My ex was a Kingy guy & I lived in Caba for a while. The whole region is beautiful. Tweed Valley, hinterlands behind Byron... magic with so much beauty. I do miss a lot of the life there. Up in Bundy now.
Pity about the over dense development that’s gone on over the past 25 odd years. Housing crawling up obliterating the forest in the hinterland valleys, massive traffic on the M1 ( not easy to avoid if you need to move North/South) & other roads. Yes, compared to many American cities that combination of beach, waterways , rain forest & eucalypt clad hills is rare but remember: Australia’s total population is 26,000,000. The USA what? 10 times that? The USA has incredibly beautiful places too but they are now oft times full of people all the time, making it harder perhaps to appreciate the beauty & nature that exists there too.

For the most part, flying fox bats like to eat fruit. That is why many people call fruit bats. People like me who love fruit can also be called fruit bats as well. They may look big and scary, but you don't need to think that they'll take your children away. A couple of years ago, we had one that took up residence in our guava tree. We didn't touch it, and it clearly didn't have a problem with us. My sister thought that it may have come from the local bat hospital. So she rang them. A man who works there came around and recognised it. So he took it away to release it somewhere else. On the subject of fruit, I once surprised an American couple with a RUclips channel. During a live chat, I mentioned that I was eating some stone fruit. They had no idea what I meant. Stone fruit is a general term for peaches, nectarines, plums, etc. Due to how the seeds look. There's some in our fridge, I think I'll go and get some after watching this video.

The QLD Gold Coast, Surfers Paradise and Sunshine Coast was not developed on US Miami Beach but mostly on the California vibes but it was promoted like Miami there were small coastal towns already established and some military training camps from WWII. The goal was to develop the shore line of the whole of QLD/NSW coast to be fantastic holiday spot.
Sadly has pretty much happened from NSW Border north to Noosa. Now just one big Metropolis & individual character of the townships & beach holiday vibes previously existent, pretty much wiped out. Too much traffic, congestion & loss of natural habitat. What you see now is just remnants. I’ve watched the demise of much of SE QLD region over the past 35 years as many cashed up Sydney siders & Victorians picked up & moved or “ investing” in only ever partially occupied second homes , sending real estate prices escalating out of the price ranges of locals. Hence in Noosa & elsewhere, restaurants may open only for less than half the week or not at night because the wait & kitchen staff who work there can’t afford to live there & have to commute long times/distances. Ditto many other service staff including teachers, nurses, other essential workers. QLD is beautiful but daily living is costly. This couple are travelling because they can afford to; the husband having quit a ( probably well paid) job at NASA? 🤔

I’m just going to say that Byron Bay is in Northern New South Wales and Snapper Rocks is literally on the border of NSW AND QLD. I lived at Palm Beach QLD for 25 years and being from Sydney, where the beaches and little bay’s such as Lurline Bay where I grew up with the locals was the best childhood memories. I then moved to DC and I was absolutely blown away by the beauty of DC and the Museums, the Smithsonian Museum is the best! I came home with my daughter who has dual citizenship, going back to Lurline Bay, I looked at my Dad and said “We were so fearless as kids” he was like “yeah I know and being a shark nursery you kids were crazy”. Any American people should know that our dollar is so weak against the US dollar you get a 40% discount on EVERY DOLLAR. COME ON DOWN 😊
Ironically before the Aussie $ was deregulated ( a very long time ago), I travelled 10 weeks on the USA & got USD$1.25 for every AUD$1.00. Certainly helped me have a good time there… but now just USD$0.66 rough average exchange rate for every AUD$1.00… makes America expensive for an Aussie to travel. 😟
@@YvettefromAus Yep, goes up & down like a yo-yo & probably on quite arbitrary criteria usually within the 0.60 - 0.70 Cent range. The trouble when you travel to the US is that prices advertised for any kind of purchases don’t include State Sales Tax, Tips to the underpaid workers, or card related fees if you don’t pay with cash. You need to include a big contingency $wise into your travel budget to cater for all of that. “Good prices” can quickly become “ not so good prices” for almost everything. 😟
@ I was married and living in Maryland so, I remember how good it is, the taxes did do my head in but at least here, our 10% GST sales tax is included in the price, still so much more than what you guys pay.
Great podcast have subscribed, western Australia is also a beautiful place. Thank you for the time and effort you put into your podcasts and I love your positivity well done. Love and best wishes from Australia, have a great Christmas and New Year 💐 be kind to each other.
Interesting, they just stuck in South East Queensland....excellent. As a born and bred Queenslander of 70+ years I have to say I agree with everything they're saying, and I'm gratified they enjoyed all the good things, didn't just visit coffee shops and restaurants. I spent my 20s and 30s travelling overseas - I even spent 8 years living in the US in the 1970s, but I haven't had any urge to leave since my last trip. This is paradise compared to Europe, Asia and the USA.......NZ and Canada are great though.
Family oriented travel with toddlers. Their focus is different and they appreciated the options available to their kids. Only 3 weeks to visit. Basing in one region was a good idea for them. 👍
Yes, Aussies who haven’t travelled much can easily take what Australia offers, for granted. Having said that, I appreciate the great beauty and hospitality I’ve experienced in many countries overseas as well. We live on a beautiful planet which really needs us humans to work hard and innovatively to keep it that way. All of us around the world. You don’t miss your water, until the well’s run dry…
I've never thought the gold coast was anything like Miami. Maybe the comparison relates to all the high rise on the coast. Miami gave me a weirdly dark, unsafe vibe and I couldn't wait to leave.
Nice video... just wish there was more footage of the things they were describing rather than just shots of the couple and verbal descriptions of awesome things.
I'm sure people get it elsewhere in the world, but the sunsets during the spring/summer period can be really quite spectacular (even better if you're outside of the city). Golden yellow hues that mix with deep purples and pinks as the sky changes at dusk. It can be quite spectacular to walk outside in the evening on a fairly clear sky day, to see the entire sky lit up purple and pink (doesn't last for long, but still, mother nature doing her thing). This is a decent example, but it looks more stunning in person ruclips.net/user/shorts65bLA_ea2pc
Neal, you need to get yourself and Mackenzie down here, you'll love it (but you also might not want to leave, so be warned), though this video was about the beautiful Brisbane area, Mackenzie said in one of your videos she like cooler weather, so you should plan a trip to Tasmania first, then somewhere like Thredbo in August so hopefully you get to see kangaroos in the snow.
Even here in the outer eastern suburbs of melbourne I see Kangaroos in local parks very often. They are not a threat at all unless you seem like a threat to them too.
The Gold Coast was not built to be like Miami. . Besides you have only been to one state. Don’t generalise! Besides the surfing is all around the coast of Australia millions of surf beaches. Those sand dunes are nothing compared to the gigantic dunes we have.
No point in moving to Australia unless you're a multi millionaire. Then you could afford a 2 bedroom apartment. Asia will give you more bang for your buck.
Aussie parents? If their kid had a mishap like that? Would be concerned about their kid, of course. But i feel that we would not get "elevated". We'd just go to the dentist, if it was needed. And that would be the end of it. We Aussies are a tough breed, for the most part.
So glad they're having a lovely time. They're doing better than me. Lived here all my life, grew up near the Beach and I've never seen a Whale. Yes the Kangaroos are all laid back, they don't generally bother People unless you try to get up really close to them, then they'll get agro. Haha they mightn't like it so much if they went in the middle of the outback. Snakes, Scorpions and giant Lizards and dry as a Bone.

@ it actually was at $0.62AUD the other day!! Good for America but bad for Australia.
You need a year to see this beautiful land. It's big, diverse, and very spectacular. From the deserts to the mountains to the seas. 🇦🇺
Great podcast have subscribed, western Australia is also a beautiful place. Thank you for the time and effort you put into your podcasts and I love your positivity well done. Love and best wishes from Australia, have a great Christmas and New Year 💐 be kind to each other.
All ower friends from the U.S .A are welcome to come to Australia .
We love the people in the U S A . 😊.
The tRump voters might learn something ;)
NO!! No conservative voting Americans !!!
@@lynmcgrow9246what you can't put politics aside for anything what happened to liberals being inclusive your a bunch of small minded haters
Speak for yourself _ I hate them.
I live on the Gold Coast, they are so correct. I have travelled the world and recognise that we live in paradise here in Aussie.
Dreamteam Neal .... you need to try surfing... put it on your bucket list when you come to Australia ... people will help you ❤❤
I hope they didn't miss the South Coast of Australia down from Sydney! amazing amazing !❤
You should checkout the One Pack Wonders. They did the complete loop of Australia.
I've never thought the gold coast was anything like Miami. Maybe the comparison relates to all the high rise on the coast. Miami gave me a weirdly dark, unsafe vibe and I couldn't wait to leave.
Spanish mackerel is my absolute favourite fish 😋
you in my home town try cabba
And Crimson Rosellas-- I never get tired of that.
When are you and your family coming to visit us in Oz, Neal? 😀
Omfg , where have you been mate. I've fukn missed you ❤😂🎉
Even here in the outer eastern suburbs of melbourne I see Kangaroos in local parks very often.
They are not a threat at all
unless you seem like a threat to them too.
Bruh they came back to oz
We love Americans in Australia come down and move here plenty of work and medical is for everyone see you soon.
you looking at fingal
Why wouldn't they want to stay. Better life better health system better. Great weather great people.
Melbourne I'm winter is awful, American health care is excellent too you just need insurance.
@glennoc8585 What about the one's that can't afford insurance in Australia we have Universal Health care
RIP Steve Irwin Our true Croc Dundee🙏🙏🙏
The Gold Coast was not built to be like Miami. . Besides you have only been to one state. Don’t generalise! Besides the surfing is all around the coast of Australia millions of surf beaches. Those sand dunes are nothing compared to the gigantic dunes we have.
Australia's is big with a small population so there are more beaches then people can use. You won't have to look hard for a gorgeous empty beach.
Dtn you like to eat .Australia and new Zealand meat and fruit is the best.
No point in moving to Australia unless you're a multi millionaire.
Then you could afford a 2 bedroom apartment.
Asia will give you more bang for your buck.
It's am unfortunate part of life I'm Australia now and many other countries. California is even more expensive than Australia now.
I live in the hills outside of Melbourne
right now
and I am selling up to move to the Tablelands in Queensland.
Good luck
Aussie parents? If their kid had a mishap like that? Would be concerned about their kid, of course.
But i feel that we would not get "elevated". We'd just go to the dentist, if it was needed.
And that would be the end of it.
We Aussies are a tough breed, for the most part.
"Sounds"
kingscliff not goldie
And you dont go bankrupt if you need medical help.
Alright Neil. I'll marry you mate. No touchy feely, but I'll get you here. 😂😂
AN̈D they went back for more.
And they only saw the tip of the ice berg,,,,,,
Yeah they met me. I'm addictive.
Obviously haven't been to Western Australia.
They definitely sold Australia.
Don’t think cause our wildlife is cute that they won’t kill ya
Well they missed the best parts, just went to the crowded places and below average spots, sorry gold coast
Mate, you should come here. I should go there! Wanna swap places?
Perth
Hint...stop saying dang so much
The only reason the Fruit Bats don't snatch up your kids, is because they are fruit-eaters, babies are more like Veal...lol.
