Blake Midwinter is a pun for a poem turned into a carol called In The Bleak Midwinter. Btw., how much can you downsize an elf before they become too small for working? Huge props (😉) to LittleFlecks for being an absolutely perfect elf! I’m begging everyone to check out the description section of the song. If you have ever sat in a meeting which should have been an email, you’ll “appreciate” the jargon. It was so spot on I gagged a little.
Here we have another instance of 8× (a little under 80min for a little under 10min) Fun fact(if I recall their comment correctly): Stupes started work on this song only in October (and still managed to pull in multiple cameoes)
may i introduce you to GT live :3 theyve turned a 38 second clip into a three parter reaction series with each video being over 1 and a half hours. i wish i was joking.
That line about getting paid to keep Santa's face on the can is also a call-back to "Art of Darkness": "If they want to keep his face on the can, they can damn well pay for it!"
Hi Ian! I'll expand a bit on the Lapland thing with some festive facts. Lapland is as you say the most northern part of Finland, but also Sweden. We used to be the same country so the name stayed after we got split up. In parts of Europe, especially up north (including here in Sweden) Santa doesn't recide at the North Pole. He's from Lapland in Finland. We also used to have the Yule Goat bring the presents instead of Santa. Merry Factsmus!
Also a subtle one you missed in the end credits - Double gravy while *stock* lasts. Because gravy (at least in the UK) is made from (in this case) thickened turkey drippings and chicken stock.
A couple things you missed that I noticed: - Blake Midwinter (and Bake Midwinter in the outro) is Bleak Midwinter, which is a Christmas song from 1872. - Lapland's connection is even more direct than you thought, it's associated with being Santa's home, there's a tourist attraction called Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi.
This is the best penmanship I've seen in a long time. We finally get a Stupes Corporate holiday bop, I can't start to think of all the profits. I'm gen z and I might not sure if I even want to understand 'skibidi rizz'. Great reaction!
I think it's a law of slang formation that as soon as somebody representing a company uses that slang it becomes passé and now we need to make up a new word for it. Also, the music was not my cup of tea on this one, but the wordplay is top notch. Stupes was in fine form for this video.
Thanks for picking out the background texts, I love jokes like that but my vision isn't good enough to make them out half the time. Also fun seeing so many props here re-used from other videos, like stocking stuffers from Stupes. Wonder how many of those wrapped boxes conceal toy "coffins" from the Toybox set?
"In December, catch Influencers, going Viral selling kiddy shit" "Catch Influencers". Catch *Influenza*. Catching a flu, going *Viral*. I don't know if that was intentional, but I wouldn't put it past Stupes lmao
You are always such a delight to watch react to stupes music! I looove your laughter and your commentary, It's so fun to learn about the technical music things they do as someone who doesn't really know about it. Amazing video as always Ian! Hope your camera doesn't explode after this haha

8:42 actually, that's just a rumor that's been disproved. Coke did popularize that interpretation of Santa, but they didn't invent that look. The red suit was actually taken from a political artwork of Santa, which had tons of props that were metaphors for political propaganda. But Coke actually invented the idea of Santa's elves as far as I'm aware, with their early Sprite mascot Spriteboy. As far as I know Santa was depicted as working alone before then, but I could be wrong about that. There's a really good Food Theory about it you should check out.
1:02:04 you mentioned the commercial earlier but I'm surprised on the fact that you didn't comment on the fact that Stupendium literally included footage OF the AI Coke commercial in the song
The whole "skibidi rizz" bit doesn't mean a damn thing. That's the point. Like you said, the corporate suits are desperately trying to appeal to Gen-Z, so they're throwing in their slang... but they have no idea what any of the words actually mean, so they just spout off a bunch of gibberish.
Yeah, like part of the joke with current internet slang is that it’s basically nonsense. A lot of us recognize how ridiculous it’s gotten, but it’s so dumb is tends to loop back around to being funny (irony strikes again). But the corporations lack this awareness and context, which is why it’s 17x more painful to see. It’s so forced, and pretty much anyone familiar with the brain rot can instantly tell.
Heres a fun note the santa thats on the coke adds was created buy a guy in Australia that got like 7 million dollers but still gets around a country town looking like a homeless guy. (Note that could be wrong just something I heard he won a competition when coke did the redesign maybe 20 years ago now)
I absolutely love all of Stupes’ Christmas songs- and the fact that they’ve stuck with this streak (barring last year, though they were working on Amateur and Adequate Wordsmith, so I’ll give them a pass) is amazing! It’s also completely original- a rare, but welcome change! I love Stupes’ original stuff, and I’m so sad they don’t do as much. Seeing your reaction to this (and so close to the upload, too) was so exciting! Your insight is great, and I love your style of reactions- it also made me start listening to some of your music, too! Keep up the good work, Ian!!
First of all, I think Blake Midwinter is a play on "Midwinter Break" and, secondly...The Coca-Cola thing is actually a misconception. The modern appearance of Santa, including the color scheme, was codified by the Troy Sentinel's illustrations attached to the first publication of the poem "A Visit from St. Nicholas", bette known of course as "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" back in 1823, and, by the late 19th century, the idea of Santa as wearing red and white was already well-codified, long before Coke used him for ads in the 1930s. In fact, that was the reason they chose him, because he already matched their corporate color scheme. Also, not sure if you noticed, but that clip he showed as he's ranting about the commercialization in progress, is a recent Coca-Cola Christmas ad...That got in hot water for using Generative AI. OUCH. Also, I love the innate hilarity of the corporate drones complaining about costs when it's very clear they have magic, and could presumably just conjure shit on a whim. Also, I love the double-meaning of "Take a holiday...It's what i'm doing".
