of course I’d like to see a video of you restoring the vice. Wth kinda question is that?
I'd even go as far as saying I would be deeply disappointed not to see it
I've got a couple of ideas for making vices too! :)
@@PaskMakes Anything you capture in motion picture, pask, I will watch.

About restoring the vise.
Dear Niel. I love all your vids. As long as you're in the shop and entertain us with your narration I could watch you sweep the floor and I would enjoy it.
Very true!
Would absolutly watch that!
Thanks very much Boris - I'll have to add some clips of sweeping up in future! ;)
@@PaskMakes Maybe on fast forward with Yakety Sax playing ;)
I would love to see the vise restored.
I love how you make sure that most mundane things are stylistic, well-done, and elegant. And we absolutely want to see the vise restoration.
Thanks Sampath! :)
It's not necessarily about exciting project, rather about watching excellent workmanship :)
Thanks very much! :)
nicely put

Really enjoy rehabbing old, "just ok" pieces into more functional pieces especially with material you had lying around.
Love seeing stuff get refurbished instead of junked. It looks amazing now. Really enjoyed this one.
