I love my Suhr. I was recording in a local studio and the guy recording came out and asked what I was playing. He really liked the tone.
When the sound engineer asks what you're using, that's when you know it's good.
Thanks for this. This and a few others convinced me to get this guitar (Sonic blue, HSS, roasted neck and blue) and I seriously have improved more in the past 3 months with this guitar than I have in 3 years.
Congrats!! I was between Sonic Blue and what I got. It's a beautiful color and a great guitar. Glad you're enjoying it.
A versatile guitar for a very versatile musician ! 🎸 Wow: is there any genre that you don’t play ? Kudos man: came for the guitar, stayed for the playing 👍🏻
Thank you so much for the kind words!
Great video solid info. Convinced me to buy a Suhr. Thanks for publishing this.
hey please please do it. fantastic guitars, can only speak highly of them
Suhr strats are my go-to for all recordings and live performances...
I have a 2014 in Tobacco Sunburst with Lollar Dirty Blonde's. The Gotoh 510 trem-system has phenomenal tuning stability & return-to-pitch. Suhr Locking tuners are rock-solid. I actually sold my vintage Fender Stratocaster. There was no comparison. My Suhr is on another stratosphere.
I bet those Lollars sound amazing. I have a pair in my tele. And I agree, there is no comparison!
@@shelbyguitarmusic They do. My search for: "my-dream-tone" has ended with the Lollars. I can get: SRV, Knopfler, Gilmour, Trower & Nile Rodgers tones. Makes me wanna play clean ( plug straight in ) for hours.
@@michael_caz_nyc Maybe I will get a pair for my Suhr...
@@shelbyguitarmusic Check out Shawn Tubbs - he is a huge Lollar-fan - and has them on some of his guitars. Good Luck brother.
I've been watching this video for so long and at the end (Thank's to your honest video) i bought it in sonic blue and this guitar sound awesome. Thank you so much!
Congrats! Thanks for the kind words, and enjoy the guitar!
I have a Suhr T with the F hole and 3 TV Jones Pickups - you are right the guitar is very easy to play - love the SS frets and the sound has received a lot of comments how crisp and clean it is. The roasted maple neck is the best neck of any of my guitars - the only thing is I wish it had the cutaways to get around my stomach
I bet those pickups sound great. I just got my own Suhr tele and I agree about the cutaways! Good to hear you love the guitar though. They are great instruments.
I have the SSS one and couldn't agree more with your views on the guitar and Suhr
Great playing and insight from someone else in the DMV! I'm a Gaithersburg-based church player, and a LEFTY who has a really hard time playing guitars I'm interested in before a purchase. You mentioned "rolling the dice", man that's all I do! After years of buying and selling I'm down to a Duesenberg Starplayer (beautiful and very versatile), a Gretsch Tennesse Rose (great cut in a big band situation), CS Jazzmaster (too noisy for church but I love it) and a few others. I've had a bunch of strats but have never embraced any of them ... that said, they're like a food group, a very important tool for a musician who wants to be able to produce certain sounds effortlessly. Well, I *just* bought a Classic S Antique online, and I'm really hoping it will be the end of my strato-quest. Seeing this video made me very hopeful! Thanks again for sharing your experience...you've earned a follow for sure!
I've used this Suhr for church a TON. Its versatility truly gives me the freedom to nail all those sounds in my opinion. You have a great arsenal!
Hello sir wonderfull channel and inspiring music I wonder how its neck differs from other strats ? and if you know is ''Even C medium ''is more comfortable than ''60s vinatge standard ''?
Hey there, thanks for the kind words. This guitar has the most comfortable neck I've ever played, but that is of course subjective. I have large, thin, hands and everyone is different. Just gotta try a bunch of things out!
The only thing I would complain about is the neck joint. It’s not rounded off like some other strat like guitars such as Ibanez j custom. It’s so much more comfortable when it’s rounded. But they did slim the block down so it’s still more comfortable than a fender Strat. But yea I agree very close to perfection indeed.
Since making this video, I've acquired an Ernie Ball MusicMan Luke3 and it has a carved neck joint. I must say, you're spot on. I wish my Suhrs had it too!
Actually, the Fender Ultra has has a rounded neck joint/contoured heel. I play one as well a Suhr Classic Pro. Both nice guitars.
The Silver Sky also has a nice rounded neck joint that access super easy! A 2022 Silver Sky in dodgem, and a 2017 Suhr Classic Pro HSS are my go to’s!
Some for me on all these points. Such good guitars.
Im about to buy this one. Btw nice playing cheers👍
Great choice, you will love it. And thank you!
Great video...with that Even C Medium .840-.920 neck, do you feel it's pretty thick at the 1-3 frets? I'm also a "thumb over the neck" player and was curious how the shoulders are...if it's comfortable. Thanks!
Hey there. This neck is the most comfortable I've ever played, from top to bottom. I have fairly thin, long hands. I'm easily able to do anything I want on this neck and it always stays comfortable.
How do you find the neck holds up to the change of seasons? I live in Japan and it goes between very dry in winter, and very humid in the summer time. Thanks! and great demo video!
I've had absolutely no problems with the neck. It has been awhile since I've made this video and this guitar is still as fantastic as the day I bought it, if not better. I play it every single day and it is rock steady. Thanks!
@@shelbyguitarmusic thanks for the reply! have a great day :)
Awesome playing dude and great video! I’m seriously thinking of getting one, how do you find the tremolo reacts live? Say when going to drop d or if a string breaks?
Thank you! This is still my go-to guitar for gigging. For a long time, it was the only guitar I brought to gigs. I trust it that much, even when switching to Drop D off and on. A quick tune up after switching and you're good to go. It has been a very, very, long time since I've broken a string even though I use .9s, so I don't have a solid answer for you there.
Thank you so much dude that really helped!! 😊
is there a diffrence between your suhr and a classic antique??? thanks!
Yes, it depends on the production year, but a Classic Antique will be finished in nitrocellulose while my guitar is finished with polyurethane. The pickups in the Classic Antique are also different. The Antique comes with Michael Landau pickups which will be a bit hotter.
The Antique will feel like a more broken in guitar while the Classic Pro is sleek and refined. It would be up to personal preference at that point.
Yo super great video man
Why the Orange amp? Are they any good? Also, could you compare the Classic Pro with the Classic S? Loved the vid btw :) Why do musicians wear beaded bracelets?
I bought a Classic Pro today - it was a Peach Guitars dealer's special - there's a 12 month waiting list for Suhr in the UK, dang it.
I don't have an Orange amp actually. Everything heard in this video is from various amp models in my Line 6 Helix. The Classic Pro is a more refined version. It will feel sleeker but less broken in. The bracelet was a handmade gift from an orphan child in Costa Rica. I haven't taken it off in almost 10 years, haha.
@@nedludd3641 Jeez, 12 months!
@@shelbyguitarmusic Thanks for that. There's an Orange amp in shot, I assumed it helped make the sounds. The Classic Pro was succeeded by the Classic S. You suggest the Classic S is a rawer sounding guitar then?
I see you put in a Grosh humbucker...have you tried any of their strat style guitars? I sometimes see them mentioned alongside Suhr classics.
I have not had a chance to play one, but I know they are well loved by their owners. Also, if a Grosh is good enough to be Mark Lettieri's main guitar, I think that says a lot.
Nice playing! Guthrie Trapp as an influence as well? I heard some "Pick Peace" in the intro.
Nice ear! I am one of Guthrie's students. And thank you for the compliment!
Cool vid, nice player
Great video! Looking to buy a Suhr. I'm reading that some of the Classic models splits the coils automatically in position 2. Does the model you own do that or is that a more recent implementation? I also would want to add a blender tone knob so I can use the neck and bridge combined. mark lettieri has this feature in his Don Grosh and his new PRS Fiore has this feature.
So sorry for the delayed response! I'm afraid I don't know the answer to that question. I don't believe that my model automatically split the coils in pos. 2. I think that blender knob is an incredible idea. Didn't know that Mark's Fiore had it!
Nice playing!! 🙏
Thank you!
HI, first off, great video and playing, both are top shelf! I am on the same Lettieri kick! Can you tell me where you got the technical/wiring info on tapping the bridge? Any other info I would want to know before attempting the same mod? Thank you for any help and info! Subscribed
Hey there! Sorry for the late response, somehow missed this one. I will do some digging to find the information I used to handle the coil tap and get back to you. If I can't end up finding what I used, there is definitely a lot of great information out there that will get you on track. Best of luck, and I'll do my best to find what I used! Have a great day mate.
I swear I can hear Shawn Tubbs as being one of your main influences. Are you a fan of his?
Wow great ear. I studied his playing for a good while.
@@shelbyguitarmusic Hah, that's awesome. He's an amazing player... Mission accomplished!
@@SteveHubbardGuitar Thanks, you rock!
Oh my Grosh
Nice playing and review, sir! That Grosh Small Block 327 sounds fantastic when split. That guitar and a Helix and what can't you cover?
I feel the same way! No tone is safe!
You seem to have the pickup flush to the pickguard. any reason for that at all ? great playing by the way!
Good observation! It's a bit of a camera illusion because it's not totally flush, but it is relatively low because it was giving too much of a volume boost relative to the single coils. Thanks for the compliment!
Could this guitar be considered the Fender Strat replacement?
Triple S or HSS ?
Why would you prefer Dark board instead of mapple?
Hmm, I am not sure that I would say that any guitar is a replacement for another. I think every instrument brings something different and worthwhile to the table.
The HSS has been right for me, but a buddy has the exact guitar but SSS and he loves it! I generally prefer the fuller sound of a bridge humbucker.
I went with the rosewood fingerboard because I tend to gravitate toward a warmer sound. I also prefer it aesthetically!
Great video! May I ask what guitar strap is that? Looks like a great strap.
It's a Neotech strap. I tried one out and immediately bought one for each of my guitars. I have chronic pain from a shoulder injury and this strap was a life saver for gigs.
@@shelbyguitarmusic thank you for your reply! What is exact model on that Suhr? Is it Mega or Jammin or something else?
@@suho_dreamer It's the Neotech Mega, Regular.
good demo thanks
Isn’t it that hard to configure a coil tap system? I’m thinking of doing it on my own.
It was relatively simple with the pickup I put into mine because it came wired for a coil tap from the get go. It was just a matter of wiring up the push pull knob to the appropriate spots. I don't know too much beyond that, but I'm sure there are plenty of resources online to get you going. Good luck!
@@shelbyguitarmusic oh nice! Thanks dude! And I think suhr customer supports are too nice to help me on that matter.
@@CharLessMajor7Music Suhr customer support is amazing and will definitely help you out!
How do you like the ML Bridge pickup? Have you ever tried or compared it to the V60LP?
I really like the ML pickup. It's low output and dynamic. I also really like the V60LP. It's definitely a different sound, perhaps bit more "modern" sounding, if that makes sense.
Best strat! I have the same model SSS
Me too:) SSS did you open the pick guard? Has space for Humbucker in bridge ?
@@lucianmezinoi8536 yes I emailed Suhr (which they are very responsive) and they said all bodies are routed for humbumckers already!
@@tybuisch wow thanks a lot !! Appreciate
Got pro s2...love it...
Does it have compound radius? what brand is that tele there
Hey there. Yes, it is a compound radius (9"-12"). The rest of the specs are in the description.
The tele in this video is actually a fake King Bee Telecaster. The guy I bought it from was essentially scammed and didn't know it and now it's in my possession. Long story...
Great and helpful video, thank you! Would you be able to do a similar video on your Suhr Tele?
Thanks! I have been waiting to make a video on the Tele until I had at least a couple years of hard gigging with it, and I'm at just about 2 years so I think it's time! I'll make a similar video once I have some time on my hands. Thanks!
@@shelbyguitarmusic is it the Paulownia model? If so, is the wood really soft (dents easy)?
@@lrblouie Yes, it is Paulownia. I haven't noticed any denting but I'll check it and talk about that in the video.
@@shelbyguitarmusic Thank you!
Possum Kingdom!
Does the stainless steel fret last?
Yes. I have put hundreds upon hundreds of hours on these frets and they still have plenty of life left.
let us praise the gong people.
What strap is that?
It's made by a company called Neotech. They use memory foam padding in a wide strap, and it's very comfortable. It helps with a shoulder injury I have that would flare up on long gigs. Definitely recommend!
@@shelbyguitarmusic Thanks. Just bought one of these straps. Waaay better than my $100 "leather" strap. Also bought a suhr class s, hss, olympic white. sooo good. can't stop playing it. help. 😍
@@nalidbass Awesome! You won't regret it.
The olympic white is so nice looking. Congrats on the guitar.
3:01 Hey, you're not allowed to play that chord, it's owned by Alex Lifeson.
If you want a Stratocaster sounding guitar buy fender
You should educate yourself on guitars a little. Fender quality is garbage nowadays and suhr is on another level.
@@shred9080 Maybe Fender quality is garbage (even though its not) but Suhr will never sound like fender
@@Rockguitar-music no it will
Sound better. Fender is overrated just like Gibson. I understand you are a old school fan boy but fender is nothing but a name.
@@shred9080 not an old school just fender will always sound like fender all the rest will sound different not better or worse just different
Looks like a fender, sounds like a fender, but the price is four fold.
Yeah, just like comparing a squire and fender custom shop. Just buy the squire. The fender is way too overpriced
Not even close to 4x the price of a Fender USA, and not as expensive as Custom Shop, but every bit as good as Fender Custom Shop. Play one and then have an informed opinion. You’re paying for attention to detail, fit, and finish. These are things you have to feel when you play the instrument.
Yes I must say while it is definitely Strat inspired, I have this exact guitar and it blows any of my Strats out of the water. I have an American Limited Strat, a couple older Mexicans, a few Squier’s, a Core Silver Sky. Up until I played the Suhr Classic, I thought the SS was the nicest strat style guitar for me. NOPE. This Suhr is absolutely worth the price on it imo.
