    In this video I assemble the Granberg small log chainsaw mill. I also assemble a first cut rail system from Amazon and grind my own ripping chain with a budget chain grinder. A chain saw mill is the perfect solution to high lumber prices if you have projects to complete. I am lookin forward to using this chainsaw mill to make all the lumber that I need for those outdoor buildings and projects that I have I have been putting off due to absurd lumber prices that we currently have to deal with in the United States.

    As far as that " Swoop " at the beginning and end of the cut.
    I have evolved into cutting the log 6" or 12" longer and just trim the ends afterwards.
    The " Swoop " is hard to avoid for some reason.

      For sure, and it let's us use the dead trees. We don't have a wood stove so it all just rots on the ground.

    You know I will be here Mr. Dave. Suggestion to prevent the swoop at the end keep the logs longer until you mill them then trim to length Sir .

    A chainsaw mill is on my tool list to acquire. I've seen a number of videos where shims are stuck in right behind the saw before it exits the log cut, reduces the wain at the end of the cut.

    • @MakersMovementDIY
      @MakersMovementDIY  3 года назад +2

      I used shims on the length of the cut but I didn't think about doing it just at the end. Good idea, thanks.

    Looks like a good investment. I have been thinking of investing in one. Please keep us posted on your journey with it.
    Lumber prices are just stupid here considering I live within 300 km of a lumber mill. Spoke with one company and they are probably not going to cut logs this year. And there goes the price upwards again.
    Stay safe and healthy. 👍🍻

      Yea there are a few mills around here also but the lumber prices have tripled on most things.

    If you use a full chisel chain it makes a smooth enough cut and it's faster. I use my 660 with a full chisel cross cut chain and it looks the same as my bandmill, the semi chisel chains make a washboard look I have found

    • @MakersMovementDIY
      @MakersMovementDIY  2 года назад +1

      Good tip, I'll try it out. But now I have a bandsaw mill also so this will only be used for field work or logs that won't fit on the mill.

      I think it's the perfect size for most farm work. I have about six other Stihl saws (0 series) but thay all need to be worked on. Neighbor gave them to me because he was decluttering.

      @@MakersMovementDIY I haven't seen the HF sawmill in person but I know Stewart from Breaking Free Off Grid just bought a sawmill thats made by Norwood but its their less expensive line up.
