Kyotosomo The Japanese are by far the greatest voice actors. In fact, what they show is that no one outside of Japan is fit to be a voice actor, period.
Literally watching billy and mandy last night and saw this video. Such a talented voice actor and had no idea he was such a massive part of my childhood.
Tsukasa Hiiragi Same here, dude. I grew up with his voice on my television everyday, and never knew it was he who did so many of the voices to the cartoons I watched.
Jym E. Changa Are you are of its meaning? You are aware that a word can have several uses yes? One way for the word literally is for strong emphasis so she used the word correctly. Go be a miser somewhere else.
The clip at the end made me wonder if he plays Kotal Kahn in the Mortal Kombat games. EDIT: It is indeed him. In fact that clip is straight from the game.
I remember him as the UPS guy on MadTV, I loved that show. I never understood SNL, but Mad TV was right up my alley. Edit: I indeed was a 14 year old in the 90s
This is why I love cartoons. Talented voice actors can voice multiple characters at once. And talk to themselves in the same scene but sound like completely different people. I didn't even know Phil voiced Static Shock. Sounds so young and different.
A great example of this is Family Guy. Seth MacFarlane voices like at least 10 characters on that show. Peter, Brian, and Stewie just to name a few. This has resulted in almost 20 minutes worth of Seth talking to himself in different voices. It's truly amazing.
I met Phil Lamar at a Futurama-con back in 2014 in Hollywood. Unfortunately he couldn't stay long because he had his son with him and they had to leave early. I didn't get a picture with him either, just a hardy handshake and said thanks for being a fan! ☺
Weekenders was such an underrated show. Four kids hanging out on the weekend in Southern California near the beach. There was legit a new pizza place every episode...most pop-punk cartoon ever
I thought DC obtained the rights cause didn't they have a comic series for Static and plus he is in Young Justice so isn't he a DC property? I know he wasn't originally DC owned
Ajnicehair19 DC owned the publishing rights they but never actually owned the character. I don't know how DC got to use him in YJ but they can't put him in games and comics atm, because of a legal battle with Dwayne McDuffy's (creator of Static) wife.
20 Dollar Gold Piece Thanks for that piece of information. I had heard that DC was in the process of trying to get his film rights, I guess to use him in a future film.
He was one of the funniest on Madtv. Him, Kevin Michael Richardson, Cree Summers are some of the best voice actors because they do such a great job and all memorable.
I think I first knew him as Carver from Weekenders. And then I found out he was Static, and the James Marsden was both Tino from Weekenders AND... Static's friend and, well, that was my first headcanon.
Lots of talent! I'm not a voice over actor, but I can at times, mimic a young girls voice and laugh. I can also mimic, in some ways, certain phrases, laughs/giggles, and screams of certain cartoon characters. I've been playing around with voices, since I was about 4-5 years old. It was something that helped me keep sane, and SOMETIMES kept me away from drug abuse. 😞
kimzee59 truthfully I didn't know that wen I played the game, I always just knew he was Sig. I just looked up a video of count veger an yes now I can hear it, Great voice actor!
Yah You ! I may be wrong about this, But I believe that he also did the voice of GT Blitz in Jak X. I mean, Phil Lamar seems to have quite a few roles in Jak games.
It's crazy how the voice acting industry in major films is non existent, with major studios giving roles to actors with big names rather than voice talent. Hollywood prioritizing making money and filling seats, than having the best quality product possible. Television is probably the last place where career voice actors can still make their mark.
To be honest, I find relying on big name talent in both live action and animated productions to be a bit pointless at times. A lot of people don't go to movies simply for actors they like. And a lot of animated movies use live action actors that aren't very famous, usually to their benefit. And don't forget Video Games.
Tough statement to back up. Mel had more iconic characters and more iconic voicings for those characters. He also built his reputation in an era with far less media and demand, and voice actors in many cases weren't even credited. Phil's got a large catalogue to be sure, but is less recognizable than someone like Jim Cummings, let alone Mel Blanc. I don't mean that as in "he blends into the role perfectly", rather that the voicings are forgettable and could have been thought up and executed by many others. Phil's had a great run though, I don't think he's bad at his job. But "Modern Mel Blanc"? C'mon buddy
Phil Lamar was also in Spider Man 2 released in 2004. It's the scene where Spider Man (Tobey McGuire) is trying to stop the runaway locomotive. Phil Lamar is inside the train standing right behind Spider Man on the right.
