    This is a great video Tim, because you explain the process very well indeed. Normally I watch a video and have automatic questions pop into my mind, it's the same with your content but you actually instantly answer those questions as you go! Your doing some great work here with you clear and concise explanations. I love the fact that you cover the 3 main processing applications, APP, PI, PS (mentioned). Well done to you, remarkable!

    Thanks. This was a really good tutorial. I followed along with you today with the 30-day free trial version of APP and got my best processing results ever. I didn't even need to do any further tweaks in PS when I was done with the stretch & saturation in APP itself. I will definitely continue using with the paid version.

    Thanks for your efforts in explaining (and simplifying for us) your workflow in APP. As as result I’m trying out the 30 day trial license and enjoying it! I also tried PixInsight after watching your video series, and decided to invest both the cash and time to learn how to use it. In this video you say you prefer APP for stacking and PI for further processing, a stage I haven’t yet reached with PI, so more learning to undertake!

    Love stacking with this software. It helped me a great deal with my images. I searched every corner of the internet to find a good tutorial for stacking and combining H-Alpha and RGB shot with an OSC. This program offers a good and relatively easy way to do this and I figured it out eventually but a clear video on this by somebody with more specialized knowledge would be great. Thanks for the tutorials!

      @@craigcox3393 I would not stack them together. With an OSC integrate the rgb stack and the Ha stack separately and mix them together in post processing. Under Tools Combine RGB in APP can be used for this.

    Another amazing vid, thx so much for a really straightforward explanation of this software. I commentor on my channel recommended I look at this platform. Being new to the hobby this past year I’ve been using DSS, but it’s now time for me to move forward with the next chapter of my post processing journey. I gave a PP a try this evening, but failed to use all the settings properly and was not entirely satisfied with the outcome. I’m gonna give this a try again tomorrow using some of the specifications you listed, with a few adjustments based on my specific setup to see what I get. Thx again and happy hunting this Spring!

    I've been using APP for 2-3 months. Didn't even finish the 30-day trial before I decided the program would be worth the cost. Most of what I've learned about APP is self-taught, because all the guides I found were TOO in-depth in my opinion and using datasets that are nowhere near like mine. Your tutorial is ACE. Simplified and by your video alone I picked up a few tricks. Light Pollution Removal for example. I've been using way too large boxes. Also the Integration-methods were explained very good by your video.
    If you haven't done so already, I highly recommend you post it on the APP forums as well as this tutorial is perfect for beginners.

Now, it's APP. I learned a couple of different options that I hadn't really looked at before. You mentioned the Integration option of longer and shorter subs using the Exposure setting for the Iris nebula. Did you like and use that result? I'll have to check out your mosaic tutorial(s) Thanks.

    • @AstroAddict

    Thanks for the tutorial. Really helpful for knowing what to select and what to ignore. In retrospect though, maybe testing APP with an 1800 sub stack might not have been the cleverest idea. My stacks do tend to be quite meaty as I'm shooting untracked. And for that reason I think I'm unlikely to be buying APP for the near future. DSS may not be as powerful, but it managed this stack in a few hours. APP is currently sitting at 6 hours with an estimated 8 hours still to go. :|

    Thanks for the video. I'm just getting into AP and am currently trying to make some decisions on processing SW. I've seen many talks about APP and that's what got me here. My gear consists of the following: scopes - Astro-Tech AT92 f/5.5, Sky-Watcher AR127 f/6.5, Sky-Watcher 203mm f/3.9 Newt; cameras - ZWO ASI1600MM Pro, Altair 183M PRO TEC; Filter Wheel- ZWO EFW8; Mount - Sky-Watcher EQ6-R PRO. I have limited experience with PhotoShop & PixInSight. I really would like the power of PixInSight but with an easier learning curve and at least reasonably comparable results. Where do you think APP fits in the realm of processing SW today? Based on your initial uses, do you feel it is a strong SW option currently? Do you feel that starting with APP is a reasonable approach if/when I make the move to PixInSight later? Are the processing concepts learned in APP transferable to PixInSight? Can APP handle the complete processing steps for general deepsky objects? Or will you still be required to use PhotoShop and/or PixInSight to finish up your post work? What do you feel APP is lacking the most? Are there any other SW products that you'd recommend? Thanks for any guidance you can offer.

    Hi...great video..thanks. Could you describe the the parts of the computer you are using or your recommendations? Mine just plods along and seems to take forever. Under the integration tab, if I choose "2" in the scale window, I run out of hard disk space. I see the processor in the comments below but a complete description ...HD etc would help me design a new system. Thanks again for the tutorial.

    • @AstroAddict
      @AstroAddict  3 года назад

      The problem with the 2*scale: This scale parameter is inside the drizzle algorithm, which scales up EVERY sub frame BEFORE integration. Disk space for the integration is therefore quadrupled. I recommend running the working directory, or even APP on an SSD drive

    Ich habe einen Nebel mit einem Dual NarrowbandFilter von STC fotografiert und möchte nun HA und OIII separat errechnen.
    Das mach ich unter Tab 0 beim Algorithmus mit "HA-OIII extract HA" und "HA-OIII extract OIII".
    Danach sollte ich nach dem integrieren eine Schwarz/weiß-Bild bekommen.
    Das ist bei mir leider nicht der Fall und ich erhalte immer noch ein Farbbild.

    • @AstroAddict
      @AstroAddict  3 года назад

      The images you take at night have many impurities. The images of the object are called lights. To get rid of the impurities, we take additional images. These additional images contain only these errors. Dark's contain thermal noise, Bias' contain read-out noise, Flat's contain vignetting and much more. Even these frames are stacked, the final result is called a 'Master Bias/Dark/Flat', just as the 'Master Light'. After the correction masters are created, they are subtracted from the individual lights.
      It took me a while to learn about all these, but now they are tool i cannot miss.
