The advantage of the aluminum and teflon is that it would be more robust. My glass tube is always cracking and needing to be replaced.

    • @electricandmagneticfields2314

      I don't think the thickness will matter. The wider the more contact between the rubber band and the glass and the more total charge.

      Yes it does. It pulls electrons off the outer surface of the rubber band. Otherwise the negative charge would build up on this outer surface and stop anymore electrons from transferring from the metal can to the outer surface of the rubber band.

      Eventually they would not touch because the wire would scratch off the rubber. Similarly there would probably be pieces of metal on the belt. The main parts are some PVC pipe I got at a hardware store, a toy motor, an empty soda can, a rubber band, a glass tube, some wire, and a battery holder. The glass tube is probably the hardest to obtain. I have done the glass tube in two ways. Taking the ends off a glass fuse and scribing and breaking a pipette.

    • @electricandmagneticfields2314
      @electricandmagneticfields2314  8 лет назад +1

      +Dawson Francis Since there is so little charge on the Van de Graaff generator, you need to use an electrostatic voltmeter. The principle of operation of the electrostatic voltmeter is like that for an electroscope
      ruclips.net/video/4UnggxPVCYw/видео.html
      I found a youtube video doing this measurement,

    • @electricandmagneticfields2314
      @electricandmagneticfields2314  8 лет назад

      +Dawson Francis The first time I built mine it did not work. I cleaned everything with isopropyl alcohol, rubbing alcohol that you can purchase at a drug store, and got it to work. I also wore latex gloved when I cleaned everything and assembled it. It is possible that just a little grease from your fingers is enough conduction to drain the small amount of charge that builds up on the can.

    Will this work in a vacuum of theres no N2and O2?

    • @electricandmagneticfields2314
      @electricandmagneticfields2314  6 лет назад

      For the configuration I have, where the can becomes positively charged, the electrons from the can could still emit from the frayed wire end, where the electric field is high enough to pull electrons off the wire tips, and transport through the vacuum to the outside surface of the rubber band. The problem in a vacuum would be at the lower end where the electrons are removed from the outside surface of the rubber band. The frayed wire at the bottom is positively charged and this is where the high-electric field is. So N2 and O2 molecules are needed to supply the electrons because they have to be in the high-field region of the frayed wire. The field on the outside surface of the rubber band will be too low to pull electrons off the rubber band.

    sir i have a doubt
    is wire touches the belts which is connected to motor

    • @electricandmagneticfields2314
      @electricandmagneticfields2314  9 лет назад

      The wires, the one at the top near the glass tube and the one near the bottom by the motor, do not touch the belt--there is a small gap. The wire at the bottom is the ground. The ground wire does not have to be positioned at the bottom, it just needs to be away from the positively charged glass tube at the top.

    What happens if The brush and rubber band touch each other while the motor is working?

    • @electricandmagneticfields2314
      @electricandmagneticfields2314  8 лет назад

      +Ronnachai Mita When I get a chance I will try that. I think it should still work, at least initially. Eventually the wires scraping on the rubber band will scrape away enough rubber that you might have a gap and an insulator on the ends of your wire. Then it will probably stop working.

    does the tube have to be glass? and if so where would I find one?

    • @electricandmagneticfields2314
      @electricandmagneticfields2314  8 лет назад

      +Chase Tramble You want the band and tube to be as far apart as possible on a triboelectric chart to maximize transfer of electrons. Rubber and glass work well. You can obtain a glass tube by taking the ends off of a glass fuse by using a soldering iron to melt the solder holding the metal end caps on the glass . You can also get a pipette, scribe and break it, to get a glass tube. I have used both.

      If you are thinking of having it upside down with the soft drink can in the water you would have a current. The charge would not be able to accumulate on the soft drink can, it would just conduct away because of the water. The current would be very small. If instead of a soft drink can I used a small metal sphere of radius 9 cm, the capacitance would be 10 pF. (The capacitance of the soft drink can would be similar.) So charged to 10,000 V there would only be 1x10 e-7 C on the sphere.

      It doesn't take much leakage to prevent the charge from building up. Was it humid the day you tried? Make sure the material your can is resting on is highly resistive.

      What do you mean by hughly resistive

      Right now is rainy day, so i therfore that the environment is humid.

      For instance you might think wood is an insulator, but there can be enough surface leakage, especially if it is humid, to drain the charge off faster than it can accumulate.

    Simplify !!! Plus: the real Van gennie had 3 one way caps inline and 2 spark gaps: small gap on top large gap and balls on bottom fyi. Also...lol, the REAL Van Gennie never had a motor it used gravity.

      Kelvin's electrostatic water dropper generator used gravity,
      ruclips.net/video/Y7MJbZTjKyo/видео.html
      and was the inspiration for later generator's like Van de Graaff's. In fact Kelvin suggested the use of a belt.
      Van de Graaff's first generator used a motor,

      Michael Melloch: also what you might detect like I did with both Tesla's public "patents", (LOL and I laugh because the patent office is SOOO CORRUPT IT SHOULD BE A CRIME OH WAIT IT IS) and Graff, as well as Marconi, is that subtle changes have been made by either them or an imposter. Why, easy: for some reason the general public is being hidden from zero point and magnetic free energy, not to be confused with electromagnetic or generated energy this is so much different. Reference Ralph Ring consciousness and eather technology, You Tube, as one example IF YOU can understand it like we do.

    • @TheRealKalEll
      @TheRealKalEll 6 лет назад

      Michael Melloch: re Van Dur Graff. Yes, but illuminate the motor and transformer and ONLY THEN do u have Graffs ORIGINAL zero point energy device. Somehow, I suspect military tampering, his ideas have been altered in such a way where they now need an external power source to make any of the devices operate. Well, they were not originally designed that way in fact someone has altered most of them, someone with a LOT of resources. Same with Tesla Marconi Edison etc. Like the saying goes: DO NOT BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ on the Internet.

      Any leakage can prevent charge from building up. Clean everything with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. Wear latex gloves so you don't get anything off your fingers which would be conducting, on any of the parts.

    • @electricandmagneticfields2314
      @electricandmagneticfields2314  7 лет назад

      I have not tried, but it should make your hair stand up. It does not hurt, you can barely feel the spark. The reason is the capacitance is low, so even at 10,000V the amount of charge is so low you barely feel it.

      In the video I incorrectly quote the breakdown strength of air as 10kV per cm. It is actually 30kV per cm. Of course it probably depends on the humidity being lower as the humidity goes up. So breakdown occurred when my finger was about 1 cm from the can. If the electric field was uniform between the can and my finger, which it isn't, that would translate into a voltage of 30kV. So I think an estimate of at least 10kV is correct.

    ok great! now the human body is 60 percent water... so when a hydrogen molecule looses its only electron it just becomes a proton. this accumulation of these protons is acid. acid chemestry is just as important to good health as is base chemestry, however an over accumulation of hydrogen molecules that have los their only eectron can cause an imbalance in our body chemestry. known as pH or poential of hydrogen.
    pH is the measurement of the chage balance in our body fluid systems... or the potential of the hydrogen molecules.
    the scale runs from 0 to 14 in base 10 with 0 or something very near to 0 being very acidic and or a very large accumulation of hydrogen molecules that have lost their only electron... or acid and 14 being very caustic or and accumulation of molecules that have extreemly large numbers of accumulated electron charge.
    by observation pure electron charge is benifical to the body as is north pole magnetism into the skin and pure proton or positive charge is not so benificial to our fluid chemistry systems for the above explained reason.
    the standard american diet tends to be proton heavy or acidic... to much over prossed foods which acidify our body chemestry. cookies, cake, candy soda pop, processed white flour, ect...
    causing an acid imbalance in our body chemestry.
    so to make a vdg generator that produces an accumulation of electrons at the top dome is much more benificial than a vdg generator that accumulates extra proton charge at the top load.
    for more detil see thomas kim channel on how to make both a positive or negative vdg and also google pyroenergen for more indepth look into the health benifits of negative static charge.
    also the importance of earth grounding here on yt and the www. its best to get our energy from nature and from vitalized food not from some electro mechanical device...
    polyphenols are fancy electron donors in fruits and vegtables and earth minerals are also important electron donors to keep our cells running at their peak operating voltage.

    Why does humidity affects the working of generator?

    • @electricandmagneticfields2314
      @electricandmagneticfields2314  6 лет назад

      Humidity will cause moisture on surfaces. Even surfaces of insulators like, wood, cardboard, PVC, etc. will become conducting. The result is that charge will flow off, such as charge on the can in my generator, before it can build up.
