Love the song it brings back memories for me when i was a teenage girl in the mid sixties. Thanks for sharing the video. R.I.P. Mike,Dennis and Rick your all truly missed by your fans including me.
I had this 45. Bought it because of the cool picture of them. Long hair (Even theirs) was so cool to me. I had never heard this song before I brought it home and played it. Great song. Rick Huxley's favorite DC5 song.
This performance was originally shortened to make up time lost when the backing track failed on the first tune Glad All Over. An honour to be asked once to appear on the Sullivan show these guys came back 15+ times. This classy three minute clip should tell you why.
This is how I remember the song and it sounds great, thanks for bringing it back to its full length. Yes, the words have a lot of meaning as you have said. Mike said that he wrote this song for all of our troops that were serving in that long ago war in Viet Nam. Thanks much. John C
I was under that impression too but after seeing DC's promo film which was banned by BBC for being on the edge of pornographic...we never saw much of that FIlM...I.believe it's still on my site.
@@KellysClassicswhat film had pornographic in it dc5 are an amazing band one of my favorite bands my favorite bands are The Rolling Stones and The Dave Clark 5 that’s it
Somehow I thought if I got a Vox Continental, at age 14, I would look and sound like Mike Smith. It set my parents back about $1,300. It didn't work. But I did get a lot attention for that really cool piece of equipment. RIP Mike.
Out of all their appearances on Ed Sullivan, there was one in particular where they sang COME HOME. They sing the chorus--I didn't think that it would be as bad as it's been. But now I'm coming home to give you a ring, The song pauses and you can hear a few girls screaming when it should be quiet and Mike, who usually is able to maintain his professionalism, suddenly loses it and he kinda goes limp like he wants to laugh then he straightens up and they finish the song. It was so funny . I wish I could find the video. Maybe they didn't save it. Does anyone remember seeing that?
Ed Sullivan Show June 20 1965, the show that had the infamous GAO backing track failure . From what I've read, Come Home started with the 2nd verse to make up for lost time.
Partial lip synch, partial live vocals...you can hear in the beginning Mike cueing Lenny "2nd verse", & watch neck muscles & listen to "double" harmonies, you'll see it's only partially lip synch
hundreds of hours of Beatles performing live , NONE on DC5 .....they lip synched every video performance I ever seen, and took it on step further......EVERYBODY in the band lip synched the lead vocals....very strange?......wonder what Mike thought of that?
The most underrated singer in rock history!
He was definitely there voice. Dave Clark said, mike was one of the top singers in rock n roll. Agreed..
amen the Best Rock Voice ever
The British made the 60’s even more fun. Still love the British 60’s sounds and I’m 71 years old. It will never get old to some .
RIP Mike Smith; the soul of the DC5.
Absolute, utter perfection. Arguably their best ballad, and one of their finest moments overall.
It was an honor serving this country. Thank you
Love these guys for 50 years, will play this song at my funeral!!
Mike is the best singer. And a living doll.So adorable.
In 1965 I was a senior in high school and this song was a great slow dance song.
I was in 6th grade this was the year my late oldest brother graduated from High School

This song show cases their superb writing talent.
I used to listen to these guys on the now defunct WQSR back when I was growing up. My parents raised me on DC5. Always loved their music.

Come home from album "Weekend in London'. I like DC5!
I was once told this song was written for soldiers returning home from Viet Nam.

If you guys love this group take a listen to The Easy Beats Friday On my Mind and think what The DC5 could have did with that.

What a great looking group of guys, love them.
LOUSY drummer, great singer ,great records.
You are so correct... DC was a shitty drummer and Mike Smith carried that band.
