  • Ever see a fighter keel over from a perfectly placed liver shot? It’s all about the setup - open up their guard and touch that liver using these strategies:
    1. Fake The Right (+ Lead Body Hook/Uppercut)
    2. Bas Liver Kick (Fake Lead Hook + Left Body Kick)
    3. Pin The Guard (Slapping Left Hook + Lead Body Hook/Uppercut)
    4. Back Kick (After a Low Kick)
    And of course the side kick; apparently they work.

      I've been hit with a proper liver shot once and I'll never forget it, was the weirdest thing. You think you're fine for like a second after the shot then you experience this shock and your whole body just shuts down putting you on the floor. Still conscious but completely immobile, it's like paralysis

    I was drunk play fighting with a friend a while back before I got into Muay Thai. He hit me with a left hook to the ribs and dropped me, and I instantly yelled time out. That was how I discovered that the "liver shot" is a thing. Couldn't understand how a body shot could hurt so bad, even a fairly light shot from a little dude.

    Never had the joy of experiencing one of these. Two questions:
    1. After you 'recover' how close to 100% are you?
    2. Does the effect linger, making subsequent liver shots even more effective even if they're not as hard?

    • @fighttips
      @fighttips  2 года назад +8

      1. You feel tingly, but awake. Low abdomen discomfort can linger. But you can get back to 100% after a few minutes.
      2. Yes, definitely. Trauma to the liver causes it to inflame, so subsequent hits agitate it more.

    One of my first big recognitions of pain was taking a nicely placed liver shot (fainted front kick turned into a tight ball-of-the-foot round kick) in a karate class.

  • @scottrichardson1014
    @scottrichardson1014 2 года назад +3

    Huge fan of the body shot. A slick fighter with good head movement can be slowed down with accurate body shots. The shots if not fight enders will sap the wind and drain the energy as the body tries to deal with them. I have used a combination of body shots on Philly shell fighters and quick twitch fighters. Set up is king as with most punches. The head movement slows after a few land and the hands drop to deal with the pain this leaves opening for head shots. One that was left out is the knee strike. We trained it close in with rotation and thrust just before a clinch or on the break of a clinch. Keeping the knee high enough to land effectively is paramount. Striking hips is less than ideal. One of the most devastating is that heal strike to the liver or lower rib cage. Having that last rib targeted and feeling like it just got broke off and shoved into something vital is a terrible feeling. Thanks for bringing back that memory ugh.
    Good stuff as always! Thanks for the refresher.

    Actually, Canelo very often swings his rear hand back to create more momentum and hit harder, he doesn't always do it like that but he does leave himself exposed a lot when he throws his hooks but he doesn't get countered because most of the time the opponent is shelling up after feeling his power.

    My trainer landed the first and clean liver shot on me and I could not breath for 3 seconds (due to pain) even though I tried hard. It was scary not to be able to breathe even though I was standing and put my arms up high standing in the corner of the ring. The body's reaction is not something you can fight against. It's like your body shuts down.

    I learned a good way and always works. Original right stance, switch to left stance against righty, then throw straight cross and rear round kick to side. It happens so fast they get hit with the cross and kick because they expect to get cross, reset then rear kick. But this setup has no reset after the cross.

    ive been hit near the liver, vomited and thought it was a liver shot. Turns out it ruptured my duodenum and my intestine juices were leaking out :( liver shots can be cool but make sure you do them with caution because you're not trying to kill your opponent or put them out of action1!1! #staysafekids

      If I have to put my hands on someone,then yeah I'm absolutely going for taking them out of action or dead,and as hard as I can,as fast as I can. Learning combat for sport is cool and all,but I trained to be able to prevent myself from being a victim of violence. If it's got to be me or the other guy,I'm doing anything it takes to be the one walking away. Hell I once had to bite a guys balls and caused permanent damage to them,as gross as that was,it was still better for me than had I not. They had the full mount on me and would have been able to beat my head in after a sec had I not chomped down on his boys. Now that I'm getting older and have less stamina,I am focused on the liver.

      straight up haha lost count of how many times someone shorter got on the inside and nailed me with overhands and shit. Shorter fighters don't be tying them selves in knots throwing combos at short-mid range and often get shots off way faster. Hey, Shane. I'm planning to buy a workout bag for home and I'm torn between 3 things: heavy bag, speed bag and Bob dummy. What's the best one in your opinion considering I have normal and heavy bags at the gym?

    • @danielmarx3458
      @danielmarx3458 2 года назад +12

      Even if you've got heavy bags at your gym, I'm still team heavy bag. Speedbag and Bob are fun but pretty niche and not nearly as valuable for overall training. The only plus of Bob is he's great for accuracy (and kinda fun), but he's not gonna be able to take the all-around wear and tear and beating of a heavy bag. Speed bags are cool and really good for conditioning your arms and shoulders, but you're gonna get little-to-no practice throwing actual punches or kicks with it.

      Right, it depends on your style/strategy. Are you a counter-fighter? Sniper? Mosquito? Aggressive? Either way, you need to understand footwork when it comes to range, angles, and timing.

    Oh its on the right side! Wait then what the hell hit me so hard on the left side??? I got hooked on the left side and i was fine for a few seconds and then a serious pain took over....its been 24 hours and i still cant breathe deeply or it hurts around my heart. Matter of fact...yea it feels like he hit him in the heart.
    It was weird that i couldnt even drink soda. Specially soda! Thw bubbles made me hiccup and the hiccups felt like my heart was bleeding. Yea no lie...it felt like something cold around my heart and then PAIN! curl up like a ball pain. Had go drop everything pain. Right in my heart. Wtf was that hit? Left side right under the ribcage on the side of my heart.
    Edit: i cant even laugh or it hurt. Feels like something dislocated in my heart. Can you dislocate heart valves? Maybe i should ask google instead and prepare for death.

    Honestly bud that’s the one that drops me I had my first sparring match with a pro last night and he hit me with two of them the first one I didn’t puke on and I held it down. The second one on the other hand tho. As the head gear was being taken off by my coach because I knew it was coming I covered him in puke. 😂 pretty embarrassing and 10/10 NEVER recommend
