This title is false because Joe dart is always in beast mode.
truth
His neck is, if nothing else.
LOL
Came here to comment the same thing...🤣
This is the video I’ve been waiting for 🙌🏼 now we just need him in the SBL studio teaching!
never heard of this dude until now. he is super clean & funky
Thanks for the breakdown! I love Vulfpeck and I always want to understand what they’re doing better, but I don’t have enough understanding of music or how to really play. I just know they just play incredibly clean and their music makes me happy. So happy that I actually like 99% of their songs, which I can’t really say for any other band or artist except the Beatles.
Hey, Scott! You should do 3 times Chris Wolstenholme went BEAST MODE! He has some great chops.
Dean Town in Dublin.. By far the best version!
Maybe you could do a video on bassist Yoshihiro Naruse, bassist for Casiopea!
How much do i have to practice before i start heavy breathing like you Scott?
Great stuff, Scott. I was lucky enough to be at Vulfpeck's show at the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels (September 2017), and saw this amazing display of bass playing live! ruclips.net/video/dDL5k9LpZ9w/видео.html This ranks as one of Joe's finest moments, I think...
I agree with you 100%! I wasnt there but i watch it on here all the time
FUN FACT: Dean Town was actually written by Woody Goss, their keyboard player. Of course, he wrote it for Joe to play as a bass feature.
Cool 👍
Fun fact , Dean town is a reference to Teen town from Jaco pastorious and weather report. It's full of licks from Jaco . Mindblowing 🤯
@@miketheud1010 And Woody (I think) used to call Joe "Dean".
Woody is a fantastic composer
Would've been a bit tough to do it on keys without the help of some serious fast-twitch finger fibres
Joe Dart always hits the bullseye. How often do you get the audience to sing the bassline?
And madison square garden no less. Magical Moment.
John Deacon with "another one bites the dust" . I agree that "Dean town" is on another level.
Badabadabadadumdum bow bow boudadeeeeeedappadeepaa
Robert trujillo playing orion?
Every time they tap their feet. Disco and Motown have been doing it the whole time.
Everyone who is saying Joe Dart is nothing special should be watching tennis or something. It's not a sport and he is able to play very funky lines that speak to classic funk with great feel that makes audiences sing his baselines. And as for people saying Vulf are this and that, just stop. They're clearly great musicians and great people and give a lot of joy to the world
Jack Alterman ... Why does that bother you?
Jack Alterman I’m literally a part of THE Facebook group. That’s not true. A ton of people in the group love and appreciate 70s funk where Vulfpeck pulls from
Why do you care, and why should anyone care about you caring? Move on or argue with those people directly.
Amen
I'm so tired of this culture of whining about one or two negative comments
Fun fact: Joe was 19 in Beastly
Thanks. Now I feel like shit knowing I'm 23 and not even close to his skill
And playing a $200 bass
@@GabrielAmorim-bw5dh Well, I'm 28 lol
John Russell YES (I was in shock when I realised he was playing a Squier like wtf)
@John Russell Vulfpeck are the perfect example of “you don’t need amazing equipment to make a great song”
Bass Faces. Pigeon necks and a whole bunch of funkiness!
I hate seeing the frowniechickeneck. Can we be funky without frowning?
False.
Joe's neck is merely a concept.
This way or no way
There was only one time Joe went full beast mode: from the beginning of times until the end of time.
His pregnant mother: "Oh he's kicking!" (feels a rhythm and immediately starts bobbing her head)
@@BreathEmpowerment the funk forced her to bob
Also before time and after time
"That Chris guy..." (best mandolin player in the world) -LOL
Lol, for real haha
It's wild to think that John Patitucci was in the audience when they played Dean Town with Chris Thile
No way, that freaking awesome
Sahil Makhijani who? forgive the ignorance
@@lukesavage1019 a decent bass player, who played with another relatively decent piano player, Chick Corea.
@@andreidinu7316 ahahahah
Not at all, honestly. I realize that we live in an attention economy and you want to appear clever.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who nose exhales really loudly while playing bass
Is Dean Town kind of like Zeppelin's Black Dog in that the guitarist is possibly best known for playing a riff written by the keyboardist?
I've literally never clicked on a video so fast
The original version of "Daddy, He Got a Tesla" is my absolute favorite Joe Dart bass performance, he was truly on rare form on that song (also Sky Mall)
Joe is one of the best bassists of his generation
I think linder is the true beast of his generation 🤔
Undoubtedly!
Charles Berthoud is undoubtedly the best of this generation, maybe all time
Davie504 can play bass on a violin
He’s the best player in his age bracket
As a mediocre bassist it’s so nice to hear you not breathing normally whiles playing these riffs!
Scott: "I don't know this..."
30s later: "Let me show you how to play it!"
Nice work...
J Bruce can you play it?
@J Bruce Who's a special bass player?
@@lukeappleby5292 would that matter if he is able or not to play it? I mean, is like denying a person opinion, knowledge and criticism on a solo that he liked because he is not able to play it
@J Bruce and that's why he's there funkin out of his pants, and you are watching this vid from your home ;)
J Bruce spoken by a guy who is probably neither good nor special. Grow up dude
Joe's solo on Wait for the Moment in their Madison Square Garden concert. That's it, that's the comment.
Agreed
Agreed
Me with my bass watching and playing with
Scott and his bass watching and playing with
Joe Dart and his bass.
Thanks Joe.
Chris Thile is an amazing musician. Worth investigating if you don't know him.
I was just going to post this .. found him from the Vulf video shown here and WOW!! Big fan now
Agreed!
My teacher went to school with him
I LOVED Nickel Creek as a kid.
I LOVED Vulfpeck from the first video I watched.
Seeing those two worlds collide brings me so much joy.
npr Tiny Desk from 2011 has Chris Thile with Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer and Stuart Duncan - the music is rather grassroots sounding (a style I would not listen to that much) but it grooves and the performers have such a good time that they could be playing absolutely anything and it would sound fantastic. Great stuff.
Chris ‘Theel-e’, like theeley. Probably the world’s best living mandolin player. Learn him, love him, live him. Keep working those ghost notes, that’s a BIG part of Joe’s magic. Well, that and the Vulfcompressor...
i get this after watching "It gets funkier".
Scott I’m happy that you found one of the most amazing bass men these days in the meanwhile and thank you very much for showing some insights into Joe‘s playing technique 😎🙏
Jack Alterman it’s very simple: tell me your current active favorites, then I can answer your comment ... 😇
Joe dart on the joe dart music man bass
I purchased a stingray because of Joe Dart. It’s my 4th bass. Wasn’t necessary to get but oh well!
Because of Joe Dart, it was necessary!
A Stingray isn't "necessary".. However, whenever you get one you realise that it was absolutely worth it. I miss playing mine that's now long gone though😪, might need to get another 😉
Btw, Joe has never played a Stingray. All the MM on Vulf videos are Sterlings
8DenverBass Pretty sure every Sterling is a StingRay. I can’t seem to find one that isn't.
@@nim.448 Sterlings aren't quite a StingRay. There are some differences but no time to elaborate.
Chris Thile is a beast! Check out Punch Brothers or any of his other stuff. He is at the top of the modern mandolin world.
And an incredibly genius composer
The goat rodeo sessions is mind blowing. That double bass solo in helping hands whew...
Plays great JSB in a trio with Yo Yo Ma & Edgar Meyer too. A fine musician to be sure.
Can't believe nobody mentions Nickel Creek lol
I think Joe gets the 4 bar groove solo idea from Willie Weeks' solo on Donny Hathaway's Voices Inside (live), It's probably my favourite bass solo and a lovely nod to one of the greats by Dart.
Reminds me of this guy
ruclips.net/video/fpu0XDDh3zA/видео.html
What was the most amazing thing about this video was how Scott worked out the dean town line in 30 seconds. My jaw hit the floor.
The line Joe was playing near the end of your video that you were trying to nail is from the band Parliament's, "Dr. Funkenstien" album and the track is "Do Dat Stuff".
5:08 that’s me yelling (:
Really?
If you want a master class in crowd control in a solo please go look up “joe dart beastly solo” it’s three minutes of bass purity
13:10 "slap the like button"
davie504 entered the channel
SLAP
OMG, Epic
slapp 🤣
Those 3 times Joe Dart drank BREAST MILK.
Wait a minute Scott

@@km1842 'Scott is a mediocre bass player at best'? 😂. that's a bit rich coming from someone who's own youtube channel has no content lol. Scott may not be the best bassist around but he's a great bassist, respected by so many musicians worldwide. But even better than that he's a fantastic educator and obviously one hell of an entrepreneur! Jealous much?
This was great. You look like 3 of my musical friends but all combined in one Shell.
Your video is very inspiring. 🎸🍻
"slap the like button" where have I heard that before?
Shhhh 🤫
What’s up, SLAPPER?
*Davie504 intensifies*
1:35 into Cory Wong still blows me away, that descending riff into the double slide up to A? I think it is..
One of the most ferocious bass fills ever!
"That's why dad named you Joe Dart instead o' Nunamaker!"
Hes the ace of bass.
Joe captures the Jaco funkiness perfectly.
Joe's outfit in the second video is magnificent.
Edit: The other's just walked in and they're all magnificent.
That was Wulfpeck on Chris Thile's "Live From Here" on National Public Radio, which as the successor to "Prairie Home Companion". Chris is phenomenal. And that show was amazing. I had only heard of Wulfpeck peripherally and was blown away.
My fave solo of his is a video Vulfpeck actually posted called ‘BEASTLY SOLO III’. Just insane!!
Wish the fretboard accelerator was part of my SBL lifetime membership, cuz I don't have $200 to drop on it.
I really think it should’ve been included for us. I literally just shelled out the money for the membership and now I don’t have a budget for the course.
Yea these accelerator courses have been popping up a lot recently. I think they should be available for free to members or with a substantial discount. Even with a $50 discount it's still too much for me to shell out, especially these days
Thomas Hunt Jr I completely agree. I guess it’s just a bit disappointing. We don’t even get the time to save money to try later, considering there’s a cut off date.
The riff on 7:07 sounds like "hung up your hung ups" by Herbie Hancock
Skymall live on RUclips posted by Ryan Conley is another really great video where joe dart goes completely beast mode. Worth checking out for all you bass lovers and triplet lovers!
Those patterns would look cool AF on a t-shirt.
Yes, the guy can play, and he recycles pieces of other people's stuff - in that last bit he plays stuff straight out of Brian Eno's Another Green World's "Sky Saw" and "Over Fire Island"(Percy Jones on bass), literal Jaco bits from solos. It is fun to hear older music come back for new audiences who can refer back to the originals.
Also how that "live from here" performance slows down about 40 clicks and STILL sounds good.
Dean Town live is awesome. Dude was going full on bass player chicken neck in this one. Haha. And linguine from Ratatouille on guitar. Brilliant! 😂😂
00:11 the WONG and only JOE DART
Joe Dart is the bassist who inspired me a lot to keep improving my skills. Luv ya Joe.
Randomly stumbled across this video and curious as to why you are wearing a glove?
i think he has a condition on his hand that makes it feel bad to play with naked fingers
Anyone know the song that plays during the intro to this vid? Please help! Thanks!
That's just Scott noodling dude! 🍜🍜
Joe Dart is the unspoken leader of that band.
Woah what are the odds, my two favorite things, Vulfpeck AND The Last of Us? What is this a crossover episode? 👀
Legend has it that Joe's secret to beast mode is that he's always funky (as his glasses materialize on his face & pigeon necks onto stage)
I was at this recording of Live From Here! Even more amazing live, and Maggie Rogers was a great addition to all of this.
I wish I could afford any of these courses alas a 5 year old and every gig cancelled pretty much until 2021 puts me permanently out of the class for the foreseeable
Since your add is my face on every single
Video I watch I’ve decided to unsubscribe and hope it’ll stop!
like you and the channel, but JESUS!!! you constant adds on google will drive me away!!!!!!!! :-((((enough alredy!!!!!
I'm not actual bass player, but it's lot of fun starting every day by playing It Get's Funkier bass line (by Vulfpeck)
it's so tricky and complex and fun.
Thank You, thank Joe Dart ^)
Why does he wear a glove?
Best guess is he's also a hand model haha. As a person though that works construction and deals with many splinters and/or swollen fingers amongst many other things that try their best to stop me from getting funky so it could act as a giant bandage for soft fingers idk I had same question first time I saw him play so I had to share my idea when I seen someone mention it
That really tall guy playing the mandolin or whatever it is in dean town is hilarious to watch
Joe’s performance at red rocks sounds a lot like Jaco Pastorius when he came out to do his bass solo looping performance when he played with Joni Mitchell. I wonder if that may be a nod to a hero or what but anyway discovering Joe Dart has been a lot of fun
Do mark king next!
Personally I think there should be a discount or payment plan option for SBL members. Just sayin'
Joe Dart is simply a monster on bass, his lines are always incredible but groovy.
P.S I did a cover of Dean Town (ruclips.net/video/AGHGF81-l_s/видео.html) a while back, it was one of the grooviest but hard to learn songs i have learnt so far
Honestly at this point I’m just sacred of Joe Dart
Man, I was part of the video trying to figure out what kind of depigmentation this dude had on his left hand. Until I realized it was a glove.
"this Chris Thile guy..." do yourself a favor and deep dive into Chris's music. He's otherworldly and he's been insane since he was like 12
Love me some Joe Dart! The B&W striped shirt is key Scott, good nod. BTW bass heads, that "Chris Theeeele guy" is a true virtuoso. He is arguably one the greatest and most talented musicians alive on any instrument today. They just don't hand out Mc Arthur genius grants to everyone.
Sorry about the question, but why do you use a glove?
I've been scouring the comments to find out this exact thing. First time I've seen someone wear a glove like this
I respect Joe D as a technician. But Vulfpeck IMO is just a horrible band because every note, nuance, and idea is derivative of every great band of the genre without a scintilla of originality from themselves. It is amazing how unoriginal they are. The audience must be from more horrible bands with the same problem Dave Matthews, Gogol Bordello, Rammstein etc.
No shade at all . I'm just a retired saxophone player. Coltrane, maceo, bird are my jams. What Joe is doing are called rolls and crans. He is expert. The key is to use very fast notes to accentuate your main line . Play back of the beat. Let the percussion lead. And that's it. Bob's yer uncle :)
Joe Dart's playing reminds me of "UpliftMofoPartyPlan" era Flea. I wonder if he's a fan of Flea's?
I hear 80’s and early 90’s RHCP in Cory Wong and Joe Darts playing.
Yes, he actually met him when he was Young 🙂
Well. i just crawled out from under my rock and now cannot get enough of Joe Dart. What a nasty, nasty, man. Also must say I love his use of my favorite "bucket-o-shit" lick. What a god.
You forgot the 4th time Joe went BEAST MODE: ruclips.net/video/3yNT6_sj4ds/видео.html
It's awesome to see you work things out. Makes me feel like I suck less when I see someone as good as you work through something!
Joe Dart is undoubtedly a beast. But there are several others not featured thus far that I’d like to see included: Adam Nitti, Christian McBriide, Brian Bromberg...
Could you please cover the scat singing with bass playing, could be helpful and interesting, I don’t think there’s anything out there that discusses this. Either way thanks , great videos
If you know Joe Dart but don’t know Jaco Pastorius or Weather Report, you aren’t getting the whole picture. Go spend some time.
Dude. Don't put your ad at the beginning of the video. Put it in the middle or at the end. After you've shown people there's a reason to not just click away immediately (possibly after rolling their eyes and writing a comment about how that's annoying).
I’m glad to see even a killer pro like you takes a few moments on the fretboard to figure out baselines like this. Thanks for keeping it real.
The only problem m8 is that u actually play better. Not arse licking Mean it. God bless thanks for the music and knowledge u spread
Dude, I love your explanations almost as much as joe dart and his beastly bass lines hahaha
Much love from Argentina
I love joe but he's got some crazy flying pinkies. Imagine what he could do if he used those lonely fingers
Okay Scott we know you just released players path I don't need it as an ad for every video i watch on youtube
Do marcus miller tooo
The dude on keys in beastly deadass looks like yung gravy
Dude, you have a Pulsera Balance !? I remember the infomercials in the 90s
Eclipsed any previous Dean Town release right here: ruclips.net/video/rhxQoDlt2AU/видео.html
Yeah, really cool and all...But can we talk about how the fashion is so on point, it's actually ridiculous?!
Hey Scott, seems like playing Joe's groove make you breath way louder than usual 😂
