@@phantomlantern9169 me too. I was wondering if the skit would be about just pointing out all the penalties the character should have in the circumstances, but the DM was bending the rules for their benefit.
Bill seemed to know a lot about physics and chemistry... Something of a science guy or something else
You know, im something…
He could have been an amazing Artificer.
Running a meth lab will do that, I hear.
I can't de-Nye that.
Nye don't get the reference
4:02 "You know what Bill, that's crazy! You do it!" What a great DM
The Geneva Convention does not extend to the Forgotten Realms.
Trust me, I play a lawyer.
In the game, right...?
IN THE *GAME*, RIGHT?!
Actually, if you are a citizen of a country which accepted the Geneva Conventions, you need to keep it too, even if you're in a place what didn't agree to it (basically your homeland's laws apply to you no matter where you are). And Bill, well... he's seemingly from USA Deep South, sooo.... :D

Bill: I used to clean pool.
In Baldur Gate?!
Bill: Yeah.
This make me laugh so hard!
tbf, there are fountains, and pretty sure the city won't let it get all mucked up with algae and yuck, so it is plausible, but might not be called pools
Lmao I think every game needs a "Bill". Also "that's mustard gas brother" has to be one of the best quotes I've ever heard!
my first group I dm'd for were my college roommates. we were all engineering students. they put a strap on the outside of the bag of holding and then strung it over an immovable rod to create a mobile turret for the archer to pop in and out of. their "that's just physics brother" responses were the bane of my existence because we all passed physics together and they were usually right. i loved that game
remind them the difference between paper physics and real life objects with hidden stress points you can't see
“There’s no chance it won’t work, it’s physics”
I s2g I’ve heard this too many times
"Ok, roll me an arcana check" (the mechanism seems to be mixed with a magical liquid that doesnt exist in the real world)
@@BODELTOTE"I drink it"
This is when you play the "Yeah, but this is a game about magic and the mechanism can be different, and we are playing a game so failure is also a point we deal with but here is advantage for being descriptive about it" card.
Ok, depending on the context I could allow them to not roll, but still.
I mean, it's a legit point. Your character is supposed to be a trained X or Y doing stuff, so I don't see any reason why anything has to fail in a rather simple situation.
GM could be more creative.
Like you see the pressure plate is slightly corroded due to the acid and if you don't work fast enough the trigger will activate anyways.
Or it's rigged to activate upon deactivation and you have seconds to figure out what's the real deactivating mechanism.
Or there are just people shooting at you, that also does the trick.
Etc.
I hate when characters do this. Its up to the DM to decide what is going on, not the players. Especially when the party barbarian uses his real life knowledge to try and make something only a trained artificer could do, and argues that since he as a player knows how to do something their character should as well.
please for the love of god make this a series I live and die for BILL
BILL IS GONNA KILL EVERYONE LOL XD. (also bill is technically an alchemist barbarian? )
Me too!! I am obsessed with Bill!
Omg please!!!!
@@devinayaz9210nah Bill's just a farmer

Loved this skit! Loved taking the "Guy who tries to apply physics and irl knowledge to D&D" trope, but instead of being annoyed about it, just letting the guy have it and running with it, while seamlessly also showcasing the other players playing "normally" with skill checks with no conflict between the two.
Also, skit was just funny af. x3
The last minute of the video was comedy gold "ooh buddy, I rage and I strangle him" or "that's a mustard gas brother"

FUN STORY! When I DM'ed my first campaign, we had a player who actually named his human fighter after himself--Will! And when I asked for an NPC for the character, he gave me 2 sisters--which I later found out were named after his real sisters. 😅
He's still a part of our group, and has since been DM, but you hit real close to home with this one. 😂
He doesn’t do that every time, does he? No jokes about a “Council of Wills”? Because if so I think we know the same guy.

This is literally how to play 1st edition.
I mean, the exhaustive description and application of real world knowledge. That's actually required.
I run an OSR game and for a while there i couldnt understand what was so funny about using a wedge and pick to pry open a pressure plate
i mean, kinda? as a 2nd edition player (which is just a big errata of 1st edition by modern standards) there was a lot more hinging on the nerdiness of the players, but i think youre exaggerating how extensive the significance of that is
@@GormforkYeah, in my book that’s just called “playing D&D.”
That actually sounds like a lot of fun. I really want to play a game like that.
LMAO "why did you do that?"

Bill just started and he's already committing war crimes?! GOOD JOB BILL!
looking forward to the inevitable Bill + Gigachad + Wizard crossover
This was how I ran my Planescape campaign. I had everybody make characters based on themselves with the same equipment as whatever they had on them at the time, and sent them through a portal to Sigil.
So-
an isekai campaign then?

@@Ky-Nas my playgroup did this once, applying as many real world physics as possible to the game. Turns out, doing that makes you way more terrifying than in a normal campaign.
@@casteanpreswyn7528 That sounds like a lot of fun, I'm genuinely curious to hear more.
@@casteanpreswyn7528Did your players dive into antimatter made with presdigitation? Or creating images with presdigitation that have a color of a frequency of 10^150 Hz? There are so many ways to blow up planets if you apply realistic physics to d&d.
Love how as a barbarian he makeshifts a mustard gas bomb but only rages when someone survives it just to put his bare hands on it, the German in him is powerful indeed
Plays barbarian
Charged with domestic violence and murder
Strangles a man to death for being a cop
Why isn't he wearing a wifebeater?
There is a difference between German and Nazi, the entire country was on a campaign of removing any semblance of Hitler's regime, and has apologized for the actions of it's past leaders profusely.
That's honestly not a bad character to start playing as, since it helps as an easy introduction to roleplay. Though it does get pretty dumb after a while, especially if you've been playing for a couple years.
Man I love,Ororffforourof-Orc!
I love how Jacob gave Bill almost the same voice that he has for Arthur Morgan. It’s so fitting lol
Wait a minute... I recognize you from somewhere
cool pfp
honestly while i massively respect people who can act as characters wildly different from themselves, i've found that most of the time it's easier to incorporate an element of yourself into the character and develop that over time in order to make a unique character
say for example, maybe you're a really witty person, you could try playing a charisma based build, and build the character around that wit, or maybe you're a really caring person, and end up being the party mom
obviously don't play literally yourself, but if you do focus on an element of yourself, it can make getting into character easy
"You know what Bill, that's crazy, you do it."
10/10 holy lmao
"Bill! Bill! Bill! Bill! Bill! Bill! Bill! (Bill Nye The Science Guy!) Bill! Bill! Bill Bill! (Science Rules!) Bill! Bill! Bill! Bill!"

And Bill is now my favorite.
I'll never get over just how good you are at acting so many characters in a single scene and flawlessly stitching them together for videos.
Jacob not referring to his clones as Jacob was a real immersion breaker
We love bill
"I don't need a sheet, I have all in my head"
Bill... get out
I like the way Bill played that. He had almost nothing to work with, but damn if he didn't pull through.
Bill: "Yeah, the cops think I killed my wife Lisa, but they're way off."
Rest of the Party: "That phrasing doesn't scream innocent."
Bill: "I never said I was."
Plot twist: he hired a hitman
He released an exercise tape weeks before the incident
As a fan of the channel for a while. seeing your kid grow up in the background of the videos has made me feel old. thanks.
I felt that, too! During the sponsored segment I was like, "omigosh, she's getting so big!"
I read the notification and thought it would be a “you played yourself” moment but this was much better
3:25 “You’ve all been in a cell before?”
Bill: “Yep”
Me: remembers Bill is playing himself
Ok now i need to see Cumwagon, Wizard, Bill and Chad in a party
"Thats mustard gaaesss brorher >:)"
Bill is honestly a really cool character concept
Had this once recently. Was running a modern campaign and had them fight a tank. It was meant to be a difficult encounter where they would work together to destroy it, only for one player to look up the specific make and model, as well as it's blueprints, exclusively to try and cheat the game in the first round
Okay but actually tho, playing as Orpheus after losing Eurydice is a sick idea for a character
I want bill to be a reoccurring character now
This settles it, my next character is also Bill the Human Barbarian Engineer Pool Cleaner Widower
For some reason this made me think of a delusional barbarian who thinks they are an artificer and rages when their construct is broken when they throw it at an enemy expecting said enemy to die.
They should probably carry around a comically large wrench that they use as a maul in battle.
who may or may not have killed his wife
I think it's perfectly reasonable and good to incorporate some real life knowledge/skills in a D&D Character/Game.
This should have totally have been a like a 30min -- hr skit Bill was pure GOLD XD or a series like "the wizard"
"Bill the guys that's himself" XD
Bill is the only character that is funnier to watch than the Wizard.
I almost died laughing, cause I absolutely know Bill irl and he fucking scares me! Lol.
Bill: You know, I’m something of a scientist myself.
Bill answers the question "Have you ever been to jail before?" with a kind of tired "Yup".
The same Bill who plays as HIMSELF.
Bill will be the new Wizard. He traded fireball for mustard gas.

The Orpheus joke got me lol
This actually shows a good point about not always calling for a roll if it's not needed
Which is pretty much 90% of the time for most DMs...
Especially when it comes to things like lifting heavy things and Str based characters.
Yeah the systems are just models to make it easy to make fair decisions if you don't already have an idea of how it should go. Super useful if you are playing someone different from yourself too, but if everyone feels like "it just makes sense" then their is no reason for a ruling on it!
I love the physics bit because me and my 3 friends all play DnD together and we all study physics at uni together too, so we’re just constantly convincing our DM that “Um, actually this should happen because physics” and it leads to some shenanigans to say the least
This guy would thrive in an OSR dungeoncrawler.

This was 100% comedic gold. I need more
why do people play roleplaying games just to roleplay as THEM??? Like seriously
This would be me but unintentionally because I lack media literacy and have no idea how to write a good character. 🙃
imaging myself in a fantasy setting and thinking about how i would react to the world around me is interesting
If you're new then it can often just be the easiest thing to do, if you're experienced it can be cool thought experiment. Though if you're gonna play yourself I would recommend being in a party where everyone is themselves.
Some people like roleplaying games not to make up fleshed out fictional characters but because they just enjoy the mechanics of the game. You could ask, "Why don't they just play a video game?" The answer is because video games don't give the same creative freedom that TTRPGs do. Video games have hard rules, which is a very different experience from the flexible nature of imagination.
I personally am a writer as a hobby, but my favorite part about D&D is ultimately the gameplay, and any roleplaying is basically if it was me in that situation but with some alterations informed by my backstory, race, class, and the setting. But personality-wise it's basically just me. Some people just like being themselves and imagining themselves in different circumstances.
Some people are just already their fantasy self😉
I refuse to believe that Or-or-or-or-Org bit sounding like five nights at freddys wasn’t intentional
everyone saying "BIIIILL!" while he looks so chill at the end was so funny
