I think these things are valuable to study because they represent ways to assert or reinforce your dominance. However, all of these are empty gestures that mean nothing without power behind them. Dominance is something that can be created using power (power being control over something other people want, material or otherwise). Power is of course generated by force or the threat of force. Dominance must then be the result of a complex social and downright primal equation where force, power, and dominance are variables on the left and obedience is the answer on the right.
So I was perhaps wrong in stating that these are symptoms of dominance. They are not. Dominance itself is a product of power. The result is the same. That without power these are useless. However, they would help a person utilize their power to create dominance.
That is true. All these figures like Sonny, Al Pacino, Marlon Brando etc were all Bosses.. They already had the respect. They could release a fart, and people would wait until they're finished. These are only displays of dominance, nothing to do with the breakdown of it. Try doing pregnant pauses or silent gestures among random people, they won't wait and talk straight over the person or in the opening. These figures already had that respect.

And some of the those arm slapping can easily be read as friendly indeed. However the vibe from the overall scene though is still Mo acting like the big man in the room.
Consider:
1. He's not there to greet Mike (letting him wait)
2. When he says if the chefs cooked well enough for him, he's treating him like a guest
3. When he says to his helpers to "throw chips to everyone in the room", that's rather offensive to a powerful man. Mike is a co-owner of the casino, he doesn't need Mo to hand out some freebies.
The Power Moves, right on. The way you phrased it in the video, however, sounded like a generalisation about shoulder slaps, and being a shoulder slapper myself (lol) I felt the need to defend this friendly gesture.

Dominant people talk so because they want to make sure people understand what they are saying so there is no confusion.
They talk slow because they know people won't interupt, the reason so many people talk fast is because they are scared of being cut off, usually from childhood when a parent just ignores you or something so you learn to speak quickly

Three things that show if a person is giving you their attention: Direction of their feet, direction of their hips and the front of their neck. If all three of these on the individual you're talking to are NOT pointing or facing toward you then they are not paying attention to you and/or they don't care about anything you're talking about.

They move like that and talk like that because the director told them to do so to draw attention to to certain aspects while dimming the surrounding scene just like a painting. so don't read to much into it.

The only way to be dominant is to be aware of what is coming and have patience to see it done, if it's not in way of your interest. Otherwise alter it or at least try to alter it with what you have.

Dominant or not you need to have a higher purpose for your life, and the interesting thing is those who submit themselves to higher ideals, and or God (whatever God means to you) become indomitable. This dominance hierarchy applies more to the people who are materialistic. Those who seek to be dominant for the sake of dominance over others are mislead, and usually their story will end in ruins, think the Biblical story of the evil pharaoh, or Goliath the giant. Aim to find truth and master yourself, improve your life and the lives of other men (and women), and as you give more you will receive more, you will soar high above the plains of competition and dominance hierarchies. And if there is any dominance in the world of men, it should be based on competence not on dictatorship.

Something else about turning your back to someone is that it puts you in a position of vulnerability. In Michael's case with Fredo, I think two things are going on.
For one, Michael is implicitly showing his strength because he has no fear of what Fredo might do as a result of being dismissed like this.
But also, Michael feels guilty. He knows that Fredo has a point. Fredo has a right to have expected more responsibility and power, based on his status in the family. And while Michael knows that Fredo is too dumb and weak, he also loves his brother and doesn't want to hurt him by saying so.
So he turns his back and allows his brother to berate him.

People trying to always appear dominant are useful fools easily manipulated by those that have their own goal they are committed too, focused on and motivated towards. When wanting to dominate is a desired goal or end in and of itself it indicates you are not dominant but a vulnerable fool, it indicates you are the inferior man. The superior man does not desire to dominate any situation, the superior man knows what he wants and uses wisdom to control himself to get it, using wisdom indicates he reaches his goals with the least effort. He most of the time quietly goes his own way towards his own goals with the least effort. Sometimes this means he operates covertly and lets others think they are dominant, often this means he does not seek the limelight and applause, but always this means he has his focus on the goals he wants, takes actions, collect feedback and learns and modifies behaviour and tries again until he reaches his goal
