  • Sudhakar Kashid, journalist of a local Marathi newspaper in Kolhapur, suddenly delved upon the story of Polish refugee camp of Valivade when Polish survivors starting re-visiting Kolhapur. Since then, he has been meeting and discovering local survivors of that time as well as, Polish visitors. He has also penned a coffee table book on the history of Kolhapur.
"I used to wonder who these white people are. Then I visited the camp site in Valivade. Later, once few people from Poland embassy came here to pay respects to the cemetery of Polish people. That was the time when I started thinking of these people from a different angle. Imagine, their countrymen died some 30-40 years ago, and yet these people come here to offer flowers to them and pray for them. This gesture showcased their love for their countrymen." - Sudhakar Kashid.
