  • Record hunting in Bath, me and the wife hit the historic city hard trying to find records to add to my collection. We hit fairs, shops and markets to find those grails. Stick around to see what I brought home and some big news at the end.

    Happy Anniversary, Great job showing some out of the box bands and albums. Something many vinyl collectors do not know about. great turn ons.
    When you showed these albums....I paused and dug into them and gave a listen. So the turn ons are greatly appreciated.
    I also enjoy showing these type of bands and exposing them to Music fans. cheers

    I love Bath Martin. Looks like you struck gold with the weather. I got that Smith album when it was first released, one of her best. Also saw her the year before at CBGBs. Glad you found another Dr. Brown album, and with the background information. Hope you get to Amoeba. Cheers.

    It looks like Bath has some good sources for records, particularly Green Park Station and the record shop inside that appeared well stocked. Interesting purchases, as always Martin, titles I have not come across and I will check them out.
    If you are planning another day trip I might suggest visiting Chichester, it is a nice city. Most importantly though - there is a record fair held quarterly in the centre of the city by a different organiser to Soton and different sellers stall there. George posted a video a few months ago showing his visit to two small independent record shops in the city and he commented that prices were reasonable at those. A good day out could cover the fair and shop visits!

      Yes Chichester has been on the cards for a while 😅
      By the way that copy of Lynyrd Skynyrd was great!!! It was super minty, freebird has never sounded better 👍 👍 👍

    Brilliant haul there Martin, really excellent stuff.
    Sacrifice by Black Widow is a gem. Gets almost hilarious at times doesn't it, but a true one off. What was the seller thinking charging £85 on the first copy you passed up? Madness!
    Bath is a great and beautiful city, must get back there at some point (got engaged there). If you like that sort of place, I highly recommend Oxford - equally as lovely.
    Happy anniversary to you both 🙂

      A newbie here and really enjoyed your video.

      Thank you for Black Widow recommendation. I must confess never hearing of them before. However listened to Sacrifice many times now and ordered a first edition online yesterday, with misprint. Love it.

    Ha,ha. Recognise all the usual faces at the record fair. That stall at 1.30 is a really interesting chap from Bath.. He asked me to look after his stall for 5 minutes in Southampton and straight away someone tried to pinch a Rolling Stones albums .the look on his face when I caught him! Im a Patti Smith fan, got an autograpged first edition of her book..but never heard Radio Ethiopia.

    I didn't make it to Bath on my last trip, which I realize was quite a while ago. Really great records (though some are new to me). I hope you make it to Amoeba. My wife went there a year ago and she got me a t-shirt because she couldn't figure out what record to get for me.

    Bath used to have more indy record shops stocking new & 2nd hand vinyl in the mid to late 70s & on into 80s.
    Crusin' Records which morphed into Rubba Records was great for imports, rare records & reasonably priced secondhand vinyl.
    Get hold of the 2nd Black Widow album, I prefer it, but it does have an uninspiring cover, which does not reflect the music on that album, I don't know what they were thinking when they chose that cover art & later covers similarly well below par.

    • @martinthemartianvinyl
      @martinthemartianvinyl  Месяц назад +1

      Yes I definitely born in the wrong decade when it comes to music.
      The 2nd black widow is still very much high on my want list and I agree that is better but does have a worser cover.
      Thanks for watching 👍

    Magnificent city. Go there loads mainly for the rugby. Record shopping isn’t great though. I’m finding prices are ridiculous and consequently I’m hardly buying any records nowadays. Too overpriced. I picked up Black Widow at Bristol - first press for £4 a year ago! Found it underwhelming tbh. Revisited Radio Ethiopia recently. Pretty good. Love the UH Lp. Look at yourself is my favourite by them. Cheers fella

    I think the BBC had a big sell-off/auction of ex-library stuff earlier this year, hence the sudden glut of it, I reckon.

    • @martinthemartianvinyl
      @martinthemartianvinyl  6 месяцев назад

      Yeah I know, I actually signed up for that auction and won…….. nothing. Everything went for far too much, but I thought some would reappear on eBay and it did!!! And I got some killer stuff for a lot cheaper than it did on the auction. I also keep seeing them when I go digging.
      I don’t know if you are sub (please do if you haven’t) but I have mentioned the records I have gotten from the BBC library in my past videos. 👍

      @martinthemartianvinyl  6 месяцев назад

      Hi Tim! Are you familiar with Discogs at all? I don’t really like talking about the costs, but the more expensive ones I paid for almost half of what it says on discogs and the cheaper records I paid no more than £15.
