The 8th generation of consoles had the strangest launch window imo. Ryse, Thief, Fighter Within, just to name a few. It was all so bizarre

My Dad bought me a PS4 with Killzone and was furious to find me playing Resogun all day as it just looked “the same as Galaxian from 40 years ago” and not the Next Gen £349 experience.

A lot of the PS3 era Sony games never really got their time to shine since Xbox 360 was the dominant console in the west. The region where these kinds of games have the most appeal.
Killzone 2 and 3, inFAMOUS 1 and 2, the Resistance trilogy, Puppeteer, Playstation All-Stars, and so many others deserve another shot. They are as good, and in some cases, better than
those developers output in the PS4 generation. If PS3 had been the dominant console like the PS4 was they probably would have sold several million copies and been remembered as fondly as things like Horizon and Ghost of Tsushima
Including Resogun was the correct decision, absolutely brilliant game.

Same here. Replayed it recently and loved it. If I wanted a first party beat em up though I preferred Knack. Have yet to replay the sequel.

When I saw the PS4's launch lineup in 2013, I decided to hold off. I finally bit the bullet and bought one the next year with Killzone Shadow Fall and Infamous Second Son. It wasn't anything spectacular but I enjoyed both games and would spend some time on the PS4 even if I was still on PS3 most of the time. It got better over time with Bloodborne, The Witcher 3, MGS5 and Uncharted 4
I got a PS5 recently and since I never had a Playstation before I'm enjoying a bunch of ps4 games and ps5 games at 60fps. God of War is definitely my favorite so far, Grand Turismo 7 is an honorable mention, and Spiderman was fun despite a bit grindy. Gonna start TLOU soon after I finish Shadow of the Colossus.
I held off on buying the PS4 for a while and didn't get around to buying it until 2016. My first two games were Bloodborne and Uncharted 4 and those two games, especially Bloodborne, made the console purchase immediately worth it. Ultimately I didn't get around to buying as many games on the PS4 as I did with the PS2 and PS3 since I wasn't playing as much anymore and I also had a gaming PC that I gave some attention to and also owned an XB1 S that I owned a few games on, though fewer than on PS4, my overall experience with the PS4 and the 8th gen has been good.
@@aninfinitemindofmusicandreams Same thing for me, I have the same number of games on my PS4 as my PS2 (22) but it was still less than on my PS3 (29). Still I had a good time on PS4 and it has some of my favorite games of all time.
@@Trippsy05 That's great, I would also recommend that you play the Uncharted games, the Horizon games and Ghost of Tsushima.
I got a PS4 a few years after it was released, but I have only played Resogun out of all the launch lineup. I really missed out on 'AC Black Flag'.

I enjoyed the PS4's launch lineup quite a bit. While on the smaller side, it had plenty of quality titles. I played the hell out of AC4, Need for Speed Rivals, Killzone's multiplayer, and NBA 2K14. Good variety of quality games!

What’s shocking about it? That the exclusives overall are mediocre, and that it lacks a stone-cold classic ?
Because otherwise the third party output is probably some of the better across any generation

Killzone Shadowfall, Knack, Infamous second son and DriveClub are masterpieces that still hold up today graphically and design wise

I knew you guys had history in games journalism and ties with other voices who talk games, especially being former What Culture, but I didn't realize there was some "sour feelings" with PS Access. Also, I legitimately enjoyed Killzone Shadow fall. It was a good "hardware benchmark" game and the campaign was a fun time sink for that first werk

Played Black Flag for the first time in 2021 while making my way through all the Assassin's Creed games in-order, can confirm it's easily the best one. Its story just hits different

Resogun was the very first game I ever played on the ps4 as it was free for a while when I got mine. That game looked fucking amazing when I first played it. Hope they make a ps5 version or a second one with even better graphics

My PS4 was boxed with Shadow Fall. The first Killzone I played, rather enjoyed it from what I remember.

Honestly I love the original Killzone on ps2 due to the Multiplayer. Are the Bots the Smartest no but damn they are fun to battle.

People complained about the Switch's launch line up being too small, but at least people had Breath of the Wild to tie themselves over until more quality titles came out within the first month. 3DS launch was definitely the worst out of all Nintendo platforms besides Virtual Boy.
The ps5 may have a better launch but jesus christ 2015 and 2016 completely shit on everything the ps5 has had since 2020-2024

TripleJump, with these things, what about the F2P games with the xbox 360- today(including Playstation etc etc) Like Warframe beta was on PS4 and was a smash hit that came from the start of PS4 day
ps4 is still widely popular cause more people have an active one instead of an active ps5. it's still very tough to get one.. if sony did a better job transitioning from gen to gen, or waited until circumstances were better, everyone would have a ps5 by now.
