Thanks Lee! This was helpful because I’m getting my boat ready for spring and I need clothes for Texas springtime sailing. I already have a PFD so I was looking at what people are wearing.

Nice to promote safety. I was looking thru the old Sunfish Bible and reading stuff in old magazines about Sunfish sailors who wore ballast vests with water bags or actual weights, to let them hike better, or layers of thick, absorbent clothing meant to soak up water and get heavy, and I'm thinking to myself: "that's crazy!" I assume that stuff was ruled out long ago, because it would have led to more drownings in accidents.

Definitely not a very safe thing to do wearing weight. It also was more conducive to injuries.

Every boater has a PFD and every PFD has a boater. Boating since the 1960s we've seen a few lifejackets come and go, I use a jacket from NRS with more storage (ruclips.net/video/IHmCWQgh868/видео.htmlsi=MFsJdwpp5BizKpTO) and SKipper has an slimmer Extrasport with cooling mesh and foam airflow ridges inside. (ruclips.net/video/VUmFEN_AORI/видео.htmlsi=fDRRTHa3AtYKp1vX) As you mentioned, fit is important, a good snug fit that will not ride up in the water, which will be different for every body type. And for folks watching the video, keep in mind these folks are at a regatta with lots of other boats, including safety boats. Solo sailors in remote areas may want a PFD with a little more storage for at minimum the required whistle. We have pockets for a flashlight, knife and a small signal mirror, and cell phone with SatNav SOS or a SatNav based PLB, but we go in some areas where we're the only boaters and there may not be cell coverage. Cue banjo music.
