Thanks for the unboxing. Yes, I did buy Season 3 and 4 as well as Ithaqua to add to my existing Season 1 & 2 pledge from the OG campaign. I just love mixing and matching the elder ones with the episodes. With the original pledge, you ended up having 5 total EOs to play in 13 episodes, for something like 65 different challenges to complete. This set plus the comics Vol 2, brings that up to 27 Episodes, and 11 EOs for a total of 297* combinations. (Some of those Lost Episodes might not support playing with specific EOs, like the Color out of Space one.) So yeah, for me it's the variability. I agree the Investigators tend to blend together, but they always have a cool special ability that only they have. So that's something. I'm also just a huge fan of Cthulhu Mythos, so as long as they keep making this game, I'll keep showing up for it.
@@felidonis_4z40 haha it might be a little too late for me to get one out before it appears in Crowdfunding Countdown, but I'll be sure to do a mini one there if I don't get to it in time
Thanks for the fun unboxing Chris :D Hope you will enjoy this and not get caught up in your high expectations :D This game occasionally plays you and it has really simple mechanics ^^ For me Cthulhu DmD is the No.1 because it is the rare game that even with the full player count of 5 plays in only 2 hrs and gives such a co-op adventure feel. It has that great Lovecraftian vibe and every game is close either as win or loss. (Do not expect to win more than 50% of the time ^^) In my books the ability to freely mix&match scenarios and Great Old Ones makes it so increadibly replayable and fun. Also even after months you pick up a scenario and the rules are intuitive and immediately clear. If you ever get the chance, try playing at 5 players with a 6th as Game Master who does all the Mythos and reads all the fluff. Best game mode for immersion. Also great for public game nights and conventions. Now where is my pledge ... so want to slap on some colour :P ... (btw. a true Cultist would have flinched at the sight of an Elder Sign ... ^^)
I need to get into this and finally try it. New Kickstarter is coming out for Seasons 5+6 and they're supposedly going to make all of the content available from S 1-4. I'm thinking about selling some of my games to get the money and storage space for some of this but I need to play a few more games to decide.
I also made the mistake of pledging. In the US copies have been available in retail for the last month, but alas our pledges haven’t even hit the water. Last CMON crowdfunding project for me!
Best box organization/reboxing video around! Keep them coming! And please, please keep saying names incorrectly, whether you know how to say them correctly or not. I just find it funny that every time a name is said, it's said differently and wrongly. Pure comedy gold IMHO.
I think it’s a bit unique among dungeon crawlers. When my brother and I played we were in one room and there were 3 giant monsters in the next room and we were like, I don’t want to go in there, there are scary monsters in there. That’s not how dungeon crawls usually feel.
@@RoomandBoardReviews btw, was a little hard to tell how deep the "well" was for the player markers and dice storage and such (unfortunately it didn't look very deep), but in the season 1 core box the miniature trays had decent sized wells on multiple trays for storing all the punch tokens so the only things that floated around in the box were the board tiles. Kinda lame if space wasn't planned for those tokens :/
So jealous of you Chris! I just got the shipping notification of season 4 that I ordered on ebay since I couldn't afford it at the time of the PM, but the company I bought it from is based in Canada so of course they got it 🥲 I'm still waiting on my order that is still in China I believe.
I picked up S3, S4, and Ithaqua at retail last month for around $205 American. Pretty happy with what I got and no shipping. Would like the extra stuff but already have S1, S2, and the retail Old Ones. Probably more than I need, but it is so much fun. Just happy I have enough Old Ones to play an entire season with a new baddie each episode now.
meanwhile us KS backers are still waiting for the them to even ship from china...... fuck you CMON.... also my total for all the same stuff you got was like 260 bucks.
I am honestly going to store half the minis away for my pledge. Especially the investigators, I will pick the 4-5 of the best sculpt to try to paint. Who cares if the board and miniatures matches given you have a colored ring to attach to your mini. I may try something similar for the monsters, but it may be harder and I will definitely need to print picture of the monster to slide over the monster board to avoid confusion. There's a ton of variety that could have been added without extra plastic, but gotta print cash with these kickstarters so tons of minis it is
@@clanechelon I got a second hand copy of the others and Zach very graciously printed off the abilities of other heroes and other sins so we have basically all 7 sins and all 40 heroes in the one box and it's great. Definitely don't need all the figures whatsoever
Super excited to have this...eventually...maybe. Found out that the container with my items hasn't even left China and I move next week but CMON refuses to update my address. CDMD is probably my number two game of all time behind Acquire and that one is likely only number one because of nostalgia.
I got a lot of CDMD. Season 1 to 4. I don't have have the original stretch goal box. That mean no extra investigators or Dagon. I'm not looking to get those items as I got plenty. I think you'll come to appreciate how those "generic" abilities of the investigators are crucial to strategy. Balancing out our team is important and you can't do everything. You can't be reckless and you can't be overly cautious so having 2 skills that you know exactly what they are is great. Also, this is a game that once you have the gist of it, you don't spend have the playtime in the rulebook while having meaningful decision space in your gameplay. As for what should you get next if you love it? You want more overall content? Season 1. Still more? Next would be season 2 but I don't think it comes with a new boss which is meh. The missions are a bit zanier and I appreciate that but bosses and investigators are the secret sauce that make the variety to the game. Monsters aren't irrelevant to gameplay but I think they are distant 3rd after Mission + Boss combo and investigators. I think Yog-Sothoth and the Black Goat in the Woods are fine. If you've played out the other bosses in your boxes, feel free to get them but I got Yog on discount and BGinW regular price on boxing day and wouldn't pay premium prices for either as I don't think it's worth overpaying for them but they provided a nice change of pace when I only had Cthulhu and Hastur from season 1. It's overall a fun game but before you plan more purchases, try out all the missions you already have. Try out all the bosses you already have. Then you can make up your own mind of what you actually need to switch up the gameplay and make an informed decision not based on a random comment on youtube. Getting more boxes of a game only makes you less likely to play that game unless it's a favourite game and the only way to do that is make sure it hits the table with regularity. Anyway, enjoy the game as I will enjoy your painting tutorials for the game that will undoubtedly go up on the channel!
I'm the opposite of you. Episodes are what keep the game interesting. Elder gods provide some variability which provides some replayability. (Not enough to replay every episode with every elder god.) The investigators add the least replayability. I haven't played with the wandering monsters (which they added in S3/S4), but I think they'll provide more replayability than the investigators. But, I think they'll be less replayability than the elder gods. My problem with the investigators is that they rarely have a unique ability that you want to max out. Some have unique abilities that you don't even bother leveling up. That means that in most games you boost the powerful and reliable common abilities. The result is that it makes characters feel same-y. Same-y enough that I could probably pick my favorite unique power for each common skill pairing, and never bother with the rest of the investigators.
@@VaultBoy13 yeah, I'm all about variety with the elder gods since I usually main the same investigators. I'm excited to play through the new ones though, I played all of season 1 and 2 investigators at least once and like to play rasputin or the little girl that may or may not have a name and I'm just forgetting 😅
I just played a scenario from the new set. I like the Fear the Unknown changes - subtle (relics and unknown monsters). And yes, the group buy really crushed that shipping price down to a palatable level. Actually, holy! Just looked it up, you WERE IN my group buy! ha ha! I love this game - look forward to your thoughts once you play it - though I can pretty much predict you'll love it. Everyone does. Hey there - how's that for rambling? Did I out-ramble you?
