    When Elizabeth heard the greeting from Mary she was filled with the Holy Spirit.
    “And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: and she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.”

    And the first words she spake in the Spirit were honor and praise to both Mary and Christ.
    Throughout all of Christian history, Mary has been highly honored and venerated . Luther agreed to this truth about the Theotokos as did the other Reformers.
    There can be no doubt that the Virgin Mary is in heaven. How it happened we do not know. And since the Holy Spirit has told us nothing about it, we can make of it no article of faith . . . It is enough to know that she lives in Christ.

    The veneration of Mary is inscribed in the very depths of the human heart.

    She is full of grace, proclaimed to be entirely without sin- something exceedingly great. For God's grace fills her with everything good and makes her devoid of all evil.

    Christ, our Savior, was the real and natural fruit of Mary's virginal womb . . . This was without the cooperation of a man, and she remained a virgin after that.

    John Calvin : Helvidius displayed excessive ignorance in concluding that Mary must have had many sons, because Christ's 'brothers' are sometimes mentioned.
    [On Matt 1:25:] The inference he [Helvidius] drew from it was, that Mary remained a virgin no longer than till her first birth, and that afterwards she had other children by her husband . . . No just and well-grounded inference can be drawn from these words . . . as to what took place after the birth of Christ. He is called 'first-born'; but it is for the sole purpose of informing us that he was born of a virgin . . . What took place afterwards the historian does not inform us . . . No man will obstinately keep up the argument, except from an extreme fondness for disputation.
    Under the word 'brethren' the Hebrews include all cousins and other relations, whatever may be the degree of affinity.

    The issue I have with the Catholic claim that "it's not worship" is that it identifies the act before defining worship.
    If we define worship before observing the act, it is always worship.

    The stone was not rolled away from the tomb to let Christ out. It was rolled away to reveal that it was empty.
    Read St. Jerome's treatise on the perpetual virginity of blessed Mary.

      If we take the foreshadowing theory, then Mary wouldn't remain a virgin.

      @@darthnocturnis3941 I'm not sure how you figure that.
      Consider this passage:
      "Then said the LORD unto me; This gate shall be shut, it shall not be opened, and no man shall enter in by it; because the LORD, the God of Israel, hath entered in by it, therefore it shall be shut." (Ezekiel 44:2).
      Is it likely that God would care more about a physical gate than he would about the womb by which God became incarnate?

      @@fr.johnwhiteford6194 I don't play the fluid contextual comparison method of exegesis. That's how we start getting the biblical instruction, "Judas went and hanged himself, go and do likewise, and what you do do quickly."
      The passage you mentioned has absolutely no relevance to the immediate comparison of the foreshadowing comparison with the tomb. If the foreshadowing is proper, then the "seal" would be removed to demonstrate that it was intact in both instances, yes? Otherwise, the foreshadowing logic doesn't hold water.

    Just a few points of clarification - there was never a mandated celibate priesthood in the East and there wasn’t in the West until the second Lateran Council in the 12th century. As to the fathers, it is the consensus of the fathers that informs dogma. That fact that a particular father disagrees with the consensus means absolutely nothing. None of the Apostolic Churches considers any father as infallible or singularly authoritative on any issue.
