    I just wanna say, i really really love your conversations about how men treat lesbians. So i’m bisexual, but i am further on the butch side. I actually have only dated one woman when i was younger and only men since. (No reason other than i’m scared of people not actually being attracted to me and it’s a lot less likely with a man lol) But men that i meet, that i don’t particularly know well, 100% assume i’m a lesbian. I’ve had people tell me this, but i’ve also been able to tell even when they haven’t asked. And yes. They treat me so badly. Like i’m wasting their time even breathing around them. I never put this connection together (they assume i’m lesbian + men treat lesbians poorly) until i started watching this pod.
    Also just the concept of being treated like a man by women when you’re thought of as a lesbian.

      Idk what my sexual orientation actually is aside from "currently I have a boyfriend" lol but I have noticed people see me as "probably a lesbian" and I feel like it benefits me sometimes. • @pinheadlarry2921
      @pinheadlarry2921 Год назад +1

      @@syd5380 It definitely goes both ways. I’ve had men refuse to even hold a conversation w me bc i’m not worth talking to, but i’ve also reaped the benefits of being left alone by men. Older men don’t seem to care though- or maybe they just don’t even realize lesbians exist idk. I’ve still been harassed by older men and was even stalked by a customer at my job once. So i think it depends on the men you’re interacting with for sure.

      @@pinheadlarry2921 You're so right about old guys, I have no idea what it is with them maybe their perception has over the years has been whittled down to just "I'm talking to a female person." I am trash with social cues and have eye contact issues so I don't notice it as much when I'm in a socializing-type of setting but I've definitely experienced guys straight up just not listening. I'm a landscaper and work with almost exclusively men and I'm wondering if I'd be listened to more if they perceived me as an "available woman." It's wild sometimes I'll be talking and I can straight up see that me speaking is not registering on their radar at all. It's kind of surreal.

    • @Cole_McGill
      @Cole_McGill Год назад +15

      @@plutonium2When talking to people, do you not include yourself in that conversation?
      When talking about something, do you not speak on your personal experience/how you experience said thing?
      Now, to address the "the woman is a comedian" part. Comedy is about finding humor in the things that you experience and often involves things that the audience may find relatable(although relatability isn't a requirement, just don't be out of touch). She deals with mental health issues and is neuro-divergent, so she's going to include that in her comedy. Her showing that she can openly talk(and even joke) about those things, shows people(who have might have those same, or similar, issues) that they can talk about those things and it makes them more comfortable doing so, is also destigmatizes the topic, allowing for healthier conversations about them.
      Now, to address the "She desperately needs to get thicker skin" part. She is not being sensative, whenever she is adressing her mental illness or neuro-divergence, she is being expressive and openly communicative. This part was just belittling and wasn't a legitimate criticism of Sarah.
      Finally, to address the "I'm getting exhausted with her mental illness and neurodivergence being everything she brings to any conversation" part.
      1. If it is exhausting you, don't watch, for your own well-being.
      2. She brings a lot more to conversations than her mental health and neurodivergence. She constantly is talking about her queerness, her childhood online experiences, and her other normal life experiences. Your hyperfocusing on those two specific aspects of her life and how she speaks about them. They don't permeate everything she does/talks about.
      I will not speculate on why you choose to focus on and exaggerate those parts of identity/their presence in her conversations, however, I will implore you to do some self-reflection and try to understand why you felt/feel the way did/do.
      Whatever the reason is, the sentiment is all the same. You don't want to hear about these things because you don't want to think about/deal with these things.
      Ironically that's more exhausting(to yourself and others) than what you were whining about.
      I hope your day goes well and you process what you need to.

    my high school had the worst pick me girls, because it was an art school where it was so frowned upon for girls to like mainstream music, dress girly, wear makeup, and have traditionally girly interests. the school was mostly girls, so the need for male validation was strong, and all the guys were put on such a pedestal. the same girlies who would constantly preach "be kind to everyone!" and post inspirational empathy quotes on their ig story would talk shit about me and my friends behind our backs, even though we were always nice to them, since we're girls girls and wanted to get along with everyone. I started dating my current boyfriend senior year, and he was quite popular at our school, and this one girl literally came up to me and said "so you're dating now? I can't believe he's dating you. I would've never imagined him with a girl like you. so interesting". her and my bf weren't even friends, they'd maybe spoken a couple of words during the entirety of high school, and she had never talked to me before that! 😂😭 it was just funny.

    I was a bit of a pick me girl in my younger years, I was never mean to girls for being feminine but I definitely have said that girls are too much drama. I had a narcissistic mother and a bully for a step mom so those relationships tainted my view towards girls in school and women into my early 20's and being neurodivergent didn't really help either. Once I went NC with my mom at 24 it was like a cloud decapitated and I could finally think for myself I've made some amazing female friends who have helped me in every facet of life. There's always a reason why people do the things they do so I don't think poorly of a pick me girl, she's been hurt by someone and will come around eventually.

    21:00 Sarah's explanation of people they grew up with is SO similar to how I acted from age 13 to 18 (roughly 2006- 2012ish ) as an assigned woman/girl/female person who was highly influenced by my highly Baptist Christian religious white cisgender hetero Pick-Me mother, and eldest sister who was also a pseudo parent and shares most of those same identities, but thankfully was slightly more progressive growing up, it was just in secret away from my religious mom, grandparents, and aunties. Not to mention the elder members of the cult we were raised in for several years. As who I am now, it's genuinely hard to remember what my mindset at that age was like (I'm also almost 30 like Sarah) since I have such intense self respect, boundaries, I'm also gay so I have ZERO desire to appeal to men aside from the little bit of brainwashing I'm stamping out that makes me want approval from cis men that I'm attractive, but that's almost gone lol

    (This is coming from a gay man, so don't come for me) I find it interesting that Sarah talks about how you can't just see the world in black and white but lump every man under the same umbrella and that if a man isn't a traditional straight man or "bro" he's not a real man. Like, no hate to Kendahl or Sarah, but even as a person who is about as far from a stereotypical man as you can get, it's a bit frustrating that they treat everything a woman says or does as a result of seeking male approval, or every instance of a woman being a bad person is an example of internalized misogyny somehow. Maybe it's just me, but idk as many gay men who hate women as I do gay women who hate men.

    Another show, Willow a sequel series to the movie Willow where the baby is all grown up, main characters have a gay kiss in the first episode, and the plan is to have 3 seasons but the 2nd is cancelled.
    Then theres all the marvel lies and de-aging of LGBTQ characters as their way of avoiding the subject.
    Video games have more consistent representation and even main characters like Last of Us and Horizon and various indie games like Sayonara Wild Hearts and The Missing: J.J. Macfield and the Island of Memories

    Throwback to kpop stans calling IVE's Wonyoung a pick-me girl because
    - she's pretty
    - she's popular
    - she adopts cutesy mannerisms
    And it begged the question, do any of these people know what pick-me behavior is? (Of course not)

    I have so many complicated feelings about Stupid Girls by P!nk. Obviously, it didn't age well but the message was very relevant to the rampant over-sexualization of young women in the media at the time. The attack was misdirected, for sure-- but I think there's a lot of nuance to the song's impact in pop culture. NOW, the dramatized purging?? Fully bad in every way, regardless of context.

      Pink was a second wave feminist and now she’s more intersectional. That’s really the best she could do.

    I read the original script for Legally Blonde, and it definitely did not have as strong of a feminist message as the final film.

    Animal Crossing girlie ✌️ its the only game I've really been so into. My husband got it during Covid and I have since commandeered it. I am now going for finishing all of the Nook Miles achievements.

    im so glad u guys were critical of how "pick mes" have just become another way to make fun of women. I was really scared from just the title😅 its especially bad when men do it like.. this is literally ur fault thats the whole point??? also u kept relating it to urself then being like well thats just bc i was gay lol and like!! its literally just a new way for people to make fun of lesbians, trans afabs and neurodivergent girls who are LITERALLY not like other girls!!!!!!!
