Mella Fourie the perosn who put their chinchilla in a travel carrier obviously didn’t do their research. If they really did the correct amount of research they would get everything ready before purchasing the chinchilla

lowbugethamilton I agree, if your going to get a chinchilla, then you need to put in time and effort to research and buy them the stuff that they need. If you don’t do those things then your just making your chinchilla live in a poorly life style and it won’t live as much probably

!ATTENTION CHIN OWNERS!
Please do NOT use any paper bedding. If the chinchilla ingests it it will expand in their stomach and can cause blockages, bloat, and then death. If you decide to use a loose bedding it has to be Aspen shavings or if need be Kiln dried pine shavings but that is it. Everything aside from those and fleece and tile are extremely dangerous for them. Hope thats helpful!
I'm glad someone else knows this. I was very concerned seeing all the paper/expanding bedding in all of these cages
I don’t know if I’m being stupid or not because I’m looking at getting chinchillas and doing the most research I can so is Carefresh okay or not??
@@cryst4lm00n3 You aren't stupid it's okay! Carefresh or any of that bedding that bedding generally used for hamsters is not good for chinchillas. Like the original poster stated, if your chinchilla ingests any of that bedding it will swell inside them. That's the whole point of the bedding: to absorb all the moisture. However, swelling inside your chinchilla can cause blockages and can lead to death. Your best route would be to use either pine bedding or fleece. The smell of pine blocks out the smell of chinchilla pee well, but it can be quite messy as your chin can kick it out of the cage. Fleece is great because it is neat and looks nice, but I find myself having to change his fleece more often then I did when I had pine bedding because it doesn't block the odor too well!
Jacob Lang yeah I decided that I was gonna use fleece about an hour ago cos I was just sitting in absolute silence like “I should probably do the safest thing” which is probably fleece aha

Exactly like I spend hours on Amazon making sure the dimensions of everything is good and making sure there's no plastic
@@annayako7992 EXACTLY. I don't have much money so when I rescued my two chins, I bought a tall, empty cage, and hand made the ledges and all three of the levels. I used an old wooden boom box as there little hid out, it's big and has two circular openings which they love to poke there heads out of and stare at me for treats. I bought a chin spin and they have a tunnel coming out of the bottom of there cage where they can go in and out of the cage to a play pen. My two chins' name's are Sheik and Sheva and I pour my heart into them.

I have been watching you since a few months ago and just yesterday we got a 3 year old chinchilla from someone who had it sitting in a dark room eating guinea pig food and very unhealthy treats. we are getting him a four foot tall cage and a bunch of chinchilla toys and food. He is scared of humans and we are getting him to trust us. Thank you for setting us in the right direction.

Question- if you have two chinchillas, and only one wheel, will they fight over it? Is it best to buy two wheels?
Can just have 1 they won’t fight
It really just depends on your chinchillas if they are a little mean or sometimes play around roughly then it can cause fights but I mean it all depends on you and your thought and how your chinchillas react and also how long have they been sharing a wheel?

Y, they won’t fight but it might be good to get another wheel (you don’t need to).

Im using a big metal dog crate with fleece on the bottom and I have a hammock, hideouts, lava rocks, salt rocks, toys etc and im adding ledges. Im only using it for a young chinchilla until I can get my cage in about a week

Anyways, I have wanted a chinchilla ever since I was 2 and my parents never let me get one since they said it was to much work. They are finally letting me get one because I had a parrot that died of some sort of parasite that we didn't catch soon enough and they felt bad. I'm 12 now btw. I'm so excited! I'm gonna name it Tofu! I'm also going to put shelves and ledges into my old bird cage (The bird cage is HUGE, It takes up so much space and it's quite tall) so I can put Tofu in it. Oop I also gotta say that I'm getting him from our local chinchilla rescue! :D

Merlin’s so hyper today lol I’m not sure if you saw the vid but there was a basement remodel for a family with 7 chinchillas. Their “cage” looks amazing! But basically the main problems I feel you’re spotting are the cage sizes and the wrong wheels :/

I'm have been looking to get a chinchilla for a couple of years now and the breeder I messaged is going to send me photos of some Black velvets and mosaics soon so of course, I have been looking at cages but I was wondering if you thought the Ferret Nation model 182 cage, Also if you think a toy poodle would be okay to have in the same room, toy is a size which means she is about 5 lb's and just lays on my bed all day but just wondering if that might cause issues.

Chinchillas can't have any fresh plants. They are completely unsafe! They can have dried but only certain ones.😊

This question is not related to cage issues. Sorry. But I have several Chinchillas and when I clean the room they are in, regardless if I use a broom or vacuum, Chinchilla hair floats like feathers that makes it hard to clean, any suggestions????

Hi, I may or may not be getting a chin but I`m looking at a 4 level cage is that good enough?
I would just like to give everyone a tip on the swings (for example the green swing on the top at 14:05). If you're chinchilla starts biting off the black thick stirpe around the edges, there's a possibilitie that it will try and jump through the space between the green part of the swing and the black stripe. Unfortunately, that is how my chinchilla died, she got stuck and hanged herself on accident.

Hi! I’m about to adopt two chinchillas in July (next month) my cage is ready and everything... the only problem I have is that the two chinchillas ARENT bonded yet. But I heard you have to have 2 cages and put them beside each other to get used to each other... I’m getting them on the same day and don’t have money and room for another cage... is it bad if I put them together in a cage from day one?
I think your best option is to find some way to divide the cage. The most important thing to do it to make sure the chins cant reach eachother to fight.

Hey so, I noticed that one of the people you told had to small of of a cage they wrote on the top that they were sorry it was small but they had a small house, See I also have a small house so if I were to get one it would probs be small, Not everybody has room for a critter nation.

There are cheaper ones but you want to try to get the biggest one and also some chinchillas can cost more that just that cadge

My two chins has a plastic hut on the bottom and then on the top there’s a tree trunk, they are plastic but they love it. They sometimes sleep on top of it

Tazyxoxo I don’t know if they climb bars because mine are to far apart because I don’t wanna take the chances. I think they might if they get too bored or not enough stuff. They do lean up on it when stretching or when you walk by or you are getting them food.
6:18, are those blue ramps plastic or metal? if it is plastic do I need to put something over them or remove them from the cage? pleaseee somebody tell me because Ive been watching you for a long time, and ive seen the same cages with the blue ramps and I have no idea if there plastic or metal somebody help!!!
It looks like the blue fleece ramp covers that come with the critter/ferret nation. From what I can see, that’s what they are and they’re safe as long as it’s fleece covering it 💕

Why fleece to cover the plastic? Is it so that they don’t chew the plastic?
It’s also their bedding. Their pee needs somewhere to go so the fleece and the towel underneath it absorb the pee. That way they aren’t stepping and sleeping on wet pee all the time😊💕
My chinchilla got its leg removed because aprently I didn’t they can’t have these metal barred stairs (so the problem is why doesn’t my chinchilla use his flying saucer?
the thing is my chinchilla sleeps most the day and at night he likes to stay under a platform i have for him
The only problem with the small cage with the three month old is that they are growing 24/7. Another thing is that the smaller cage 5:04 well that cage is actually a good size because one chinchilla doesn't need that huge cage the feisty ferret and critter nation. But I do prefer a big cage like my Feisty Ferret!

Hey quick question, how often do you clean your chinchilla's cage? I clean mine once a week but was wondering if it should be more.
I do every 3 days to prevent my chins from stepping on the poops often and getting bacteria in their feet. (From a random small scratch on their feet, if that ever happens)

Chinchillas naturally poop alot. It can increase depending on how much food they eat and the amount and kind of treats you give. They should eat 1-2 tablespoons for food and at most 1 treat a day. Treats should not be commercial or ANY fruits, veggies, wheat, and oat product. Exceptable treats are stuff like rose hips and goji berries
First Name Last Name A plastic wheel is not a very good option really as it’s toxic for chins I got mine from a bad home and they had one of those wheels they are definitely too small for them I would also say that the middle part of the wheel (the bump thing 😂 in the middle) is really bad as it causes chinchillas to arch their backs in order to fit in the wheel as it’s already too small which can be really bad later on I would recommend a chin spin as they are the correct material and the right size hope this was helpful x
