I never find artistic freedom in sketchbooks. I still see them as my final canvas and have to make them look good. I find freedom in large sheets torn to journal-sized papers. Only then can I paint what I like. If i don’t like the result, I through the paper into my recycling bin. If I like the result or I see a reason to keep the paper, then I add it to my to-be-bound-later stack. When I have enough sheets, I bind them into a journal.

They're the Clairefontaine Goldline Natural Square Travel Album. They feel like the most fun sketchbook I've ever worked in! Love the paper and they're not intimidatingly large (they only have 32 sheets).
