    Just stumbled across this and have to say that the pros and cons are amazingly similar to when I was there in the early eighties! For prospective students, I would add that there is a very strong alumni network and that, because of the academic rigor, you will be very well prepared for graduate school.

    Hey girl! Class of '18 alum here. I loved your video, it reminded me of why I loved W&M so much. At first, I thought William and Mary was in the middle of nowhere until I started medical school in Kentucky. It's all about perspective haha.

    There's plenty to do off campus. W&M is not in the middle of nowhere. There are beaches 5 miles away, Prime Outlets is also 5 miles away, the movies are 2 miles away, Richmond road has lots of food options. Target is a 10 min drive and Walmart is roughly 20 min away. Newport News/Hampton is 30-45 min away and they also have a ton of stuff to do. Busch Gardens is a 10 min drive and Water Country is the same. Everything is an easy $10 uber ride unless you're going to Newport news/Hampton.

    W&M is like a rural city place, if you go out of colonial area there’s tons to do. Williamsburg is a big place

    I’ve been looking at schools of 6000 or 7000 undergrads as a “middle-sized “ school, as opposed to say a Haverford or a Swarthmore with just over 1000 undergrads. We know several people who left schools like that because they felt just too too small

    So informative, thank you! I am an OOS student on the waitlist for class of 2025, thinking about spring term guaranteed admission if I don't get off the WL. My only concern is missing orientation! Everyone I've spoken to emphasizes it a lot.

    This sounds like the school of my dreams, or at least as close as it could be. Even thought I’m not close to applying to college I’m confident that I want to go into the arts (I’m currently interested in storyboarding as a career) Would you say that the art program is pretty good, especially the digital/animation side. Very informative video TY

    Glad you're having a nice time of it. Sounds wildly different than the W&M I graduated from 21 years ago, except for the "small," "hard," and "grade deflation" parts. 😂 But the food was pretty good.

    Hi, I just got into W&M for class of 2025 and I was just wondering if the grade deflation is true. I heard rumors about W&M having severe grade deflation and im already scared.

    • @Sbiito
      @Sbiito 3 года назад +11

      Grade deflation doesn't exist at W&M; I think it would go against our values. It could be that some students are surprised by the increase in intensity of work compared to their high school and get upset when they get Cs
      and Bs. Just do your best and don't fear the grades; it's about the experience. You'll learn something similar to this in part of orientation by Kelly Grace (Authentic Excellence).

      I think it is more about academic rigor. Not deflation. W&M students are serious about their academics.

      uhhhhh lol it’s gonna be up to luck! everyone logs on at the same time and a lot of times the website crashes, so I can’t really predict! you’ll be fine, everything works out for the best:)

    • @nereesewatson7962
      @nereesewatson7962 4 года назад +8

      Use a hotspot if you can - the wifi is slow when all the first years log on at once. Have a couple tabs open in case the site crashes. Write down the CRNs (course registration numbers) for the classes you want and put them in order of priority from left to right. Also, have backup classes for your first picks if they're aren't many seats and check pre-requisites for your classes before. You can also use Coursicle to make class schedule drafts so you can plan your day with meals and clubs around that - Freshman RA
