    • @its-all-good

      @@johnbuckles1344 Spot on. Rank choice voting did us in with J Quan "winning" just as it is today with her election.
      OPD would have had enforcement plans in place if we had Taylor instead of her firing of the chief. She does not understand the Oakland mindset of those who elect a life of crime thus the reason crime is rampant and businesses are closing / leaving. She has a coddling mindset as many women do and as she has campaigned. She would be a decent mayor in a city with far less complexities as The Town. Not here.

    People forget, back in 2004, the city council voted to boost ALL city pensions by a instant 35% overnight.
    If you had been expecting a 60% pension after 30 years of service, you were instantly now in line for a 81% pension after 30 years of service. EVEN if you only worked for one month under the new agreement, ALL your prior years of service were also bumped up, despite no money or contributions had been collected or set aside.
    Under the new 2004 agreement people who retired after working from age 23 to age 68 got a 100% pension for life. (2.7% for each year of service equals 35 x 2.7%)
    BTW, that for a 37.5 hour work week with many many holidays and vacation days.
    Any wonder why every year there is huge deficit?

      You also aware those pensions aren’t paid out of those budgets but from state pension system so no it’s very different. Where’s all the money if there’s so few workers now? Budget must be like 30-40% less then 2021

    • @delwoodkelp8590
      @delwoodkelp8590 23 дня назад

      @@user-ts7ns7bt2v You seem to think that the state pension CalPers is not connected to the annual Oakland budget. In fact CalPers comes back every single year with massive pension payment due (for existing retirees).... which adds from a EXTRA 24 to 38 million per year. That pension payment increase to Oakland's budget is mandated and MUST be paid. The money set aside over the years was not adequate, as every financial expert told them they were totally unrealistic in the long run.,
      Oakland jumped from given workers 2.0% for every year of service,, to 2.7%,
      A 60,000 dollar pension jumped to a $81,000 pension "over-night" with not a single cent being put aside to cover the looming shortfall.
      Oakland is living with that give-a-way to this day. A typical 30 year retiree got what amounts to a unexpected $600,000 golden parachute .
      Some top officials got well over a million dollar bonus over their life expectancy.
      No one complained because EVERYONE was in on the massive giveaway.
      Cities like San Leandro did not join in the massive boost and remain far more financially able ...not buried in future excess payments.
