The character of Dr. Johnny Fever was a stroke of genius, and Howard Hesseman made him a legend. Johnny was my favorite DJ, real or fictional. Thank you for the laughs, Mr. Hesseman and R.I.P.
If the end credits song has captions for those mysterious lyrics, then we've got a deal! :D This will always be one of my all-time favorite shows...and Dr. Johnny Fever is the reason why!

We had a popular DJ here in Dallas, Russ Martin. He was about that same age, he'd grown up here and had been in Dallas radio since the early 80s.. Sadly he passed away a year ago. He always said this TV show and particularly Dr. Johnny Fever were what inspired him to get into the business while he was a teen.
Oh, Howard. I miss you so much. Dr. Johnny Fever was always my favourite on WKRP. You made me laugh myself silly! You were the best. Keep spinning those records in heaven.

Yes, yes we do, but we all have to leave one day. Thank you, Howard, for all the good times. You will be missed..... and remembered in as many online videos as we can enjoy!
I just can't imagine anyone else as Dr. Johnny Fever. It's the role that Howard Hessman was born to play, and he was amazing. RIP, Howard. Ya done good.
God rest your soul, Good Doctor. You are and will be missed. A little aside: On an episode of DRAGNET, Howard Hesseman appeared as an strung- out hippie, but, was using a different name(started with Don). Also, he had a bit part in the Mel Brooks movie SILENT MOVIE. 🌞🌞🌞😎😎😎✌✌✌✌
I don’t know which one was first: the first time I saw this show or the first time I heard Van Halen I but they were right about the same time and changed my life forever. Loved both my whole life and really miss the world as it was back then which was WAY more simple man, not as complex. We used to buy vinyl albums at the record store and listen to the whole thing all the way through, that’s where you find those gems, especially on the second side: VH I Atomic Punk and On Fire, Stones Tatoo You, Little T & A and Slave. Don’t think Howard was acting that much because he knew that about listening to music, I will dearly miss him for his impact on my life.
I thought it was funny that the word “Booger” got him fired from his LA station and when he first guest appeared on that ‘70s show as the station manager his DJ was Curtis Armstrong who is best known for his character Dudley (Booger) Dawson in the Revenge of the Nerds movies.
Seeing this show as a kid and listening to Dr Johnny Fever and Venus Flytrap inspired me to work in radio and I am so glad I had that opportunity before FM got turned into the bleak wasteland it is today. Booger!!!!
Back when TV and music was still somewhat good and really enjoyable not reality or obnoxious and you might only have had a few channels and you had to get up to change channels but you didn't have to pay some corporation for the right to watch it...
Howard Hesseman was born to play Johnny fever. I never cared for him in any of the other roles I saw him play, but damn I was Johnny fever he was spot on.
Those were the days of REAL RADIO! I remember cuing the albums too!! True to form of DJs, long songs meant lunch or bathroom (hehehe) or getting production done for spots.
In the wake of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake I volunteered with a private group driving a truck from Tokyo to Fukushima with supplies for the people displaced from their homes. Started out with essentials such as food and water but as time went on and the government finally stepped up, what we carried began to change. When we gave out toy chocolate fountains without batteries to people who had basically lost everything I realized that group had outlived their purpose.
I didn't know that he passed away, I used love WKRP and specially him. I was shocked to find out that Howard Hesseman had a relationship with Janis Joplin that lasted for years and that she was heartbroken when they decided to break up for the third time, which led to her death.

But thank you for leaving us a legacy of humor, that we can draw on, when needed most
Howard Hesseman was great in the role of Dr. Johnny Fever, but don't forget about his role as Charlie Moore, in "Head Of The Class"!!
When my granddaughter was around 4 @ Christmas in the mall, we met a really cool Santa who was channeling Dr. Johnny Fever.
One of the greatest character on a sitcom Ever!
he was so great in that role!
One of my favorite actors of all time...too funny on this show, so sincere and wonderful on Head Of The Class...great great actor
