Great video as always Nick! I was amazed by how you literally can hear the quality of the boat when you where down in the galley opening and closing the covers and doors. You have to love the solid clunk noise of quality wood closing with no creaking at all.
    Thanks as always!

This boat is full of performance, style, clever engineering, and expert craftsmanship that used to be Sunseeker, from the surface drives to that table that popped up. Apparently no longer, looking at their latest Superhawk 55.

10/10 for speed and style, no room even to breathe, miniature heads, just one cabin and it's also a mechanic's nightmare : i love this boat. It's a fine, fine instrument of torture for people who like to suffer in style. Makes Dolceriva look spacious and comfy. Did i say that i love it ?

Hi, yes another nice sunseeker , there use to be one in Christchurch and a very small boat mechanic , called Dennis Tomes , with a great heart who was the only one of compact size who could service the 3rd engine as there not handed . So when seeing his mobile workshop parked buy it , would tap on the hull and say nice boat and wait for Dennis to reply with very color full choice of words . God bless him RIP . And hope that God has not got one . Thanks for the tour Nick, now with a tear running down my check . Fun and sorrow all the way .

I’m glad you called it an Aston Marin. I always thought of Fairline, Princess and Sunseeker as being the ‘Ford’ of weekend/leisure boats. I’m always happy to be educated. Every day is a school day. 😘
    She’s *another* class beauty.
Hard to believe she’s 20+ years old.

    • @petergibbs
      @petergibbs 2 года назад +4

Princess and Sunseeker as the 'Ford' of leisure boats. You have some weird ideas Julie. I've always looked at Princess as being the Rolls-Royce of boats and Sunseeker as being the sportier Bentley versions. With Fairline as being the Jaguar range not quite up to the Bentleys and Rolls-Royces perfection, but all being stunning top range boats.

I remember thinking that these were, and still are, incredible value for the amazing engineering and performance you get. The snag, is of course in running costs. Apart from 33% higher engine servicing, your berthing fees will end up being for 50ft plus, giving you the same accommodation inside, as something around 34ft with a Fairline Targa etc. in a South Coast marina, that’s a lot of dosh every year.
That said, if you fancy a fast dash across the bay, your are never gonna get overtaken in this!

Fountain 38 Express cruiser. Goes 70MPH with the 525’s and cruises at 50MPH getting 1.2MPG. The Diesel version tops out at 55MPH but most impressively cruises at 40MPH while getting 2.3MPG. All while having two full sized beds and being under 38’. To put that into perspective the 50 superhawk gets .75MPG at only 36MPH. Burns almost 3 times the gas of the diesel 38 express at cruise speed.

Enjoyable as always and having watched the teaser for the new superhawk yesterday, the differences are vast!
A sleek and slender speed machine!
Also not seen surface drives with a rudder before, so interesting to compare against Arneson drives.

Glad to read I'm not losing my mind. It's been ages since I've seen pictures of surface drives, but I thought I recalled them pivoting at the transom like stern drives. This one had me puzzled until Nick pointed out how they qualified as surface drives. I used to see Arneson's boats go by, but of course I couldn't see the drives when they were in the water.

    Nice presentation as usual!
I think the wood finish at the cockpit is rosewood.
EDIT: The left side of the helm

I remember seeing these on catalogs back then!
    Still sexy!
I would re-upholster it, paint the blue gelcoat gray, and matte the cherry interior!
Can you pre-order it for me Nick?

Where is Maggie? You have a different bag 😁😁😁.. It is a narrow boat but there's a lot in it. Love the interior in the cabin and the hidden table. 😊😊😊

Totally agree with you. So much better than the new 55. If one does not mind the dealing with the age, it is quite nice. Seems as though having three iron lumps in the stern would not do well in the handling department. Would like to find out! Enjoy your Sunseeker videos.

Looks amazing and indeed it is sexy and as you say it is just built for just one thing speed, i also loved was the armchair style seating fantastic. They could just have strapped three engines on two big sunbathing areas and saved a lot of work on the rest of the yacht. Love seeing different things just not for me.

Getting the image of Austin Powers behind the helm. What a randy machine.

Beautiful it is and what condition it is in. Even for its age it still looks relevant. Thanks very much Nick Cheers

Not being a speed freak I think it just looks like a very expensive but very beautiful play thing. Loved the analogue instrument panel and the lounge area looked quite funky...a bit like a scary ride at a theme park! The curved wood is superb, no corners on anything, just beautiful curves. The boat itself is so not me but I can't help but admire it...as Ian said below. I also can't believe how immaculate the engine room is. A serious point now....these 20 year old boats, the body is often perfect, but I wonder what the normal wear and tear of moving parts is....by that I mean engine components...highly expensive engine components and gear boxes...components like those have a finite life and once they start to need replacement will pretty much right off the boat surely? What is the life span for a boat like this? The manufacturer must know how many hours you can realistically expect from the engine and gear box etc. Anyone?

Looks awesome. I love the style. Although you don't get a lot of room for the length and i couldn't tolerate the headroom.

Great to see a surface drive boat for the first time on this channel, I have been waiting for it! If I understand correctly its more common in the 'med?
