Brilliant! Saved me a load of grief and money. Mine has been getting really difficult getting into gears. I used a lithium grease. Its like driving a different van now. Im planning on changing the transmission oil soon and will add molybdenum to it. My vans done 170k and never let me down.
Thanks dan , you got me back up and running , was stuck in 2nd gear for a few days , and my mechanic is fully booked this week .. saved the week , thanks for sharing
On a trip with the band in Ireland, a very long way from home and the gear change on our van started to get really stiff to the point I was having to block change from 1st to 4th at one point. Thinking this was going to be a recovery job, I did a quick Google around and your video popped up. Thank you!! Gear change is smooth again and we will at least be able to get home to have it looked at by our mechanic. Can’t thank you enough!
Don't forget that WD40 is a degreaser! So really, you want to spray it on to free it all up, leave it to work, exercise the gear stick, then clean off the WD40 and apply some longer lasting lubricant. Just spraying with wd40 will free them up temporarily, but they will quickly seize up again as the WD will have removed any lubricant that was on them.
My gear change was really stiff , really hard to get into 3rd and 4th gear, gave it a soaking with WD40 where you said , kept changing gear with the engine off for a couple of minutes, went for a drive , the gear change was so easy , felt like a new vehicle, cheers mate 👍
Hi buddy , great little tip , on me hols & on route to berlin went through a load of serious heavy downpours . Next day driving through & around berlin gears was really sticky n stiff to manoeuvre . Given area a good spray & its done the trick ...typical friday late afternoon no garages open .
Thanks for a good solution, worked well on my renault trafic,. But a new problem occured when winter came. Temperature below freezing point gives a complete locked gear shift lever. After running the motor warm it seems like the problem melts away. Temperature below -10 can make the problem come back when driving.
For what it's worth. While you're in there take the opportunity and do exactly the same on the steering U joint! Another point which tend to stiffen up over time. Same reasons as the gear levers. Dirt, debris, rust, etc. In a perfect world it would be disassembled cleaned, lubed and put back into service. But on a short notice this is quick and easy. ;-) With this said. It's also worth understand that this applies to a rather large number of vehicles/brands. In fact it's a very common problem, with a similar solution. Cheers
What if the gears are engaging good when engine is off, but its hard to engage 1st and reverse when engine is running? (Sometimes its crunch when trying to engage reverse) New clutch job? Clutch biting point is ok, quite low as its should be?
Hard for me to give advice without checking it out unfortunately, it doesn’t sound good though if it’s trouble when running. I’d get it checked out locally 👍🏻
My Zafira B 1.7 CDTI has stiff gears when hot and generally jiggles about. I have had the linkage lubricated but it has not helped. Gear oil change and that has not helped my last option is the gear cable replacement which is tomorrow fingers crossed this is fixed or its a gearbox rebuild 😓
Hi, good day gentleman. We have a vauxhall movano 2017, gear stick is really stiff, anything I can do at home, some parts to lube up (WD40) maybe , like on this video ? Cheers,, thanks for your answer. Jim
Speedo sensor would be first to be replaced. Just done mine. Cheap on ebay and the sensor just unscrew. There at the bottom of the engine so build up of crap and water can have them playing up.

Mine is doing this too. What did your mechanic do/say to resolve this?
Normally strip down and re grease, or part replacement. Try this for now

Tricky to get to Jim, it may be worth a trip to the garage
@@PlumbingGy - this is how I feel, overcrowded under the hood :/
Cheers
Hi great video! I wonder if you can help I've got a 1.9 renault trafic with no ABS but my speedo doesn't work have you got any ideas? Many thanks

My Garage wants to take the gearbox out and replace the Sync hubs or something? Sounds expensive 😅
Thanks for the tip
Would this be the same for a 16 plate vivaro ?
I'm not too sure it may differ slightly to be honest
💯🙋♂️💪 thanks brother 🤝
Would this cause a gear to grind?
Mine have had no issues and still functioning fine 👍🏻
What about if you not got minimum distance? Are u making video on that problem any soon?
I was hoping I would find the video if there wasn’t the minimum distance as well
