As a Chinese person, let me explain the tradition. When a woman is married to a man, she is marrying INTO his family. So in serving the tea to the husband's parents, she is showing respect to his parents and asking to be accepted into the family. In return, the parents welcome the bride by drinking the tea she serves them. Thereby getting official approval in front of everyone and sealing the marriage. The red envelope is just a gift of money. I don't think it has always been the tradition to hand out money, but it has been for hundreds of years. As you may know Chinese history is thousands of years old.
Thank you. I remember different episodes of finding your roots where different Chinese related celebrities had their DNA supported by that extreme written history. The broadcaster "Lisa ling" stands out with some distant relative saving a town flooding by getting folks to gather up old clothes to stop it. Happened over a thousand years ago. The clothes worked.
This is called "認親儀式“ Reng Qing Yi Shi" meaning " the Ceremony of Recognizing Close Relatives." It applies to the groom too, so the groom need to get on knees ( or stand and bow if they are Christian or maybe Muslims) and offer tea (sweet water or sweet soft drink in my case) to the Bride's parents when the wedding is holding in the Bride's home. And the parent or parents in law will also gift something in return like money in red pocket, ring or gold necklace depending on the wish of the gifters. And it doesn't stop there, the bride & groom still need to do that to all the seniors too like grand parents, auntis and uncles and even big sister and brother ( without kneeing ofc since they are the same generation). And while the Bride and Groom are doing that they need to address them as a family member, like bride's mom as mom, bride's dad as dad( note: not Father-in-law or Mother in law), Grandma, Grandpa, aunti and uncle etc.,.. And all the juniors of the bride like little brothers, little sisters nieces and nephews ...need to do that to the Bride and Groom like too, ofc since the bride and groom are not too old or too senior in rank, all the juniors just need to stand up, bow down and address the bride and groom as the family member, like " brother-in-law ( note: not brother)" or "uncle" respectively. And then the bride & groom need to gift them with something in return and that is mostly money in red pocket. But only those are close relative or family members need to do this ritual, not friends or distant relatives of the bride. And after that ritual, the groom is officially one member of the bride's family.
@@Daren_PNW With thousand of years, these traditions are already in the DNA of us, not in a couple of temples. BTW, I'm a third generation Myanmar Chinese who was born, raised and lives in in Myanmar.
I think this is more traditional Chinese wedding. I saw a lot of weddings don't have the tea part. It also depends on the region. Where they live is close to the center of the Chinese culture, close to Xi'An (Chang'An) which was the capital of China during Qin, Han and Tang dynasties.
I once was heard playing the piano by a Chinese man and Ugandan girl who were soon getting married. They asked me if I would play the piano at their wedding and agreed. It was the most interesting and most wonderful wedding I had ever experienced with all due respect to my brother and his wedding. The way the families got on so well together was so wonderful to see and when the Chinese groom saw his bride appear in her wedding dress and I started playing the piano, tears started rolling down his eyes which was so beautiful to see. He later jokingly blamed me for the tears, telling me he was so happy and emotional to see his bride appear and could keep his emotions under control, but when I started playing the piano the music tipped him over board and he could not hold back the tears. We, meaning I and the bride and groom could not stop laughing about it afterwards. I have never forgotten that day and never saw them again as they moved to the Netherlands, but the memory of that wedding remains a special moment in my life that happened by chance I will never forget. They were so good and so beautiful together and I often wonder what they are doing today. For sure they would have had children, they got on so well together and looked so relaxed and in love and trusting of each other. I know she wanted children. Great stuff as always. Peace and love
I've watched the video. I'm following her sister "felia country wife" on Facebook and RUclips. She is from Tanzania married to a Chinese and lives in china with her husband and two kids. Felia and her husband went to Tanzania for holiday and brought her elder sister Lawu back to China. Felia arranged a blind date for her "Lawu" sister that leads to marriage. Congratulations to them and loves conquered all

Just a little correction to your story.. it’s not that the sister didn’t like the first guy (he is the god brother of sister’s friend so of course the sister didn’t have an issue with the match). It’s that she herself didn’t feel a connection so the match didn’t work out. Then they looked for another potential husband and this second time it worked out. I thought the first guy she was matched with was a really nice guy but maybe the problem was he was too enthusiastic and came on too strong. He invited her to meet his family only minutes after meeting her. And you can see she was so shy she couldn’t even make eye contact with him.
Love is when spirits meet. I say this because love is not about material things. It's something sometimes unspoken but meant so deeply that it's spiritual.

I enjoy your vid's. I'm not against mix marriages when it's of true love, I follow Felia with her son and daughter. I am concerned with the on going practice of Asian men marrying African women who's family has land, wealthy we can say. Sometimes the husband go back home and the wife never sees him again until he wants to pleasure himself and pregnats her. I've found that after marrying these ladies they will end up dead. And it's not just the Asian men doing this. Is it really marriage for love or for their possession lefted by the parents?.
The African women marrying these men r nothing closing to rich. Pls. Rich african girls hardly marry Chinese. And rich african girls traditionally only marry within their social class with their tribe usually. It is a very recent trend to see rich african girls date or marry out. Chinese is out of it for most but it will eventually happen. But not common at all now.
Am all for intercultural and interacial marriages, but where i draw the line is the case where parents in laws are against the union and yet the couple insist on going ahead with the marriage out of "love" for each other. No. I would advice that kind of union be dissolved. Doesn't make sense to me. If your family rejects me, i won't marry you. Simple.
So does this mean she didn’t ask for 400,000 yuan Dowery and two houses and 10,000 down 10,000 yuan monthly allowance and a new car every year unlike the unmarried women in China? It seems women that only want to marry for love and care are being picked up by men that may not have a house several thousand you want for dowery and monthly allowance ❤

Love has no bandry
Such nonsense. You obiously don't know anything about my country.
