Hey Larry, hope all is good. This was a very good time for an oilers fan. Did not think it would happen again so soon without the great one!!!

@brentdraper1713 I know right I remember thinking there was no way they'd win another after Gretzky but it was definitely a pleasant surprise to see

And other stars were gone or hurt too. And Sather was no longer behind the bench.

The Oilers weren’t the absolute powerhouse they had been in the 80s, no.
But they still had an all time great captain in Mark Messier, savvy veterans like Kevin Lowe, Glenn Anderson, Jari Kurri, Craig MacTavish, Charlie Huddy, and Esa Tikkanen, toughness and grit in Steve Smith, Kelly Buchberger, Dave Brown, Craig Muni, and Jeff Beukeboom, youngsters that stood up like Adam Graves, Joe Murphy, Martin Gelinas, and Petr Klima, a heroic performance by an unproven goaltender in Bill Ranford, and a tactical mastermind behind the bench in John Muckler.

Please don't make me relive the Northstars-Blues Norris Division final. 😢 Although the Stanley Cup Final made me feel better

How big of a surprise was this outcome not having Gretzky anymore? And with Fuhr hurt?

This was Bourque's chance to win his Bruins the Cup. Oilers didn't have Gretzky and the Bruins were the best team in the league. But Ray just could never elevate his game in the playoffs. During the Rangers Cup run in 1994, Brian Leetch was a beast scoring 34 points while playing great defense and winning the Conn Smythe Trophy. That was the type of performance needed from Bourque for Boston to pull it out. But Bourque never had that "extra gear" in him come playoff time despite being a monster in the regular season. He had lots of playoff flops in Beantown.

He had 161 points in 180 playoff games with the Bruins. And was a +14. He led the Bruins in goals in this specific series. He did elevate his game. But he can't do it alone.

He was a phenomenal player and ya the Bruins definitely had an incredible chance to win and somehow didn't
