A yarn winder should be a mandatory tool for fiber crafters. I have been crocheting for a while and just got one. It has made a huge difference in getting organized!!

Make sure you wind them twice so the elasticity isn’t ruined, I learned this the hard way 💕

Don’t forget to save your labels so you can remember specific colors, weight, or brands! I just fold it up and stick it in the middle of the cake. After buying different brands/colors, I’ve regretted not knowing which is which.

Looks very neat. I collect partial skeins and when I have enough I wind them into large cakes and make baskets or scrapghans with them. I keep 2 baskets near my yarn winder, one for cotton DK and one for acrylic Dk and throw the scraps in as I go along and when the basket is looking full I wind it up. I have a large Stanwood winder now and two large skeins can be used for a cake.

what is a good use of your yarn winder is to create cakes of multicoloured yarns...this is good when you have balls that are to small on their own but are still useful..I thin use the cakes for scrap blankets...
I have two yarn winders, but alas they are packed away because I moved house last year, and have not come across them as yet..it is so tempting to go buy another one, but I shouldn't..

Will be winding up every skein I own now
it's actually better for yarn to be stored in skein form as opposed to cakes cause it stretches the fibers out. If you're planning on keeping the yarn stored long term before using it I'd leave it in skeins until you're ready to knit with it or cake it loosely :)

Where do you get your milk cotton yarns? :)
I get mine on a Dutch online store, but i’m pretty sure they only deliver to the Netherlands :(
