Imagine Dr. Johnny Fever being played by someone other than Howard Hesseman. That could have been a reality had David Cassidy, the heartthrob of The Partridge Family fame, not turned down the role. This twist led Hesseman to land the role of the iconic Dr. Johnny Fever. The show didn't just create laughter; it helped launch musical careers. Bands like U2, Toto, The Knack, The Cars, and Devo owe some of their initial success to WKRP, with Blondie being a standout. Their song, "Heart of Glass," featured on the show, propelled the band to immense popularity, earning them gold status.
Moreover, the show faced a music rights crisis that threatened to remove the much-loved tunes that fans had come to associate with the show.
It was only in 2014 that Shout! Factory managed to secure the rights, ensuring fans could once again enjoy episodes enriched with iconic artists' music. The realism of the show was boosted by the generous donation of memorabilia from real DJs, while an inside joke gave birth to a suit made from Volkswagen seat covers. The inspiration for the show came from an unusual muse, a song by Harry Chapin, and creator Hugh Wilson showed his creative genius by crafting both the catchy intro and the gibberish-laden outro theme song. Prepare for a fascinating journey behind the scenes of this iconic sitcom with far-reaching influence and carefully concealed secrets. Buckle up and get ready to see "WKRP in Cincinnati" in a whole new light.

I thought Loni Anderson as Jennifer was the receptionist.
She was…
You're right. Bailey was played by Jan Smithers. She wasn't the receptionist.
You are correct Bailey assisted Andy Travis program directing has gal Friday
Caught that right away. This guy mad at Loni Anderson? The show where she gets Herb to wear a real suit and it loses him a client. And Herb flirting with her because he knows he'll never have her. Jennifer calls his bluff and they come to an understanding. Les Nesman, always had bandaids on his fingers.
As noted below, Jennifer was the receptionist not Bailey
The Who concert episode was one of the most heartfelt and touching episodes of a real life event portrayed on WKRP.
Amen to that
I remember seeing that episode when I watched WKRP in reruns, It was a really good episode, Based on something that really happened, Very sad.☹️
The only good thing was a lot of places changed how they did seating for events like concerts and other types of shows many states banned that type of seating soon after that
@@richardharepax123 A TV show that made changes in the way society operates, can a higher compliment be made for a show?
@@barryk1701 no but the show was also very funny. The other thing that they took on was the use of the drug named speed back in the day when I grew up with the show it's the one where Jonny refused to do advertising for a ad
Plus the turkey/helicopter thanksgiving scene lives in history as one of the most hilarious ever....im gonna have to go watch it now. Thanks.
Loni Anderson did not play Billy quarters. She played Jennifer the receptionist. How can you make such a grievous error?
It's Bailey not Billy.
😂I still have the opening song in my head after all these years
I am still working on the air in Cincinnati Cincinnati wkrp...
Fun stuff, thank you for bringing back memories. Which episode is the most memorable for you?
Baily Quarters wasn't the receptionist. She was in charge of billing and station traffic. The receptionist was Jennifer Marlowe.
A few other pieces of Trivia from a Native Cincinnatian. The Phelps building doesn't exist. It was the former Cincinnati Enquire building that was the zoom in shot in the opening. The show also dealt with the unfortunate incident of the WHO concert at what was then ,Riverfront Collisuem. In every shot, you will see several names of Cincinnati Highschools and universities on banners on the wall.
With a glaring mistake (perhaps intentional to generate comments) about the characters Jennifer and Bailey, you could say Facts Verse is not versed in the facts.
Yeah,
Johnny fever was awesome
We absolutely agree! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. Be safe and enjoy the rest of your evening!
I loved WKRP n Cincinnati it was a great show.
We're happy to know that you love the show. In your opinion, what is its best episode?
Oh,
Yeah I remember the episode about the turkey drop from a helicopter,
That one was just too much
I thought turkeys could fly? 😢
One of the best.
@@castleanthrax1833 no ,
They just flew right out of the helicopter door directly onto the tops of all of those peoples cars,
Just too much,
It was definitely a good episode to watch,
Take Care buddy and please remember to keep your hands clean and washed up at all times too
@@interwebtubes Yeah, I know they can't fly. That was the guys reaction (I can't remember his name) to the "disaster."
Less Nessman. News guy. Reporter.
You can tell when a commenter has no experience with what they are commenting on.
Bailey was the sexiest female, way beyond Loni Anderson ❤
Well said, we strongly concur! Thank you for watching our content and for sharing your thoughts. What other types of video would you like to see?
@@FactsVerse I've always been fascinated by Loryn Locklyn, but the internet doesn't seem to have much about her life, maybe something you guys could work on? Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
One of my favorites as a kid 😊
We're happy to know that you love the show. In your opinion, what is its best episode?
Jennifer Marlow was the receptionist not Baily Quarters...
I like what WEBN did in donating things that were only seen in Cincinnati. La Rosa's pizza, Skyline Chili,
Hudepohl beer, and a mention of Norwood.
As a long time radio broadcaster I can say it drove us nuts they never used headphones.
Other than that, the show was dead on in so many ways. From the hot receptionist to the rich mom that bought her son, the clueless station manager, a radio station just so he would have a job. I have personally witnessed this along with the slimey sales guy to the nerdy and territorial news guy. It was so accurate. Made me realize I was the Johnny Fever character. I was ok with that.
Bailey was less nessman's assistant in training to be come a news reporter. Jennifer was the receptionist.
Thanks for the video and it had good drama
You're very much welcome! We're glad to know that you love our video. If we may ask, what other types of video would you like to see on Facts Verse?
The bands who were so thrilled to hear their songs on the show by licensing it for reruns
Bailey Quarters was not the receptionist
i worked at a TV station in the early '60's. The personalities portrayed on WKRP seem all to familiar to me......!!
The KRP had a certain connotation. It was an inside joke. Howard Hessman said nobody picked up on it. It's one of the first thing my gutter mind picked up on.
Thanks for watching! We're glad to know that you love our video. What other types of video would you like to see on Facts Verse?
Should get your facts straight. Jennifer was the receptionist. Only a minute in.
This came out a few months after the Summer film FM.
The best band on the show was Scum Of The Earth (played by the band Detective).
Oh yea… BOOGER!
I remember watching WKRP in Cincinnati when I was a kid. I remember
that Jennifer was the receptionist. who was Bailey? don't remember that
character on the show. Venus Flytrap was one of my favorite characters
on the show!!
One of our favorites too, you've got taste! What other types of video would you like to see?
Bailey, played by jan smithers was co news writer with les nessman .
At first Bailey was not defined as to her job on the show. Later on the show had her as news reporter less nesmen's assistant in training. She was the lady with the glasses who's desk was behind herb and next to the door. Hope this.
What no mention of Loni Anderson?
She's mentioned as being the "mirror image" of the wife of the creator (I think?).
Has anyone seen his wife, and if so, is Loni actually her mirror image? 😮
Another video says his wife was the inspiration for Bailey, not Jennifer.
The funniest part was when they threw live turkeys out of the traffic helicopter on Thanksgiving Day
thank you for using the word "myriad" correctly
You're very much welcome! We're glad to know that you love our video. If we may ask, what other types of video would you like to see on Facts Verse?
Fasts verse screwed up again 00:43 Bailey quarters was not receptionist…. At first she was traffic( log for on air to insert ads) and public service director ( take in the ( don’t drink and drive freebie PSA). Later became news reporter and anchored some news casts 06:30 line was. Volkswagen with out seat covers NOT without seats
And at 00:55 they show Jennifer the real receptionist and imply that is bailey
Also trivia station engineer Bucky dorestrein - was bill dial the creator and writer on wkrp
@@KE5ZZO that's a fun fact!
> Bill Dial, a writer and story editor, is credited with writing the episode. Dial also makes two appearances during the series' run as station engineer Bucky Dornster but does not appear in “Turkeys Away.”
Too many of the clips were from "The New WKRP In Cincinnati" with never any mention of that show.
Thank you for that info. I was puzzled that so many clips were from episodes that I haven't seem. I thought that I'd seen all the WKRP episodes at least once.
I always thought the FM movie was the inspiration for WKRP.
Bailey was very pretty!
We absolutely agree! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. What is your most memorable WKRP episode?
You need to do better research. Bailey Quarters was not the receptionist. That was Loni Anderson as Jennifer Marlo who eas tge Receptionist
Two words; "Phone Cops!"
I never realized what WKRP spelled until the episode where Les was dressed as a carp!
That was Herb dressed as a carp not Les.
Jennifer was the receptionist, not Bailey. This is NOT a good start. What else will be wrong? Is this worth my time watching, as I was and still am a huge WKRP fan?
I dont think u2 owes their popularaty to wkrp.
It's been years. All I remember was Loni was Gorgeous. So sexy ❤️🥰🔥💯. She was definitely a looker 😊😊
Beautiful words, thank you for your message for Loni. Which episode is the most memorable for you?
Loni Anderson played Jennifer Marlowe not Bailey
Jan Smithers played Bailey, Not Jennifer.
👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Thanks for watching! We're glad to know that you love our video. If we may ask, what other types of video would you like to see on Facts Verse?
I thought turkeys could fly
Best episode ever!
You are talking about Jennifer NOT Bailey!!!!
Beautiful words, thank you for your message for Loni. Which episode is the most memorable for you?
David Cassidy as Dr Johnny Fever? Are you kidding me? What a bad piece of casting that would have been.
I'm sure that the character would have been quite different. I'll bet that Howard Hesseman had a lot to do with developing the Johnny Fever character the way he turned out.
Its Hesseman not Houseman
❤😂🎉😢😮😅😊
Got the facts wrong in the first minute, confusing Bailey with Jennifer. Makes me wonder how much of the other "facts" in this channel's content are wrong too.
Another thing they got wrong was that Venus always had "a lady on his arm". They talked about him expecting "company" when he was on air on his night show, but I don't recall them showing any of his dates.
Add to the totally amateurish mistake of mixing Jan Smithers up with Loni Anderson, why on Earth were you using clips of the New WKRP in Cincinnati? Not a very well thought out video by Facts Verse.
That Lonnie is a dude?
Absolute, 5th-grade tripe.
Thoroughly predictable and asinine. 'Only thing less monotonous would be a FCC, wailing test pattern.
I remember seeing this as one of many shows wholly reliant on inane one-liners, juvenile sexual innuendo, and, worst of all, a ubiquitous laugh track, trying hard to 'COMPENSATE' for the childish humor.
sorry... this is about WKRP in Cincinatti, not Full House. There was no laugh track
@@Maggooster Big deal, I reiterate. A juvenile and asinine show!
David Cassidy sucked....Thank God for Howard....
