  • In todays video, Levi demonstrates how to properly install a windshield coating using Diamond Protech (Diamond Glass)! This durable coating boasts INSANE water behavior, reduces chances of Glass Pitting, and resists frosts from sticking to Glass! Let's coat this thang!
When installing ANY Glass Coating, prep is key! For best adhesion of a glass coating, cleaning, claying, and even polishing may be needed. In today's case, this new windshield only needed a clay using the Ultra Clay Scrubber. After the glass is free from contaminates, the coating prep spray MUST be used in order for the coating to stick. Without the prep spray, you can expect the coating to prematurely fail.
So why do you NEED a glass coating? First and foremost, it's easier to clean! Coated glass usually doesn't require much use of windshield wipers due to the contact angle of the coating and how fast water flies off. Secondly, the coating offers another barrier of protection against sand and debris that could result in pitting. Lastly, it will keep frost from bonding to the glass in the cold winter months. Meaning that a couple swipes of the wipers can easily remove frost with minimal effort. A great feature for people up north!

For me I installed the first time in high humidity but indoors in the evening. Some spot instantly turned into high spots and needed to be polished to be removed. I tried again in the winter and the application went a little better. Only complaint after that was that my drying towel would lint on the windshield glass.

I've used and like this product however you have to prime the applicator. Directions say add 15 drops. That's definitely not enough. Once applicator is primed it is super easy to use. I agree it evaporates before you need to wipe. I've done 3 vehicles and still have product left

For my car, I've found that with Diamond glass, it likes to bead, and stay put. It takes a lot of wind force to push the water off (Freeway speeds with wind gusts). I installed new wiper blades when I did the coating, and it has zero judder with Bosch Icons. For winter, I've noticed that because it likes to bead, if you get into a freezing scenario the water won't freeze in a sheet, and usually I can just run my finger tips over the glass to loosen the beads, then shove them to the side with the wipers.
I was hoping the water would fly off better while driving, but with the water beading instead of laying flat, it definitely makes driving in the rain super easy, and you don't have to run the wipers as hard. Lowest wiper setting is usually more than sufficient.

Same for me. It beads water well but doesn't start to fly off until highway speeds.

My dealership sold me on a thing where they do this (or some equivalent) to the windshield couple times a year. Now that I see how easy it is to DIY, probably could have saved myself some of that money.
Question: Is there any reason I could not, or should not, do this on my rear window? I drive a hatchback with a rear wiper, and it would be nice if the water would bead and run off better, especially beyond the reach of that wiper. Only thing I can think of... rear window unlike the windshield has the defroster wire lines running across, maybe those lines or their heat would affect the coating?

You can definitely do it to all glass surfaces. Side windows and rear windows.

Are resin based coatings ok to have on cars with safety, mitigation camera systems such as eyesight and other devices stuffed behind the front glass.

try claying the windshield or cleaning it once a week. could be the pores of the coating are clogged with dirt/pollen
