If I know Who, then I can say yes without knowing why.
Do I have any conditions on my response to God? Will I pray or serve or say yes to Him as long as I understand why He is asking?

7 weeks ago our son Patrick was killed by a random shooter in Croquet, MN.
The only consolation I find is listening to St. Faustina's diary of Divine Mercy...where I have learned about..."Holy indifference "...that whether good or bad happens we Trust. Thank you Fr. Mike because that is what you are speaking of.

God please continue to protect me and my two children. Father keep me encouraged because being a single mother with autistic children is overwhelming and challenging. I’m desperately trying to provide for them. Thankfully you Father God have provided this far and for that I AM so grateful. You are the God of possible. Please continue to protect me and my boys. “When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall” AMEN!

Yes, I usually love this verse. But I’m not looking to trust my understanding. I’m looking to trust what God says so that I can understand. But maybe part of trusting God is just to believe he will take care of it, even though I don’t understand. If I really need to understand, God will make sure that I do. If mostly what’s required is to trust him even though I don’t understand that’s where I need to be.
I think my brain hurts lol.

I just listened to your homily on Hallow. Also, love noting that some of your quotes are the “thought” for the day. I started saying the surrender quote along with the Divine Mercy trust quote. Tho I am elderly and Catholic from conception - yes, I know that’s not said, but I think and feel that way about our Sacred Church. I still don’t understand what that encompasses. But your homily answered that in a simple, beautiful way. Thank you, again. I think I still have much to learn about a simple statement “Jesus I surrender to You or Jesus I trust in You.” But even the thought of needing more info is most likely not needed, for me anyway. Some wonderful theologians in our Church can really get into the innermost being of such statements and all I’m thinking is my usual intellectual response of “Huh?” Thank you again. I see I too put conditions on life experiences. Right now, I need help to organize stuff to give away most of it, and God hasn’t sent anyone knocking on my door saying that God has sent them. I would most likely not let them in thinking they are loonier than myself. If I could copy your homilies and talks, I would decorate my apt with them. I do have others I like, but so far you are still No. 1. Just thought should I be less effusive because you are a priest and desire to remain humble? Still, thanks so much for your homilies and talks such as BIY & CIY.

The characters we read about in scripture don't ask why, but I think God does answer the question many many times. He says so often something in the pattern of, "(so that/and then), you will know that I the Lord am your God" and often followed by, "and then you will be my people, and I will be your God.
I understand that to mean the answer to any why questions is that everytime God calls us is so that when all is said and done, we would know that He is God, know Him in every way that we had not known. And by knowing Him, we would belong to Him, and He to us. That we would accept Him as our God, to choose to belong to him, as He has already emrbaced us as children, and chose to belong to us.

Oh boy. I don’t understand the expectations part. I don’t want tomorrow to be the same as today or all the other days that are now yesterday that have been challenging miserable threatening, ongoing unresolved.
I do very much appreciate what you said about understanding. It’s been on my mind a lot in the last few years. When I think of wanting to understand it’s not so much to do with me trusting God as I think I could be comforted by knowing why something good was taken away and something bad has to stay and continue. Easier or a higher possibility of being able to accept. But I do see a connection between requiring understanding and trusting I don’t know if that’s how my mind has been working when I say to God, I want to understand and then it feels like I could go ahead, or I would know what to do that’s correct!
If I knew the next right step to do, I wouldn’t have to be asking God for understanding what’s going on! Is the next step to give up or is the next step to pursue changing a situation even though everything in the situation is going against the things I need to do to change it for the better.
Not understanding makes me feel stupid.
Thank you all for listening and maybe Fr. Mike can elaborate on all this at some other time.

I got to that point of 'as long as I understand'. I trust that Father Mike is right to tell us not to put that condition. I just don't know what to do then. How do I know what I should do? How do I know what the Lord is calling me to do or learn or be or not be if I don't understand?

I agree, but as simple as it is to trust like that, it is so complicated. Journeys are filled with so many moments of doubt not because we want to but because we are human. This world is really hard. Some weather the battle better than others. Are they any less dependent on God. Very complicated as was Bishop Barron's homily. Im tired.
