I made a slight mistake on the all in pricing 209 bucks for the Gameplay pledge, I didn't realize you also got the S1 Vignette and S1 Lore and Scenario books which added on would cost you an extra 15. So you do save 26 instead of that 11, if you were contemplating all of those, just FYI. It ruins my 1 dollar extra joke, but I figured I should let you all know anyway ;)
So did I, I backed all the Hostage Negotiator Kickstarters and have absolutely everything, it's a great game. But Final Girl has a way more exciting theme.
Was completely on the fence with this one. My FOMO was in full gear but listening to your arguments and then looking up at my shelf of shame... Well you've managed to shut up my collector compulsion completely! Thanks for saving me a good amount of money in a month where I really shouldn't be spending that much! Maybe when it hit retail and doesn't sell out immediately I'll give it another look and build the collection over time
Hello, just wanted to say that I cot this for Christmas and it is the best solo game I ever played. I too get fomo and purchase when I shouldn't but this is a must. Every expansion is less then 20 dollers so the price is finally right. I have only 2 and am not going to buy them all just to have them. I will buy them as I see the need to expand not just to collect them all. I would recommend you just buy camp happy trails and the core set. Less then 40 bucks for you to experience the magic. N e way good luck hope you don't miss out on this as it became my favorite solo of all time. Never played a more thematic game.
I went with the full season 2 set. I have gotten into actively playing solo board games instead of video games and I like the idea of a highly thematic quick to table experience. Most of my solo games I want to play have been longer, keep it on the table types - Fields of Arle, 7th Continent, Spirit Island, and Mage Knights as examples. That's despite that I often don't have even a full hour to play. I liked the storage solution, minis, and playmat the full set of a season provided. Thematically, season 2 fit me a lot better than season 1. Based on everything I've heard, a single season should be more than enough content for a long time and if I end up in love with the game and actively play it for a long time then I can look out for season 1 (3? 4?) sets to add on.
I have not played a huge amount of solo games, but I have played a lot of board games adaptations on various platforms. Given Final Girl is focussed purely on solo play, the theme looks fun and it looks very well implemented I figured this might get me away from extra screen time when I'm home, bored and have no friends to co-opt into playing one of my multi-player board games. Sure many board games now can play solo but I've never really enjoyed cutting a multi-player game to solo. This should be much better. Although after watching this I am pretty confident in my decision to only pledge a limited amount, get a game I can play occasionally, without getting so much extra material it becomes superfluous.
Not certain, if I finalise backing at least the Core and likely 2 films Evolmorph for certain with Ratchet Lady, Organism and Big Bad Wolf all a pretty close second, Intruders is the only S2 I'm meh about, if I go nuts Season 2 Franchise.
Thank you for this series 🙏 I love your viewpoint. I'm the same way while I have gone crazy for Marvel Champions, I prefer to play my games out before I add the expansions as I don't want to bloat my collection and then never get a game to the table cause I'm always looking at the new hotness.
You jumped on this one fast! I bought this recently from my FLGS, It was my first pure solo experience and I like it a lot, I started with 2 film boxes, (Camp Happy Trails, and (The legally distinct) Frightmare on Maple Street) and after playing it 3 times 2 on the camp with hans, and 1 time on maple street with dr. fright. I really liked the Frightmare one added a lot of fun new thematic elements, that I was really missing in the happy trails, so I think every box will appeal to a different play style, I've since bought the rest of season 1, and of course the miniatures, which I do think they add a lot to the experience. They game is swingy, and it's hard to resist cheating, however there is enough ways to mitigate dice rolls, it feels much more strategic than I thought it would, so careful planning is necessary, but also you can have those big win or die moments, which are really fun. If both of these seasons were out right now, I would get season 2, because I like the themes better in those boxes sci fi horror, the purge, silent hill esque etc... and I think 3 film boxes would be enough for anyone really unless it's the only game you play. But I do not think you need both. How they get you, is they sell all the minis for one season in a box, so if you want the minis, it feels weird to not have it complete, dang you Van Ryder.
Haha, that sneaky mini play! This is awesome feedback for those on the fence, I'm happy to hear the minis enhance the experience. It makes sense, because the theme is such a draw here, but when I was looking at the board as this somewhat tactical survival puzzle, I thought oh I love the simplicity of the little meeples I don't think I'd ever need the minis. Now I've got to delete point number two, dang it Joshua!! XD
@@RoomandBoardReviews Yeah red meeple stalking yellow/pink meeple wasn't as tense, as big man with pig face mask, and sledge hammer stalking, yellow meeples, and teen with bow & arrow. It's kind of like Nemesis in that way, seeing the monsters in full form, is much more frightening... in a sitting down at your table, and moving game components kind of way Oh and the gruesome deaths are cool too for more thematic immersion, but you can totally pull those up on your phone/tablet etc... they have them available online and read them instead of trying to figure out where to store more booklets. I think the mats/storage boxes aren't worth it ( I've got enough big box games, this one feels nice to have like a VHS collection/row of books on the shelf) and the vehicle minis are cool, but really, the final girl minis/killer minis are the only cosmetic upgrade/extra I think is worth it,
@@itziar2983 so far: Frightmare on Maple Street, Carnage at the Carnival. I think Happy Trails Horror is good to teach you the mechanics but the other two will step it up thematically
I know I'm late to the party here. I wasn't sure if I would like Final Girl. It looked fun, and I do enjoy co-op and solo/co-op games. But I just wasn't sure about Final Girl, despite initially liking what I'd seen when it was first announced. I picked up the core box and a couple Feature Film boxes from season 1 that seemed interesting. But I figured that was all the investment I'd put into the game for now. I've since dropped over $300 more on feature film boxes, minis, and yes even the season 1 storage box. But I don't regret doing so, because I have been enjoying the game a lot. Even the variety from just 2 feature films was able to support playing 20+ games without feeling like it was getting old. So more options and variety would only enhance it for me.
Got to your video cause yesterday evening my worl turned upside down when I discovered Final Girl! Realized its only kickstart option and started digging) Since I love horror movies, and found myself playing Pandemic (game for 2-4 participants) on MY OWN :D when no one is home, I realized its a game for me)) And all those visuals and cards and options and EVERYTHING about it makes me going wild) Im going fot core box + 2 movies from S2 + playmat. and Im going for it RIGHT NOW!!!
Very true about the price. I missed the S1 Kickstarter, and so I got the S1 all in from The Game Steward, and as they offered free shipping, I didn't pay that much more than the KS price. I'm currently all in on S2 because the gameplay for S1 has just been awesome. But I'm a player who never feels the need to 'cheat', even on dice heavy games. I'm not insulting those who do, I just literally can't relate. The whole point of games like these is to enjoy the emerging narrative for what it is. And for this game in particular, you don't ever just make one bad roll that instantly ends your game. You make one bad roll, you adapt, the story gets more interesting....etc. And win or lose, I always find it entertaining. I also never thought I'd see a solo board game end up on this channel (breaking 1 million dollars in about 3 days). Is solo board gaming still "taboo"? ((I actually enjoy multiplayer competitive/coop games more than solo, but have gotten into board games so much lately that I enjoy all of them)).
Just cancelled my Gameplay All-In. I totally do not have time nor inclination to play solo board games....and I would totally cheat...Thanks for talking me down; you just got a subscriber....even though you couldn't save me from Marvel Zombies.
I had the S2 Collection Booster already backed but after this, I completely dropped my pledge. Darn you for saying the things I already know but wanted to completely ignore.
So I just looked at the web page for Final Girl. Now their isn't any in Stock. But I see a pdf for the rules/lore Book and a custom make your own Final Character. Which could save you money and make some really cool fun gameplay.
All valid points but... 5) It was pure genius of Van Ryder to release the Season 2 campaign shortly after Season 1 delivered. Hype is high, it's sold out in stores, or hasn't even arrived yet. Pure genius. But I already went all-in on Season 1 because I love horror (and there are too few horror board games), it's a proven game system (Hostage Negotiator) and I've been wanting to get a game designed around solo play, not just an addon or two-handing it. 4) But I want to collect it. Already went all-in Season 1, so I want Season 2. I want a complete collection. 3) If you feel the need to cheat at a solo game, then you are missing the point, especially with Final Girl. It's about the story that gets created while playing. Even if you fail, you get to break out the Gruesome Death Books and get a narrative ending to your game story. 2) Oh, but I love and want those beautiful collector boxes. I want those nice boxes to hold the miniatures. I want more miniatures. Again, complete collection desired. 1) But the entire reason I got this was to have a really good solo game to play that is designed around solo play. So this point doesn't work. Looking forward to next week and Marvel Zombies. At least it will be one I don't have, and I do have that Zombicide: Undead or Alive coming. But somehow, I think that one might be met by deaf ears. :)
Skipping both!! Got Hostage Negotiator with expansions recently and haven't played them all yet, as for Zombicide I have first edition plus expansions and that's enough for me, not that into Marvel aside from Spiderman. VAT reasons also.
I originally pledged for everytjing. I have now dialed it back to Series 2 content only. Two sets of similar content, without a unified storage system (two separate boxes), seems like a lot.
This was an easy pass for me due to your #1: I don't do solo board gaming. Despite being pretty introverted, I do like getting together with a good group of people, and board games are a great way to make that happen. Plus I have a large backlog of books, movies, shows, PC/video games, etc. Yay! I can save a boatload of money and dump it into Marvel Zombies! Doh!
Sooo, my first reaction was I need this (of course I do), but I dont like just buying more stuff and my alert mode kicks in for products over 50.- After watching some playthroughs and reviews I knew there is no way the game is indeed enough to buy 10 boxes or even 5. I dont need minis and hate to much material, and I thought each box is already a storage box (as you mentioned) I am atm down (not pledged anything yet), to core, the alien, the ice station and of course the asylum (this is must have for me). While i could combine These to 9 different things, I know in reality it wont be that different, but I expect the 3 things to really play different. What I realize in solo games though is that I usually do not take a lot of time, I just mechanically rush through the games and probably will cheat sometimes. Sooo I might not pledge at all, but if I do pretty sure I need those 3 then :)
I think I’m sold on a variation of #1, I do play solo games but what I like is different/narrower than what I like in board games in general. I tend to like low interaction, point salad style euros, steadily optimizing for maximum score. Even though these are not my usual favorites for multiplayer. I think maybe the lack of dramatic swings makes them more consistently fun and less tempting to cheat. And, 7th Continent. It’s nothing like that, but somehow it’s in its own category of games I like solo. I could see trying out this system though. The sci fi ones, Station 2891 and Into the Void would be my top picks.
That's really neat, I love point salad in multiplayer but I also feel like I gravitate more to this win or lose condition in the solo realm. I wonder why that is.
I can totally see that, aiming for something a little more conclusive than a score. But I’m too tempted to cheat rather than “oh well I guess I need to start over” so that kinda ruins it. 😆 7th Continent is kind of an exception for some reason. I guess it’s just predictable enough that bad outcomes seem roughly “fair” and it’s interesting to keep pressing and see if you can overcome them.
I am definitely one of the "I like solo games, but I don't play them" group of people... Maybe I will not back it... I might make a deal with myself: if I manage to play one solo board game before the campaign ends (or 5 different ones before the pm ends?) I am allowed to back the final girl 😁 Thank you for your great video.
I agree with you 100% that they are doing a great job at striking while the iron is hot. FOMO is very real when it comes to Kickstarters and Gamefound now. When you see how hard it is to get this game right now and you have the chance to get everything during this Kickstarter it really makes you want to go for it. I tend to lead to the everything and all-in pledges due to the amount of game critical content, but this one is really different due to how the feature films work. It isn't really adding anything to an overall campaign/game. The game can be pretty complete with just 1 or 2 feature films.
Definitely, it feels really hard to get right now as well. And I'm sure they didn't want to overextend themselves on the first print run in case it wasn't as successful and didn't pick up as quickly as it has, but everywhere I checked I saw a great MSRP price and then a sold out sign, definitely fuels that sense of wanting everything because "you'll never have a chance to get it again", even though you probably will.
My excitement on this one is the theme, but I don't do solo. This is a game that I'd likely play a ton if it was an app. And, they could get a bunch of money out of me by making the different flicks DLC.
What do you mean? Of course I'll play the 3240 possible combinations (27 girls X 12 killers (vignettes included) x 10 locations) ATLEAST once until series 3 comes out. Certainly better than eating anything for the next week and a half I tell you that.
I have looked in to this game, love the idea. but it seems only the top pledges are worth getting from KS. If I just want the base box and one feature, $40 about £30, plus shipping $17, and possible 20% tax $11.40, total $68.40 about £50. where as I can just buy them later from a local shop for £30 or $40, and no shipping. which is just buying what I need to play the game. Thank you for doing this channel, it does help to stop and reassess whether things are worth buying in KS. Oh and you seem to have a noise at your audio edit points.
Yeah that's my calculation as well. And yeah, thanks for pointing that out, I was having some bad feedback that I tried to edit out most of but some of them got away from me. Shouldn't be a consistent thing.
I was very much on the fence for this....I wish I had pledged a $1 to it...I sometimes do for games (3 times so far) but too many times I sit on it and regret it. Mostly because not being a backer, some people/companies charge a lil extra in some things and I have this weird thing where I want that the evidence I backed a game. Wish Kickstarter showed what ya Late Pledged too xD. My biggest thing about this campaign is that I wish it had come out at another time. Either much much earlier or much later. I have 3 other Kickstarters I'm backing/late pledging to atm and it's really hard to squeeze in a 4th one. I'm certainly not going all-in, at most I'd get the core game (which unless I'm confused, the core/base can't be played unless you have a "film" expansion, Am I correct on this?) and then get two "films" scenarios to play with. I feel that near $300 for S1 & S2 or a little less for all-in for one or the other is...kinda too much for what this game is imo. But yeah.....late pledging to Mythic Battle Ragnarok + Pantheon, most likely all-in. Late pledging to Primal: The Arrival all-in and then having backed Marvel Zombies Zombicide, most likely at the Hungry/ all-in minus Galactus pledge is a LOT on my table. Im still waiting on Zombicide Undead or Alive and Marvel X-Men United to arrive xD But as a Horror movie obsessed girl, this theme is really speaking to me....I just wish it had a bit more savings or had it's campaign start at a later time. Closer to fall maybe...IDK. My only worry is that retail seems to not stock or have much stock of the game and S1 "films" and I fear if I sit out on the late pledge that I may wind up without a game to get, having to pay more for it or just unable to get the "films" I'd be interested in.
Yeah that's the tough call on this one. I also feel like there will be a few but not every feature film will be out there in the wild. Hopefully it's the cream that will rise to the top, they'll obviously want to put their best foot forward to get everyone hooked, and with the success of season 2 hopefully that will translate to more retail. I think the best course is think about the ones you'd like to see at retail and contact your normal game channels and see if they'll be stocking them, that at least will either help ease the FOMO or solidify your decision.
@@RoomandBoardReviews Oh yeah, hopefully the more popular ones will! The Thing inspired one I feel HAS to be up near the top and would hit retail shops better. Appreciate the response and advice! I'll have to call around and see if this is in anyone's radar! Hopefully when A.J. Porfirio eventually does a third Kickstarter for Final Girl, that they'll continue to offer past Feature Films as optional buys. Not guaranteed, but such is the gambling life of Kickstarter games xD! And yeah, FOMO def gets to me quite a bit, though thankfully not ALL the time. Least my saving grace is that my video game hobby is coming to a close and the money I'd use to buy new systems and games will be available to put towards boardgames....Boardgames, though I should practice a limit on how many I back per year xD. Hope you're having a good one and stay safe!
Thanks for this video. I’ve been eyeing up series 1 but thought the whole set seems excessive, and wondered if it would still be enjoyable with only 1 or 2 sets. You’ve reaffirmed my decision not to buy everything when it’s available as that definitely is over kill for me.
Great video, Chris, always entertaining! You convinced me in previous videos and saved me some money before, but today… I dunno. You seem pretty excited yourself! xD You were not able to talk me out of it just yet, but hey, at least I’ve gotten some laughs for half an hour. :D I play solo games enough so I can justify getting some of it… Maybe and probably not all of it, but the completionist in me cringes so hard just by thinking of pledging for less than all! I might have a problem. xD But yeah, I’m excited. Not having a consistent game group at the moment I think I’ll table it enough to experience at least every scenario twice or thrice. And you could potentially play it at two, making bad decisions and dying horribly together with your girlfriend. Seems fun. I might just hold on to it for now. Thank you, Chris! See you at Marvel Zombies! Convince me then please!
Haha, I'll do my best! That's a great point of playing with two, someone else mentioned that they love playing solo games with their son, because it really is just like a co-op. That thought has definitely made me consider it a bit more, haha.
Valid point! I was excited that a few of the recent games I purchased came with a solo mode, thinking that I will get them played sooner if I couldn't get a group together. Have I?..... No. I've only played 2 games solo ever. Tiny Epic Galaxies, which feels way less epic alone. And, Village Green, a traditional Solitaire feeling experienced, only much better. That's the one I have soloed probably 20 times or more. But, it's a simple set up and quick card game. I'm figuring out that "Board" games with a big B maybe aren't really gonna happen for me solo.
I had already made the decision before seeing this - looks cute , flavour of the month . But it's expensive if micro'ed and $10 a box then maybe - may not get to my country - so shipping can be cheaper in KS . But I just don't play much solo - like you 1001 things I want to do - If I want a puzzle then a book or online . If it was co-op different story. Same with that Mythic Mischief - so many people were raving about - it's an great abstract 1 vs 1 game - blah blah - yeah so what - I can do abstract puzzles again from books , online - A lot of money to trash someone new to it . I have HIVE and it's expansions - cheap cheerful . I have Chess - Chess you can play with lots of people and vary your game some what - from fun , to quietly/teaching someone - to brutal pawn /piece swap war of attrition . defensive pawn structures etc . I have backed some solo games - that are like open world adventures , or have solo option - great if wanting to learn and/or teach for competitive/co-op. I also buy for family - so maybe depending on shipping get a few boxes - FG1&2 $209 +shipping vs Marvel Zombies $240 +shipping . Also maybe pick up 2nd hand later date cheap in my country - when they should of watch this :). TBF this would be great 50 years ago vs boring TV your parents are watching/homework
Get Unbroken instead. It's a better game vs. any of the "Feature Films". It's quick, and even if you don't play solo much, it's quick and easy enough to fit into 20 spare minutes alone. Unlike Final Girl which mentally fiddly to play, and takes longer to set up etc.
I'm not a big fan of slasher movies so I didn't bother looking into this game but then I heard some random thing about an Alien themed scenario in this on some board game youtube video so I checked it out and noticed The Thing as well! I love scifi-themed/space-horror or whatever you wanna call it so I'll be getting those two boxes and probably the zombie vignette as well.
I'm glad it was helpful! I'd double check at your store that you can get it there just to be safe, I know not all places will end up having everything on hand if you wanted one specific film.
Thanks for the heads up, I've been having some issues with my mic setup, so tried to edit most of it out but unfortunately some remained, but really appreciate the heads up, I think I have a fix for the future to deal with some of that feedback.
I chose not to back because I had Hostage Negotiator, thought I'd love it, and it was just meh. Played 3 games and sold it. I was intrigued, and drawn in by all the hype...but I know if I really don't want to pay $120+ for a solo only game, that likely won't get more than 4 or 5 plays. Good video.
I feel like this would sit on my shelf looking pretty after a couple plays. Imagine the beautiful collection of seasons boxes sitting there and your friend is all excited to survive the horrors with you and you tell them they can borrow it if they want but you can't play together.
HILARIOUS 🤣 Same thoughts, started Epic all in. 💰💰💰💰💰 Why have minis when victims are wooden meeples? Why have vehicles when they only get used (allegedly) 25% of the time? Rulebook for season feature films in one place, I'll cope. Storage box(es), so that I have less options when storing it in a sliding door cupboard, give me a break. New art on a box I won't even see, I'll cope. A hard copy death narrative to read so I get diverted from the gameplay for a more immersive experience, it's a game and I'm sure my imagination is better than flicking through umpteen pages to read a passge. I'm not sure I'll use it. So I go from needing it all, to needing nothing, to wanting a solo game experience. Have fun and keep the monolgues coming and can't wait for season 3!! 🤣
I think one of the reasons for it being so compelling is just how damn good the cover-art illustrations are. I'm limiting myself to only the 3* scenario boxes that I'm genuinely drawn too in terms of theme, but I'm certainly feeling the urge to get more if for no other reason than they'll look sick lined up together on a shelf! Hopefully - given how successful the campaign has been - they'll be able to have a reliable re-supply strategy for retailers long after the pledges have been fulfilled but it depends what their business model is; whether they want the game to be regularly available outside of Kickstarter or if they're just fomo-baiting-whale hunters? *S1 The Happy Trails Horror; S2 Into The Void; S2; Terror At Station 2891
I know that 'solo' mode has been tacked on to a bunch of games lately (which is great!) or even have unofficial solo varients you can find on bgg (also great!) and I love that solo gamers are getting games made specifically from the ground up for them. But I think this would be an easier buy if there was a head to head varient where someone gets to play as the murderer :D
A highly thematic 1v1 where one player is the killer and the other is the final girl would be amazing. The killer could spend the game powering up via kills while also trying to take her out early. Meanwhile, the final girl is surviving and gearing up for the final confrontation. Ensure the game has a tight time of 30-60 minutes that creates tension from the start.
I actually almost fell off my chair when they announced the storage box. It doesn’t nothing, doesn’t help consolidate the components in a box or help setup time. In fact, the storage box is really just a box to contain all the boxes and makes it difficult for me to fit the games in my non-kallax sized bookshelf
That's the pledge I'm considering as well, I think you'd get a very complete experience, but also I know my FLGS will probably have copies and I'm not picky about which feature film I'd get so it's an easy wait and see
There's a movie called Final Girl (which strangely was released the same year as The Final Girls) that isn't half bad. Only like 40% bad. No, that's not true. It's really weird, and it's supposed to be weird, so I think it's very successful. It stars Abigail Breslin (from Zombieland and Little Miss Sunshine fame), Wes Bentley, and the guy who plays Bjorn Ironside in Vikings. I recommend it for any horror genre fans.
I liked hostage negotiator but found it to be redundant after a bit. You normally use the same conversation cards over and over so it looses its theme after a bit. I wanted it to be a bit more complicated, which final girl really seems to be a 2.0 version. I think I'll back one or 2 expansions from season 2, mainly so i can get the lore book for both seasons (i can't find the lore books at retail or for free pdf). They did unlock a free vintage film, zombies for season 2, that can be played with any location and bad guy, but i don't know if you get it if you only get one expansion. If it is free, it covers half the shipping ;) I'll probably try to get the core box and 1 or 2 expansions from retail while i wait for S2 to ship. I think I'll like the game but certainly don't want to spend $100+ on a game like this, but the storage box looks pretty cool too!
The storage box definitely looks cool. I'd look into the retail aspect soon though if you're not adding on a core box for season two. I guess the pledge manager will realistically be open for a while if you can't find them, but I think one of the big reasons it's taking off so much on KS is that it's currently out of stock in a lot of places.
I found this video as I was about to spend $300 on this game. Let me reiterate that's THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS of actual money. Thank you so much because now I am only spending $60 and I really think I will play this just as much as if I spent five times as much. I mean let's put this in context, you could buy 3 copies of Gloomhaven for that much money.
Number 5) I own it, and have played it 33 times so far. Number 4) True, but I'll play it enough to own each box. Number 3) I play tons of dice games solo not a problem for me. Number 2) They have said that MSRP will probably be higher, plus I like supporting game companies directly. Number 1) I probably own over 50 solo games and play them all the time. So didn't work for me.
I am loving this series. Curious to see what you cover next! Will you only cover kickstarters you've decided not to back or would you play devil's advocate and cover a game you are backing despite yourself?
Haha, my plan is to cover anything that breaks the 1 million bar as long as there is still enough time left in the campaign. I'm looking forward to getting to one I am backing :) but in terms of those upcoming I sadly don't see Unfair's upcoming expansion reaching those heights. And then every Monday I cover what's leaving that week, try to tell some jokes, and see what value the stretch goals are bringing at that point, that sort of thing
#5 is exactly why I'm NOT backing it. It looks to be a great game but I quickly realized that my personal interest in the franchise IS being generated by the excitement of other people and not the game itself.
I am the biggest slasher fanatic and I have no friends 😂. I think this game is somehow the thing I always wanted but never knew I did. I can’t help but feel like I’ll spend a ton of hours on this and I will regret if I don’t back it and get the collection.
Haha it was made for you! The bonus is that it's so successful most likely down the line there will be a series 3, or if it gets you pumped and the mechanics look cool then grab what gives you that super excited feeling and leave what doesn't! Hope it's even more perfect for you than you hope!
your #3 reason is my #1 reason in my attempt to convince myself to not back this. if i'm playing a solo game with dice rolling, i will absolutely cheat like a Cheater McCheatface (totally a real person, look him up) instead of taking the L. which sorta defeats the purpose of a game with dice rolling as a main mechanic. if i *do* back this game, i will of course have to snag a full season for that sweet, sweet display case. but i think i can convince my terrible cheat-happy self to skip it. i think. (looking forward to your video tuesday when CMON crushes the $1,000,000.01 threshold with marvel zombicide in half a nanosecond. ;) )
Great video !! Fomo is high on this game. I’m not a fan of the horror theme but the reviews are great for this game and has me interested. $160 for 1 season on a 30min filler game and the theme and your Amazing video has me waiting for a retail version instead of just the core and one other.
I wouldn’t count on this being one of those that ends up at retail, there’s a reason S1 has been incredibly difficult to find (besides the least popular feature film). Plus even where you find it’s usually at the same price or more expensive than the KS.
1. The idea of the game "Final Girl" (horror movie settings, freely combinable) is better than the actual game. 2. It looks like it will be available in retail for a good price.
Haha I've played a ton of Nemo's War which is a way longer game full of frustrating dice rolls, yet still never been tempted to cheat, so I guess #3 is not a consideration. As for #2 I live in Taiwan which...makes it extremely questionable about being able to save on shipping down the line. I wanted season 1 and refrained from Kickstarting it, but then it never hit a retailer who will send it here :( And for #1 heck yeah I play solo games...but all the good ones that feel like proper Board Games, are so darn long! Two hours or more! There are so many awesome multiplayer games that play in under an hour, but all the solo ones like that are very simplistic and unvariable!
I am backing season 2 and added Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street. The stretch goals are a little disappointing, but I don’t think they had any idea that they would hit 1 million. Therefore goals that would have been spread over 5 - 600k ended up stretching across a million with a few randos thrown in because you “have to have stretch goals.” The additional action cards could be cool if they are implemented well. The one critique that has stuck with me is how repetitive your actions are as you play. However, this stretch goal appears to be one of those “holy crap, and we are blowing through our stretch goals” add-ons. My guess is they will either make the game too easy or be window dressing. In the end, I am backing because I love horror and want to see more from this genre. Lovecraft, vampires, and zombies dominate this board game genre. I own Last Friday and a few other IP horror games, but I want more - and if spending money on a game that I know I will enjoy eventually gets me Tucker and Dale versus Evil The Board Game, then it was money well spent. You’ve been zapped. Since this is the 3rd or 4th time I’ve posted on one of your videos, I felt like I needed to add a catchphrase. I’m pretty sure that is comment section etiquette.
I'm interested in the Final Girl Kickstarter, but I can't justify spending that much on it. I would rather play Spirit Island or Terraforming Mars solo. In terms of theme, I already have Last Friday, You're the Maniac!, and Overkill Halloween Slasher. Soon I will have Nemesis and Nemesis Lockdown. That being said it looks like a great game series. Also, solid power bottom joke
Haha, thank you, I liked it too. I'm so stoked for Nemesis Lockdown even though I haven't nearly played Nemesis enough, I don't care I want to be on Mars!
I had absolutely no desire to play or back this game… until I saw the campaign. I need to go back and watch the review videos I saw a week or two ago that had me extremely disinterested in this game. That campaign gives me so many gimme gimme feelings. 😬
Wanting to cheat at solo isn't a negative. If you have fun fixing the dice occassionally, then do it. Games are for enjoyment. No one else will know. Just have fun = )
Where do I send the 50% of the usd I just saved?.. you deserve it. Although I am heavy solo gamer, it is clear that I can buy the game in my language by much less money once I remove all the extra cost. I like the big box and the mat?…..yessssssss…. But really to pay double?.
I hate you right now. Ok, I don’t hate YOU as much as I hate me. Was ready to go all-in on Final Girl, but your reasoning is making me consider being……responsible. Ugh. The word just feels dirty. On another video I commented about replacing my FOMO for games I don’t have with games I do have; but I still struggle massively with FOMO of content in games I do still back. Like, if I really like the game (and I must feel I’m going to, otherwise why back it), then I’m going to want everything! Of course, I have many games with content I will never play (I’m literally sleeving yet another Marvel Legendary expansion as I watch this video). I’ve never played Final Girl, I totally am swooning over the hype, and I’m not a solo board gamer. Damn you and your injection of rational thoughts.
I didn't care about this franchise at all until I saw The Thing and Alien boxes and suddenly I was matching everyone's excitement level 😭
I decided to back it at the last minute. I got the Epic All In pledge. Thanks for the video and keep up the good work.
Now you make me doubt again .. Season 2 looks more fun. Hmm should I also get season1, it looks like a good introduction 🤔
@@jorisschelfhout2348 Sounds like the start of a 5 reasons to have FOMO list haha.
Exactly this, agree with you mate.
Same thoughts. If it's really good i can always get set 1 later
Came here asking “What’s final girl?” Left here with a pledge to get all gameplay content. Well done sir.
ok but the box set's box is so well themed, i love the VHS player/boxes combo
Great reasons.
...
Yeah I just bought it...
Nice, yeah I think this is a great option for those who want to dive into the solo only genre. What feature films are you thinking about getting?
It's kind of like Nemesis in that way, seeing the monsters in full form, is much more frightening... in a sitting down at your table, and moving game components kind of way
Oh and the gruesome deaths are cool too for more thematic immersion, but you can totally pull those up on your phone/tablet etc...
they have them available online and read them instead of trying to figure out where to store more booklets. I think the mats/storage boxes aren't worth it ( I've got enough big box games, this one feels nice to have like a VHS collection/row of books on the shelf) and the vehicle minis are cool, but really, the final girl minis/killer minis are the only cosmetic upgrade/extra I think is worth it,
@@joshuag7027 which films from season 1 would you recommend/are more fun? Im planning buying a couple and wait for season 2. Thanks a lot!!!
@@itziar2983 so far: Frightmare on Maple Street, Carnage at the Carnival. I think Happy Trails Horror is good to teach you the mechanics but the other two will step it up thematically
@@joshuag7027 Thanks a lot!!!!!
Haha awesome, it sounds perfect for you! I hope you love it!
Yeah, I mean, you can play Alien, Thing, Silent Hill, and Resident Evil 4. Definitely something I'll play again and again.
Darn you for saying the things I already know but wanted to completely ignore.
funny how a yt video can cancel preorder - I canceleled two of mine last month like that
So I just looked at the web page for Final Girl. Now their isn't any in Stock. But I see a pdf for the rules/lore Book and a custom make your own Final Character.
Which could save you money and make some really cool fun gameplay.
YOU SAID MY NAME ON THE TV!!!!!!!
;)
Going for finale girl and definitely marvel zombies too😁👌
Skipping both!! Got Hostage Negotiator with expansions recently and haven't played them all yet, as for Zombicide I have first edition plus expansions and that's enough for me, not that into Marvel aside from Spiderman. VAT reasons also.
I sometimes wonder if people who "really enjoy" Final Girl also enjoy daytime T.V.
@@baroldalt312 Nope
@@ScytheNoire just it consumes a lot of time for very samey stilted mechanics. Compared to other options anyway.
Doh!
Sooo, my first reaction was I need this (of course I do), but I dont like just buying more stuff and my alert mode kicks in for products over 50.-
After watching some playthroughs and reviews I knew there is no way the game is indeed enough to buy 10 boxes or even 5. I dont need minis and hate to much material, and I thought each box is already a storage box (as you mentioned)
I am atm down (not pledged anything yet), to core, the alien, the ice station and of course the asylum (this is must have for me).
Nice choices, those all look pretty fun and a nice variance of theme, I feel like that'll keep you going for a good long time :)
7th Continent is kind of an exception for some reason. I guess it’s just predictable enough that bad outcomes seem roughly “fair” and it’s interesting to keep pressing and see if you can overcome them.
I am definitely one of the "I like solo games, but I don't play them" group of people... Maybe I will not back it...
I might make a deal with myself: if I manage to play one solo board game before the campaign ends (or 5 different ones before the pm ends?) I am allowed to back the final girl 😁
Thank you for your great video.
Thank you for this video, that would probably make me save money :)
I hope this game becomes a digital game.
What do you mean? Of course I'll play the 3240 possible combinations (27 girls X 12 killers (vignettes included) x 10 locations) ATLEAST once until series 3 comes out. Certainly better than eating anything for the next week and a half I tell you that.
I wasn't interested in this...until now!
So now, after a full year has passed, are you excited to receive Final Girl? Or, if not, any ragrets?
Im still waiting on Zombicide Undead or Alive and Marvel X-Men United to arrive xD
But as a Horror movie obsessed girl, this theme is really speaking to me....I just wish it had a bit more savings or had it's campaign start at a later time.
I'm glad, yeah I think 1-2 sets is going to be the sweet spot for most people.
Super helpful video. My FOMO evaporated…almost.
I agree with those reasons.
lol you got a shout-out in campaign's the comments section a day or two ago about this
Haha, oh really? That's amazing! I feel honoured :)
Great video, Chris, always entertaining! You convinced me in previous videos and saved me some money before, but today… I dunno. You seem pretty excited yourself! xD
You were not able to talk me out of it just yet, but hey, at least I’ve gotten some laughs for half an hour. :D
I play solo games enough so I can justify getting some of it… Maybe and probably not all of it, but the completionist in me cringes so hard just by thinking of pledging for less than all! I might have a problem. xD
But yeah, I’m excited.
@@RoomandBoardReviews Oh, it seems the tables have turned haha! xD
I love scifi-themed/space-horror or whatever you wanna call it so I'll be getting those two boxes and probably the zombie vignette as well.
thanks for this. I just cancelled my pledge and wait for retail.
I'm glad it was helpful! I'd double check at your store that you can get it there just to be safe, I know not all places will end up having everything on hand if you wanted one specific film.
Great video. I have to say I'm guilty on #3.
I realized that every video edit/trim here makes a subtle buzzing sound. Just FYI.
Thanks for the heads up, I've been having some issues with my mic setup, so tried to edit most of it out but unfortunately some remained, but really appreciate the heads up, I think I have a fix for the future to deal with some of that feedback.
was doing my head in as well - problem with HQ phones as expensive DAC
I chose not to back because I had Hostage Negotiator, thought I'd love it, and it was just meh. Played 3 games and sold it. I was intrigued, and drawn in by all the hype...but I know if I really don't want to pay $120+ for a solo only game, that likely won't get more than 4 or 5 plays. Good video.
I feel like this would sit on my shelf looking pretty after a couple plays. Imagine the beautiful collection of seasons boxes sitting there and your friend is all excited to survive the horrors with you and you tell them they can borrow it if they want but you can't play together.
HILARIOUS 🤣
Same thoughts, started Epic all in. 💰💰💰💰💰
Why have minis when victims are wooden meeples?
Reason number 3 spoke to me.....

I know that 'solo' mode has been tacked on to a bunch of games lately (which is great!) or even have unofficial solo varients you can find on bgg (also great!) and I love that solo gamers are getting games made specifically from the ground up for them. But I think this would be an easier buy if there was a head to head varient where someone gets to play as the murderer :D
Yes!
8:52 for those who want the core.
If I looked all over the world, and there’s every final girl. But their survivor eyes seem to pass me by, leave me playing with myself…..
I know that this is a game I would enjoy, but I spent too much money during 2021.
*_IF_* I back Final Girl, it will be the $40 pledge.
That's the pledge I'm considering as well, I think you'd get a very complete experience, but also I know my FLGS will probably have copies and I'm not picky about which feature film I'd get so it's an easy wait and see
I don't think you've ever been badder OR more naughty than in this video!! Bad boy!!! No toy for you!!
Didn't you hear me say EX?!
I just read the book about their support group… The Final Girl Support Group.
If it is free, it covers half the shipping ;)
I'll probably try to get the core box and 1 or 2 expansions from retail while i wait for S2 to ship.
Is there a weird buzz in Chris' mic? Everytime he jumps cuts or starts a new sentence I hear a buzz from his mic
What a nice RUclips channel! You seem like a positive contribution to the boardgame community!
Aw thanks so much I really appreciate that
Love your videos. This is awesome.
Really need this one X(
I am loving this series.
Unfair is going to be an instant back for me though, I love that game
speaking of acting, did you have a cameo in What We Do in the Shadows?
Haha, yup that's me with the feather from a female crow.
I do back solo games if they interest me enough and I think they're worth paying the amount. Final Girl doesn't.
Thank for the voice of reason, I needed that.
Oh, and also I went all-in 😎
#5 is exactly why I'm NOT backing it. It looks to be a great game but I quickly realized that my personal interest in the franchise IS being generated by the excitement of other people and not the game itself.
I was surprised to realize this too, I thought where is this coming from I don't even know what this game is and I want it! haha
There's a recurring buzz throughout the video, especially when you cut to new footage. Great talking points though!
your #3 reason is my #1 reason in my attempt to convince myself to not back this. if i'm playing a solo game with dice rolling, i will absolutely cheat like a Cheater McCheatface (totally a real person, look him up) instead of taking the L. which sorta defeats the purpose of a game with dice rolling as a main mechanic. if i *do* back this game, i will of course have to snag a full season for that sweet, sweet display case. but i think i can convince my terrible cheat-happy self to skip it. i think.
(looking forward to your video tuesday when CMON crushes the $1,000,000.01 threshold with marvel zombicide in half a nanosecond. ;) )
These Videos hit diffrent when you cover something I want....I wants it I needs it yes precious....shut up and take my money
Han wants me he always wanted me
I wanted season 1 and refrained from Kickstarting it, but then it never hit a retailer who will send it here :(
And for #1 heck yeah I play solo games...but all the good ones that feel like proper Board Games, are so darn long!
Two hours or more! There are so many awesome multiplayer games that play in under an hour, but all the solo ones like that are very simplistic and unvariable!
I mean you could easily spend 60 dollars and be happy here. Seems like this Kickstarter has something for everyone.
I am backing season 2 and added Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street.
The stretch goals are a little disappointing, but I don’t think they had any idea that they would hit 1 million. Therefore goals that would have been spread over 5 - 600k ended up stretching across a million with a few randos thrown in because you “have to have stretch goals.”
The additional action cards could be cool if they are implemented well.
Hahahaha I love the catchphrase, it's a very good one XD
First game to reach 1 million? Kingdom Death made 12 mil bruh
*This year
Your video learned me something; I watched your 5 reasons and... I don't seem to be a reasonable guy. I went all in. :p
Hahaha, I hope you end up loving it all!
Your first reason was the deal breaker for me. I will not back it now cos i prefer boardgaming to be a social hobby, than solo.
If you want a solo game to fit into 20 mins alone time, get Unbroken. Final Girl isn't that
I had absolutely no desire to play or back this game… until I saw the campaign. I need to go back and watch the review videos I saw a week or two ago that had me extremely disinterested in this game. That campaign gives me so many gimme gimme feelings. 😬
I backed season 1 last time. Occasionally I play it to remind myself how boring it is.
Wanting to cheat at solo isn't a negative. If you have fun fixing the dice occassionally, then do it. Games are for enjoyment. No one else will know. Just have fun = )
Yeah definitely legit. I just know for myself I would then leave the game feeling dissatisfied, even though I know I'd still do it haha
@@RoomandBoardReviews Which is also fine. = )
Where do I send the 50% of the usd I just saved?.. you deserve it. Although I am heavy solo gamer, it is clear that I can buy the game in my language by much less money once I remove all the extra cost.
I like the big box and the mat?…..yessssssss…. But really to pay double?.
Haha, I'm glad it was helpful. I also try to just worry about the gameplay side of things, makes getting things a lot cheaper for sure :)
Cool! Talk me out of it.
Haha I managed to talk myself out of the lather I whipped myself up in! At least I can say that.
Great acting 😂
I like solo mode as a backup option but have only played it once. I wouldn't personally invest in it but this artwork is pretty ballin'.
I loved the final girls! how dare you slander that movie in a video where my face cameos!
New Year, New Me!
you thinking the final girls movie was bad makes me not trust your opinion on anything you have to say, that movie is fantastic
I needed more Thomas Middleditch, his physical comedy eclipsed everything else!
2 mil. Just saying.
