I have found that using ultra pure paraffin lamp oil in this little steam engine is the key to great smoke. I tried about every other brand a the ultra pure paraffin lamp oil works every time i hit f7 and theres thick plumes of smoke that come out of both stacks. All the other fluids were hit or miss usually just one stack would smoke.
What initiated the smoke explosion at 11:20? It produced a large quantity of correct puffing smoke afterwards, but quickly went out of frame and was not seen puffing smoke again.
Hi, thanks for watching and for your comment. We are not sure what happened, we are learning about the smoke in this new locomotive. We will do more videos about it. Kind regards
For those Kato trucks you're pulling behind it, did they work with the stock coupler without needing modification? BLI's specs say it works with any Micro Trains compatible coupler, and Kato's website describes those cars as having magnetic couplers - any issues hooking them up together?
Hi, thanks for watching and for your question. The locomotive and car have the original couplers, no modifications at all. They are working fine, no issues at the moment. All the best!
Thanks for watching and for your question. We preferred the BLI because it has a battery (capacitor) installed and the details are better. Also it has smoke but is not the best smoke system. The Kato is very good too, but has not a capacitor installed. Thanks again.
@@UnionPacificAustralia how has the decoder been for you? I have a HO BLI and it doesn’t seem as solid as the Loksound, but it still generally fine. I also don’t plan to run smoke
@@DietPizza1 yes the loksound is a much better docoder but in n scale de Paragon 4 is very good. The main difference is the factory installed capacitor. This Big boy never stops. I have the Kato Gs4 and UP FEF 844 with loksound and sometimes they loose power and stop in a “dirty” track section or switch.
Of course, it is a small layout, we don’t have the space to model a prototypical layout or it is our goal at all. We do this just for fun. Thanks for watching and for your comment.
Beautiful Big Boy! Thinking about getting into N gauge. Great review!👍
Thanks for watching and for your support! Yes it is a great locomotive! Enjoy
A 3ml Syringe with 23Ga needle works very well to put the smoke fluid in. The pipette will break at some point. Use about 0.3ML of fluid.
Thanks Robbert for your comment and advice. We will try today! Thanks again
a strength test would be really cool to see.
Thanks for watching and for your request. We will do the test as soon as possible. All the best
Crikey! That's a whoppa!

Excellent! Thanks for sharing this information with the model train community! All the best!

Great video! What track are you using on your layout? Is your layout dc or dcc? Subscribed!

Thanks for watching and for your questions, I using Kato unitrack track, it is a dcc layout powered by Digitrax. Thanks again!
8:14 That pop! 😲 Is this a fan driven smoke unit?
Yes, a big pop in n scale! LOL. No is not a fan unit, thanks for watching !

Does Broadway include smoke fluid with the model or does that need to be purchased separately? Thanks for the amazing videos as always!
Thanks for watching and for your questions. No we bought the smoke fluid from a hobby shop. Thanks!
You should have shown the underside to point out the traction tires, and the problematic rearmost truck on the locomotive.
Thanks for watching and for your feedback. We will do it next time, all the best!
Trying to decide between this and the Kato…any suggestions?

@@UnionPacificAustralia good point, I have the GS4 as well and it does the same.
BLI ordered, thanks!
@@DietPizza1 Congratulations, I’m sure you will enjoy this loco! All the best!
Hello, you have an accent. Where you from?
Hi, from Australia. Thanks for watching!
May I know if the trucks behind the big boy are from KATO?
Thanks for the question, yes correct they are Kato cars.
@@UnionPacificAustralia Thank you
@@seanhui8310 no problems, happy to help!
Sorry, but those curves are just too tight for those passenger cars. Does not look prototypical at all. The Big Boy needs longer radius as well.
