For $200 ,they are doable. I like the idea that the spark plug tubes gasket can be replaced. My main concern is, are they 100% leak proof when you install them? You have to be very careful with installing them. You have to use silicon adhesive in some corners and use a Torque Wrench for the bolts.
Is that what you have to do with the plastic ones with the rubber gasket?
@@AnthonyJ350 Yes, the sharp corners where it goes from horizontal to the vertical radius arches. I recommend Permatex "The Right Stuff" Gasket Maker. It can return to service in 90 minutes, although I prefer leaving overnight to cure.
the other day had Nissan quote me 2k plus for OEM DE valve covers that will just fail again, really glad to see this posted. Thanks Anthony
Crazy they want that much. Ya definitely get this version instead.
Lol I have some oem ones in my z1 cart right now for $440. Can't wait to see the review of this.
Going to be a little bit, just working on some quick repairs. So please hold tight 🙂
Can vq25de valve covers the same as vq35de the same
Are they the same or not
That I'm not sure of
Man can’t wait for the next video! I just ordered my valve covers and hopefully your video will be up by the time I replace mine. Really enjoy watching the 350z videos, keep up the great content! 👍
Thanks for watching! It depends when Raul wants to do the install as the video will be based off his car. I'm going to wait till the off season when I take my car off the road.
I'm going to get my intake Cerakoted and also coat these valve covers so the finish is more durable and I get the colour I want.
Do the screws underneath need threadlocker?
Yes, highly recommend taking them out, use thread lock blue and retighten.
Hello you just need these and the valve cover gasket? The valve cover doesnt need a gasket for the spark plugs or that is already included?
The valve covers come with gaskets for the valve cover and the spark plug tubes.
Let's pray they do for HR too..
Hopefully. I think there's a lot more DEs if you include the FX35 and similar platforms.
@@AnthonyJ350 yeah, but there are options for vq35de spark plugs tube seals, none for hr
@@bulgarianadvertising Ya for some reason when it comes to servicing parts, the DE gets more love than the HR. Is the HR valve cover the same as the 370Z?
@@AnthonyJ350 unfortunately no..
@@bulgarianadvertising Ahhh so the market would be pretty small. Hopefully someone makes it.
i use to work at a aluminum factory . here in NZ[ i did the clean ups on castings. some fine polishing is needed ] These castings, looks like are from high pressure casting machines , rough and smooth . . Not recommend on high quality polishing . for gloss
Thanks for sharing your experience! But a good candidate for sand blasting and Cerakote? You can barely see these valve covers when all the wiring and vacuum lines are installed.
@@AnthonyJ350 . sandblasting does help. but not to high pressure. we use a low pressure bean blaster machine. sometimes a stone tumbler . to clean items up. Depends on size. but those covers you got . will come up nicer.
Does the seals come glued down? On my driver side they popped out easily without any trouble. But on my passenger side I tried popping one out and ripped it. I have another seal on the way but I’m confused on why one side is like that. Any ideas? I sent them an email but no reply yet
Ours weren't glued
Just bought czp aluminum ones what do you think about them
So far so good. I just had mine powder coated red for durability.
@@AnthonyJ350 I think I’m just gonna check all the little screws inside the valve cover it self and throw them on as is do you think I’ll have any problems
@@Bluez3350z I would put thread lock blue on all the little screws.
Do these fit a VQ35HR by any chance? ☹️
I don't believe they do unfortunately
I just ordered these after two ITM (aftermarket) covers cracked on the track a few track days apart. Never had issues with these until after camming my Z. I’m hoping the issue will be resolved with these aluminum covers. I had not considered the heat soak issue; I do have a carbon fiber vented hood so it helps keep temps down, but I’d welcome suggestions to help avoid it or at least further compensate for it.
I would have the outside Cerakoted to help block heat emitting from the exhaust manifolds.
Also clearance wasn't an issue with the new cams on the older covers?
@@AnthonyJ350 negative, I did not do the work myself but that never came up, plus these cams and springs were designed by Tomei to drop right in
@@AnthonyJ350 here’s a dumb question, and I’ll see if I can find something online, but how does one cerakote something, and in this case valve covers?
@@svoncampe You'll need to have a professional shop coat them. This is the coating on my header ruclips.net/video/EXndd5ENXbQ/видео.html
Coating the exhaust is highly beneficial as well in my opinion.
I considered buying these but I’m worried about heat.
Simply because the factory plenum is aluminum and is horrible with handling heat, the heat soak is excessive. I switched to the kinetix v+ plenum for this very reason. Though power gains aren’t much (still noticable mid-top gains) I figured I could salvage whatever power was robbed from the high temps.
I’d imagine the same scenario with the valve covers as well, but I could be totally wrong. Do let us know how well they fare!!
I'm going to get these, and the upper & lower plenum Cerakoted to reduce heat soaking the aluminum.
@@AnthonyJ350 Definitely curious to see how well it can beat the heat compared to other intake materials. Next video idea? haha
What did your car dyno at with the V Plenum? Last time our car did 279whp and 260wtq. Will hopefully go back early next year with our new exhaust (already installed) and coated intake parts.
@@dheerajrajeevan4867 It will be a video for sure
@@AnthonyJ350 Have not dyno'd yet, i installed the kinetix last week along with my 5/16" blox plenum spacer. Yes, I stacked them together, rtv'd for a good seal. I was experimenting and wanted to see if it could squeeze out any top end gains. So far no check engine light, sounds pretty awesome, and my butt dyno can feel the difference. I can also feel a slight decrease in low-end torque which makes sense.
I have a DE with AFE Takeda intake, Megan Y-pipe, Tomei catback, and obv the recent kinetix + spacer. Was hoping I could tune after porting out lower plenum, but I may hold that off for later as I want to see what the kinetix and spacer yield by themselves.
I will report back when I get tune for sure👍🏼.
I don’t think the tube seal dimensions are OEM. They’re smaller, which fouls your spark plugs.
How did you come to that conclusion? And how would it foul the plugs?
@@AnthonyJ350 I have the same casting under the Mitzone brand which when compared side by side to oem, tube seals seem to be smaller diameter and some oil seeps into the tube. I have to inspect clean the plugs periodically as a result.
@@kevinsnelgrove4078 The seals weren't tight to the spark plug tubes?
@@kevinsnelgrove4078 If the seals are smaller, wouldn't it be tighter to the tube?
@@kevinsnelgrove4078 There's a "left" side and "right" side for the seals. Did you mix them up?
Any update on how these have been. Really need new valve covers my $40 off Amazon lasted a whole month
Did you buy metal or plastic versions? We're installing a set this upcoming weekend
@@AnthonyJ350 cheap plastic. Def not oem quality
@@joetambasco1904 Did the plastic crack on you?
@AnthonyJ350 no but 3 out of the 4 tube deals I checked had oil. And the 5th was literally bathing in oil. I order oem from z1 and said f it. But I do have a de motor I'm building as well and want to maybe try the aluminum if they work for you
@@joetambasco1904 Can't go wrong with OEM quality, I just hate how they make the spark plug seals non-serviceable. But makes sense for manufacturing.
Great video. Thanks for making this.
Do you happen to know if the PCV crossover breather hose plastic stem (specifically the passenger side one) butts up against/cracked when these are paired with the Kinetic velocity intake manifold? That is apparently a problem with the red Mitzone aluminum valve covers: ruclips.net/video/cyKb0q5TPZA/видео.html
It probably will because the setup is the same as Mitzone.
