Here's the thing....tanks (Leopard2s/T-90s etc.) are not obsolete in any way. However, tanks---no matter how modern---can only succeed if they are a component of a properly balanced combined arms team which is intelligently employed against realistically achievable tactical and strategic objectives. There is no high-tech "wunderwaffe" that can win by itself when employed incorrectly. Even if a technology has a decisive edge, history shows us that such an advantage is only short-term as counter-technologies and/or techniques are soon developed.

    • @likemostthings

Tanks may not be obsolete yet but they will soon be.They are going the way of the battleship. In my opinion, in any scenarion where the adversary has modern artillery, guided misiles, Kornets and soon-to-be AI-powered loitering drones, tanks are little more than expensive metal coffins... hence why the Ukrainians are leaving their tanks whenever possible.
Probably also so why the Russians aren't even bothering to try to bring the T 14s to full production anymore.
You give me your tank's $10 million budget and the ocst of fuel, crew, maintenance, and transport and I'll buy about 500 Lancets for every tank, let's see if your tanks make it within 20 miles of my position... I don't like your chances.

However, I can still remember very well that the German taxpayer (and I think also the taxpayers in the other western "democracies") were promised that the western tanks will quickly end this war in UKRAINE... (to avoid the to justify
      costs for these deliveries)...
However, we have not been told how this war will end...
Burning LEOPARD tanks are neither evidence of a "game changer" nor an image boost for the German armaments industry.
When the Russian army suffered devastating casualties early in this war, the western world scoffed at the Russian
      tanks being no good...
I must say, the German "super tanks" on the battlefields in UKRAINE don't burn much worse either...

What helps Lancet-3 defeat Leo-2A6 is the fact that Lancet-3 DIVES onto the ROOF of the tank. Shaped charge into the roof will penetrate any tank that exists in the world currently. Both sides also use typical quadcopters for tank hunting: they strap an RPG grenade to them, look for a tank and dive onto its roof or motor-transmission cover, where penetration is more likely. It's all about targeting the weak spots.

High-value decoy targets that are deployed with active units, more sophisticated radar to detect along with aircraft to intercept, use of warning system based on audio detection of drone engine/propeller characteristics, and defensive anti-drones constantly in the air over the battlefield, etc.

Most common countermeasure against drone in militaries is ground-based EW system. Also both Russians and Ukrainians are getting more and more "anti-drone guns" that fire an EMP at it and drop it. Also depending on the drone itself, a basic SPAAGM would easily kill a medium-sized drone. As Pantsir has done repeatedly. Shit, the darn thing takes out HIMARS rockets, so drones aren't a problem.

In contrast, I would think that even single-use drones would have multiple layers of target acquisition (image, infrared, emissions, and GPS) however there are tradeoffs with weight, distance, and power. Recent wars have integrated the use of drones and exposed their usage and countermeasures to the public.

Probably also so why the Russians aren't even bothering to try to bring the T 14s to full production anymore.

4:41 this extra speed has *ridiculously small* impact on the effect of its cumulative charge (the only one with serious piercing effect on a modern tank). *Such a cumulative charge would pierce the tank anyway, even at zero relative speed.* So talking about the "impact" of speed on armor is quite out of the point. This is even less than some paintballs, and less than falcon birds attacking pigeons. This diving speed is definitely *not what damages an armor.* The military charge does.
The only significant advantage of such final approach speed is to make the Lancet *more difficult to intercept.* Otherwise it changes nothing to its effects and only make the targeting more difficult for the operator.

    • @eighthelement
      @eighthelement 11 месяцев назад +11

The benefit is that when targeting artillery, the enemy crew has less time to run and suffers more casualties. They typically spot Lancet few seconds before impact.
Training of operators is handled by simulators. After watching hundreds of Lancet impact videos, I believe operators are fairly competent.

@@-Lazy The Bradleys and Leopards in the video have been confirmed by the Russians to have their engines still running. As they're shown, they look like they're in a repairable state. There are even reports that some of them may have been recovered by Ukraine(those are unconfirned). T-72B3s used by Russia blow to smithereens when hit. At least, when in Western vehicles, the crew lives to fight another day. This has happened also not only in Iraq and Afghanistan: Even when a poorly trained military like the Saudi have lost Abrams tanks against Kornet missiles, their crew survived. Furthermore, on close inspection, those Bradleys date all the way to the 1991 Gulf War. I can assure you that most of the Leopards sent to Ukraine are 30+ year old A4s with a few being A6s. The sorry state of some I can attest to personally. The reality of this is: Ukraine is beating back Russia albeit slowly and painfully, using Western military surplus. One of the poorest countries in Europe against the allegedly 3rd most powerful military in the world. No amount of "LeOpArDs ArE nOt InVinCibLe" pro-Russian propaganda is going to change that.

The defensive structures of the "Surovikin line" along the entire length are built along the dominant heights and ridges. The defense is installed at a depth of 25-30 kilometers. Several separate protective zones have been erected between the defensive lines. In zone No. 1, closer to the front, there is an advanced line of defense consisting of several dozen platoon and company strongpoints. Those Ukrainian units that managed to break through the minefields came across these areas with a huge number of ATGMs and surveillance equipment. Between the advanced fortified area and the main line of defense there are about 25 kilometers of minefields, anti-tank ditches and other structures, it is almost impossible to break through them.
The only achievement of the APU offensive at the moment is the advance in the "gray zone" - an area that does not affect the combat capability of Russian troops.
At the same time, artillery and aircraft from the depths of the "Surovikin line" strike the advancing Ukrainian troops long before the main forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine approach not only to the front line of protection, but also to minefields.
What is wrong with the advance of the APU to the "Surovikin line"?
Despite the transfer of German Leopard-2 tanks and hundreds of Soviet-type tanks to the offensive area, Ukrainian formations interact poorly with each other. Often they engage in battle in an unfamiliar area, without coordinating actions with neighboring units, without up-to-date intelligence information and without fire support, as well as without centralized management.
In a number of cases, instead of units prepared for the assault, mechanized brigades that had already lost parts of heavy equipment were thrown to break through to the front line of the guard. The main task of such units is to occupy captured positions and hold them, as well as to clean up pockets of resistance, and not to storm positions controlled by the enemy.
Such cases are not uncommon due to the shortage of experienced commanders who die during strikes on command posts of battalions and brigades. Due to misunderstanding of the situation and incorrect orders, elite units, such as the 137th and 88th battalions of the 35th Marine Brigade, as well as units of the 37th Infantry Brigade of the AFU, are suffering particularly heavy losses. These formations advanced to the assault of the advanced guard lines exclusively on light vehicles - Oshkosh M-ATV and HTSV Wolfhound armored vehicles, as well as French AMX-10RC - equipment not suitable for breaking through echeloned defense.
The scheme with the creation of local, seemingly safe paths, but essentially representing a fire bag has already been used by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation both during the battles in the Sukhoi Stavka area in the Kherson region, as well as in the "Bakhmut meat grinder", a hand in the creation of which was also applied by General Surovikin.
What losses did the APU have in the offensive and what reserves remained?
During the 17 days of the offensive, the losses of the AFU amounted to approximately 17-20 battalions killed and wounded, which is equivalent to 16 thousand people or five brigades of 3,500 people each. In total, about 5 brigades out of 9 trained and equipped according to NATO standards were allegedly involved in the APU offensive, which means that more than half of the reserves prepared for the strike have already been destroyed.
In fact, the "Surovikin line" is gradually becoming a "second Bakhmut" for the Ukrainian army - more and more troops are needed for combat operations in this area, which, in addition to sending reserves, have to be removed from the front in Limansk, Kupyansk and other directions.

Tanks need an automatic turret cannon that would target and shoot everything that's incoming from top half-sphere to survive. Like those turrets that are installed on war ships.

So far, there are no confirmed destructions of Bradley and Leopard using Lancet drones. Too small a combat unit does not allow us to count on the effective destruction of Western equipment with serious armor protection. In addition, the Lancet drone can operate only during daylight hours, without creating problems for night movements of equipment of the Ukrainian army.

This war saw a major shift in cheap striking power in the form of disposable drones being more available to a lot more countries, even countries as isolated and hit by sanctions as Iran ... this is changing warfare in a major way, almost as significantly as the arrival of gunpowder did. The wars of today and tomorrow are going to be ever more wars of drones.

The West lies permanently to their peoples. The USA lies to the people is that they are the gratest. They are the best and must rule the world. Don't forget that russians were the first to put a human (Yuri Gagarin) in the space and the landing of man on the moon was a lie so as not to lose face in confrontation with the Russians. You Americans are permanently deceived by your politicians. For example, West beat the Nazis, but the Soviets beat them and arrived first in Berlin. And much more to tell you about lies of your warmongers.
