Didn't think much of this song when I first heard this album but I return to it more than the others. Funny how things stick in the subconscious like that.
That is one of the beautiful things of songs like this. When you hear them out and about you get this wonderful sense of privilege as you know not many people have heard or even play this. I get an immediate connection with whoever is responsible for putting it on.
Man the memories this fuckin beautiful song brings back to me, my favourite Lou Reed album, when it came out I was obsessed with it, it was the sound track to a crazy period of my life.
Also 1'st time i believe Lou Hadan Charter..w/-I love you Suzanne '..Ps;I found these 'C.D box set's 5'Lps per set @The Warehouse got 3(outta 5?)All his lps from 1'sr self titled rite thru :-),
Read in the paper 'bout a man killed with a sword and that made my think of my friend George People said the man was five foot six sounds like George with his killing stick Hey bro, what's the word talkin' 'bout my friend George Hey bro, what's the word talkin' 'bout my friend George You talkin' 'bout my friend George I knew George since he's eight I always thought that he was great And anything that George would do you know that I would do it too George liked music and George liked to fight he worked out in a downtown gym every night I'd spar with him when work was done we split lips but it was all in fun Hey bro, what's the word you talkin' 'bout my friend George Hey bro, what's the word talkin' 'bout my friend George Talkin' 'bout my friend George Next thing I hear George's got this stick he's using it for more than kicks I seen him down at Smalley's bar he was wired up, I tried to calm him down Avenge yourself he says to me avenge yourself for humanity Avenge yourself for the weak and the poor stick it to these guys right through their heads Well, the fight is my music, the stick is my sword and you know that I love you, so please don't say a word Can't you hear the music playing, the anthem, it's my call and the last I seen of George was him running through the door, I says - Hey bro, what's the word talkin' 'bout my friend George Hey bro, what's the word you talkin' 'bout my friend George Talkin' 'bout my friend George Hey bro, what's the word you talkin' 'bout my friend George Hey bro, what's the word what me saying 'bout my friend George Hey bro, what's the word hear you talkin' 'bout my friend George Hey bro, what's the word I hear talkin' 'bout my friend George
Given Bob Dylan’s song-writing prowess, in my imagination, he secretly wrote every single pop, rock, country, folk, and rap song, from 1961 onwards, but that the music industry had to keep it under wraps, for fear that people might fall into some quasi-idolatrous state of worship of Bobby D. So, The Kinks, The Stones, The Who, Zeppelin, Run DMC, and even JPop and KPop bands and Duran Duran, One Direction and various other and sundry poseurs were just unable to put together even the most rudimentary of songs, until Dylan showed up and scribbled all of their greatest hits on cocktail napkins, in a few seconds, before telling them to give those ditties a try, and then leaving on his horse (named Zimmerhorst).
i read it was about Lincoln Swados, the schizophrenic and drug fueled Lou Reed's roommate at Syracuse. I think it was in Victor Bockris' bio (Transformer) or in Anthony De Curtis' bio. Swados was an inspiration for other songs as The Home of the Brave and Harry's Circumsicion (Reverie Gone Astray).
When I was a lad this was a campfire tune whole album 55 now still ❤ it

God i fucking love Lou Reed
Synth chords mid way through are a brief thing of beauty.
Read in the paper 'bout a man killed with a sword
and that made my think of my friend George
People said the man was five foot six
sounds like George with his killing stick
Hey bro, what's the word
talkin' 'bout my friend George
Hey bro, what's the word
talkin' 'bout my friend George
You talkin' 'bout my friend George
I knew George since he's eight
I always thought that he was great
And anything that George would do
you know that I would do it too
George liked music and George liked to fight
he worked out in a downtown gym every night
I'd spar with him when work was done
we split lips but it was all in fun
Hey bro, what's the word
you talkin' 'bout my friend George
Hey bro, what's the word
talkin' 'bout my friend George
Talkin' 'bout my friend George
Next thing I hear George's got this stick
he's using it for more than kicks
I seen him down at Smalley's bar
he was wired up, I tried to calm him down
Avenge yourself he says to me
avenge yourself for humanity
Avenge yourself for the weak and the poor
stick it to these guys right through their heads
Well, the fight is my music, the stick is my sword
and you know that I love you, so please don't say a word
Can't you hear the music playing, the anthem, it's my call
and the last I seen of George was him
running through the door, I says -
Hey bro, what's the word
talkin' 'bout my friend George
Hey bro, what's the word
you talkin' 'bout my friend George
Talkin' 'bout my friend George
Hey bro, what's the word
you talkin' 'bout my friend George
Hey bro, what's the word
what me saying 'bout my friend George
Hey bro, what's the word
hear you talkin' 'bout my friend George
Hey bro, what's the word
I hear talkin' 'bout my friend George
Really great to hear this again. Thanks for posting!

@@michellegray9806 When I saw him live I met him and he signed my 80s copy of this album.
@@smallfaucet That's so fucking cool!!!!
@@CourtneyLee62 I can't tell how COOL the guy was....so much swagger and just exuded coolness.
@@smallfaucet I bet. I like watching him in interviews.
I have this album on vinyl, it’s always satisfying to listen to.
I would very much like Dylan to do a cover version of this song, and “I love you Suzanne”.

Beautiful
Lou...
i feel like this song pretty much sums up most of the Pixies' sound, no? If they listened to it, it probably had a big influence on them
I was just thinking this sounds like a Frank Black song
Glada dagar!
I still remember finding this song on this lp and being blow away! Rest of the lp is meh.
High in the City just feels good tho
A toe tapper. Claus's gourmet restaurant would play this album.
Place where i would go then....right on Claus.
He said ? #MatthewFox? Bad theology?
#Antagonized
is this about george haggis?

ℹ thought Lawless was wonderful. He died antagonized.
