I am so grateful for all of you! When I was 15 I went to EFY BYU and heard John Bytheway. Brother Brad Wilcox taught my BYU BofM 101 class in 1987. I still have my notes and papers because you were so kind and encouraging to me! I learned so much and I wrote in my scriptures the things I learned. I still use that BofM today. It honestly was a life changing class and I thank you for strengthening my testimony at such a young age! These chapters discussed today will forever be my favorite scripture! Thank you for your wonderful examples and time and effort to teach us! ❤

Great insights. The time line of a year between the destruction and Christ's coming to the Bountiful temple really was eye opening to me. I read it many times but didn't pick up on it. As a young adult convert I know what a year will do in the life of a convert. In less than a year I have seen a new convert go from being baptized to being trained as a ordinance worker in the temple, because he's there's every week doing ordinances since the week after his baptism. His wife is right by his side too. We are children of God and He love each one of us with a perfect love.

John! You just mentioned Brad’s brother. I just visited with a friend with from California ( I recently moved to Tooele). He told me he had worked with your brother who created “Bytheway boxes” for the church. My friend was trying to explain how smart your brother is and I didn’t understand any of it. 😅. Must be nice to have such smart men in the family!!!❤. You were also my major support when I was baptized in 1997 (at 40 years old). I was called to be the YW President 1 year later! I didn’t know where to begin. In fact I yelled at the bishop that he did not pray about it. 😮. Your talks helped me relate so many things to those beautiful young’s spirits. ❤❤❤

In 1985, Bro Wilcox did one of the first EFY for our youth in the Nashville TN Stake Center in Madison, TN. At the time, he was a 4th grade teacher. He was awesome! He was there with Vivian Cox, Mrs Utah (?), and another sister. We had an wonderful time. He later mailed me an autographed copy of his book,"Watts Under Your Bushel". He's been a favorite ever since.

Thank you Brother Wilcox for etymology on "Blessed" Consider the term given to John the Revelator and the 3 Nephites - These are the "Blessed Disciples" because they were translated, i e made exalted and holy. Jesus visited a number of people after His resurrection, the accounts in the Bible and the BOM are only two. When we receive the records of all these peoples, I wonder how many will have disciples who also became translated, or exalted, and were called the "blessed Disciple"?

Such wise counsel for our day. It makes me think of President Nelson also asking us to "Think Celestial". There are many reasons the Lord revealed these two words to His Prophet. It all starts with our thoughts. We likely won't do Celestial or Become Celestial if we are not first thinking Celestial.

Since it was about a year from the time of the “great storm, such an one as never had been in all the land” (3 Nephi 8:5) until the actual appearance of the Savior, “showing his body unto them, and ministering unto them.” ( 3 Nephi 10:18). In 3 Nephi 11:1 we read about the “great multitude gathered together…and they were marveling and wondering one with another, and showing one to another the great and marvelous change which had taken place. There are many reasons to marvel and wonder but the one that comes to my mind is the completion of the repairs and rededication of the temple in Bountiful. With all the destruction that took place at the beginning of the year that there would have been damage to the temple. The people would have spent the year repairing the temple and had gathered to see the completion and possibly a rededication of the temple. It seems to me that this event would have caused the people to gather at the temple, and what an occasion for the Savior, Jesus Christ to appear. Just my thoughts

I also was thinking about the time it took for the people to be prepared. In our day, it’s a year minimum after the baptismal date that new converts can take out their endowments. So it was a year of preparing for the survivors in 3rd Nephi to meet the Savior at the temple. Mind blowing! I’ve been a member for over 40 years and I’m just now seeing this.

    I found this...
So the Nephites (people of the BofM) did have Authority to Baptize..right?
Although these Nephites had authority to baptize in the old Mosaic dispensation, Christ invited Nephi forward to affirm his priesthood authority to baptize in the new gospel dispensation, and perhaps to ordain him to the apostleship at the same time [see 3 Nephi 11:18-21; History of the Church, 4:538; D&C 20:38].

I question Clifford Jones, whoever he may be, as to his interpretation of the time Christ actually appeared. As I read 3 Nephi 10:18, I interpret it as Moroni making an editorial comment that he’ll show us that by the end of the 34th year, the Nephites had been amazingly blessed and taught. Moroni states very clearly that Christ appeared SOON after His ascension to heaven.

I was studying chapter 11 to the end of 3 Nephi again, in response to this section of the video, which repeats a narrative I’ve heard from others lately, namely that Christ appeared as much as a year later, and I completely agree with the conclusion you stated here - word for word! Who is Clifford Jones, anyway?
Chapter 27, verses 1 and 2 give an account of disciples journeying, preaching, baptizing, gathering, fasting, praying mightily, and Christ showed himself unto them ‘again.’ Certainly time had passed and Christ’s appearances had not yet ended. I believe as I always have that Christ first appeared very shortly after the darkness ended, and that Moroni’s editorial comment refers to the whole of His appearances not to the beginning.
Thank you for stating it in a way that clarified my thoughts.

    • @annaolsen3068

How do we know when our actions partnered with anger are acceptable to the Lord? I remember Jesus Christ, in anger, used the whip to chastise and drive the people away from the synagogue as they were using the sacred space for commercial activities. I am having trouble reconciling this with the prophet’s counsel to not throw anything in anger/peacemaking

It appears that the whole of chapters 12-13:1-24 was given to the multitude. Then in 13:25, he turns to the 12 and gives them their own instructions, meant only to them. How does he do this? Does he take them to a room or some other way separate them from the multitude for this “Church handbook type instruction.” Later he again turns to the multitude and yet again has instructions for the twelve. Can we divide those instructions listed in 3 Nephi and apply them to the Sermon on the Mount those divisions listed in Matthew?
Is then the New Testament corrupted by the compilers and missed the important tenants to the 12 and given a mistaken view to new members that they by virtue of attendance assume they have apostolic authority without ordination and structure?
I think the BofM has once again given us the appropriate guidance to church government and process.
Any comments? Thanx for your guest for his incite and spirit. His doctrine is so filling.

That "surgeon" who actually threw a scalpel in the OR should have never been called Doctor again. I can't imagine that level of incompetence among medical professionals.
But in the current medical system, that surgeon was probably considered above all laws, ethics and rules of conduct.

Why were the people gathered together at the temple about a year after the destruction in the Americas? I was thinking about this. Christ was crucified on Passover. After his death there was a great earthquake in the old world and massive destruction in the new world from all kinds of natural forces. If the people that survived in the new world were the more more righteous they could have been continuing to follow the Hebrew holidays. A year later it would have been the time of Passover again so could they have been gathered together on this holy week and discussing the changes and how they should or could observe this holy time of the year? Once Christ appeared he clearly tells them that the law of Moses is fulfilled and they should no longer offer blood or burnt sacrifices, but he also had told them this earlier when they heard his voice from heaven in chapter 9. Later he very clearly teaches them that contention is of the devil. Could they have been confused and contending about the law of sacrifice? Perhaps some of them heard the voice and others did not

Thanks for this helpful vid - but I don’t understand why the sermon on the mount - which is often about being overly religiously showy -would apply to the remnant of the Nephites and Lamanites who were living at the time. They were from a wicked society, not a self righteous one. Why did Jesus give almost the exact same speech to such a radically different audience?
