You'd be surprised. College students are already paying exorbitant prices for room and board, not to mention tuition. As in $20,000 plus. Even things like the meal plans are hilariously overpriced, like charging $50 a day to use the cafeteria. Students pay these high prices without caring about it for two reason. 1) Your parents are paying for your college, so it doesn't matter. Tell them the laptop is for school and they just assume its needed. 2) It's all student debt, and the prices stop mattering after a point. It's all just a vague "student debt" and if its $67,000 or $66,000 is meaningless to students. Getting a better laptop is something that you feel the benefit from everyday, whereas your student debt is just a nebulous cloud that you have to pay off "sometime far in the future". I'm not advocating for students to waste their money, I'm just sharing what students are ALREADY doing, coming from someone who has been there and done that, and as have many of my peers. It's stupid, but a LOT of students spend $3000+ on a laptop even when a chromebook would do them better for school.
it can come with a i-9 11900k desktop 3080 16GB of vddr6 up to 128GB of ram and upto 32TB of storage depending on who you go through to get it. and now it needs two 280 watt power cables XD
The hilarious thing is this would actually be a good back to school laptop for me Or well, back to university, since I'm doing a degree in games development
@mark m Good for you. There are a few things you miss out - to simplify - 1) Networking (In most cases it's not what you know, it's who know), 2) some degrees offer work placements for a year which is often paid - which can result in a guaranteed job afterwards. 3)References for future projects and jobs. 4)meeting like minded individuals with whom you could probably start up some indie projects and so on.
@@unamistone1906 Indie development is often a luck of the draw, and being a freelancer requires a set of skills that many people dont have. If you get a job with a game company, you can at least know you'll get a salary at the end of the day (though crunch is a major issue) With a degree, you're much more likely to get that job in the first place. You don't just get skills in your field out of a college experience, too.

Eh, you can get used to the weight if necessary. However, it's very unnecessary. This is the kind of compromise a gamer makes rather than having a lower powered laptop and a higher powered desktop. Obviously it's pretty situational.
@@earthtaurus5515 why did you feel like linking the definition of weight? Did you think I was thinking of something else? My laptop is 3.5 kg and I more or less got used to it... although I only lugged it around enough for that during one semester. IDK about these laptops though.

Ludicrous It isn’t a battery life issue only, 4K on a 13” or 15” screen is ACTUALLY overkill, you can’t for all intents and purposes really get an improvement over 1080p on such a small display. Rather than over stressing the GPU and battery for this marketing term to be slapped onto the laptop, just use a 1080p or 1440p screen and save on battery, price, heating, performance hit, and many more reasons.
1440p maybe would have a use for 17 inch laptops, but unless you sit like 40 cm away from your 15-13 inch screen 1080p is fine, kinda sad how there are these retardedly high resolutions for a small laptop.

@Acrist That's not always possible and you can also be violently mugged instead of just robbed. Furthermore, constantly transporting an expensive laptop around slowly destroys it. For example, in a backpack or carrying case, screen flex can cause your 4k amoled screen to rub against the keyboard (ouch).

I bought a Lenovo legion y-540 with a 6 core Intel i7-9750, 16gb of ram, an Nvidia 1660Ti graphics card, and a 256GB SSD for $900. I did a lot of research before buying this laptop and It's still one of the best budget gaming laptops you can buy. At this point, you might as well just invest in a desktop, because who is anyone trying to convince that this thing is in any way mobile, and a desktop will be cheaper.
@@tim3172 Can buy a light laptop with a great screen and decent 4-6 core CPU and then use an eGPU box to make it a very decent upgradeable gaming rig at home.
This is awesome. Looking back on 6 years of architecture school, a well-built laptop spec'd for graphic performance is an absolute life essential. And considering model materials, drawing supplies, and printing costs, $2K is a drop in the bucket.
I think, personally, that it would be a better option to get one good desktop (which can get equivalent performance of a 2 grand laptop for 1.3 grand) and a notebook for simple note taking tasks and light word documents in class.
Really depends. When I started college I got crammed in a tiny dorm room smaller than most studio apartments with 2 other people. There was barely enough space for bunk beds and desks. I did most of my work outside of my house, and truthfully I dont know if a good desktop PC would have fit. MAYBE I could've fit an all in one.
Excellent. The very high end gaming quality on these sleek portable machines will ensure I get no work done at all and flunk out of whatever program I'm in after two bleary semesters.
It's not a law, it's a mandate. I'm pretty sure that laws have to go through court and whatever else to be made into a law. Sure a mandate is sorta like a law but if say a store doesn't enforce it, then you don't have to worry about not wearing one if you believe or know that it doesn't do anything.
When you started ltt I guarantee you never thought you'd reach the day which you have, I think, over 50 employees and brands that just send you cash and product in exchange for a video. They don't mind if it's beefier than necessary." That being said, things that ought to matter to a college student: • Excellent keyboard and trackpad. • Silent under light load • Tough enough to survive being jostled in an overstuffed backpack (with a case). • Reasonably light • Reasonably thin. • Decent warranty.

at high schools and such at least here in america, most laptops for students are chrome. google strikes deals with schools and force all students to use chrome os and googles applications. which was really funny cuz they didnt teach us word and when i got to college our teachers were appalled that we couldnt use word. basically, none of the school systems are working together- but thats a discussion for another day lol
@@cmnidit4444 When I started college in 2006 (oh god I'm old...) there was a mandatory tech class that was just a basic course on how to use the Microsoft Office suite because the high schools in our area made students write essays with pen and paper to which students were appalled to learn they now had to type everything up from now on. lol. As far as you not knowing Word, it's a word processing app same as Google Docs or LibreOffice. Frankly, As long as you aren't overpaying for your tools, none of them take any more than the most basic of tech knowledge to use and your teacher probably needed to take a class to learn how to copy and paste text so, they're probably throwing stones from a glass house on that one. I remember one time I had a teacher demand we turn in a document digitally and it HAD to be .doc instead of .docx to which no one else in the class understood how to do (because most of my generation remained as incompetent w/ technology as their parents for reasons I'll never understand) and I couldn't convince him that his requirement was stupid. Turns out he hadn't upgraded his copy of Word and his old version didn't support .docx. I told him he just needed to upgrade his copy of Office and he turned around and reiterated to the class we needed to turn in a .doc file or fail so, I had a good laugh that day. In the teacher's defense, upgrading Office at the time would've cost him over $100. Nowadays I'd say just open it in Google Docs or download LibreOffice which is basically Office if it was good... @Soniku Raharu I'm sure even engineering majors don't need a 2080ti
@Soniku Raharu apparently everyone does rendering and 3D animation because that's usually their go to rebuttal when giving a reason why they buy a high end AMD CPU. Example. "Sure Intel CPU's has faster single core speeds but they get SMASHED when rendering animations for Michael Bay films!" Even though they themselves probably just use the AMD CPU for gaming and probably never rendered a thing in their life. It's just something they regurgitate over and over probably because they can't afford Intel.

Linus: a 17 inch super thick laptop that costs 3000 USD is perfect for students

@@unamistone1906 Indie development is often a luck of the draw, and being a freelancer requires a set of skills that many people dont have.

(and free)
Why do I always watch rich people play with computers?
