Mongolia River Outfitters are the best. Fished with the same guides you had (except Fabian). Tulga and Zolboo are awesome! And the head guide, Jack, is great, too. Glad you had a great trip!
IS THAT HOW YOU SPELL IT!? When he introduced himself I thought he said "Togo" and I said, "Like the sandwich place?" And he said yes, so I figured it was Togo. And I've seen it written down, so I didn't know! I feel like a total a-hole! Sorry Tulga!! Yes, MRO is amazing and the guides are top notch--they work their butts off on the daily.
Actually I think it's Tsogo? He is another guide (who I haven't met) who looks a lot like Tulga! They usually keep the guides together, so I got thrown off by Jack and Zolboo being together. @@abushinthewoods
Those fish fight like epileptic front loading washing machines. You did so well on this trip. Maybe next time you can include some footage of your delightful fishing partner?
They do fight like they want to rip your arms off. Re my fishing partner, let's just say you take your chances when you travel alone. 90% of the time everyone is great. 8% of the time you meet people you really connect with and you make long-term friendships. Then there's the remaining 2%. With those, you do what you can to have a good time despite the person. If you're lucky, you get the 8% and the 2% on the same trip and it balances out. You know what I mean?
Yeah, this was a big deal. It was my 50th birthday present from my family. Relative to other international fly fishing travel the actual trip cost isn't that much, but the airfare--that's the killer. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you and hoping for a big sale on flights so you can get there!
@@abushinthewoods I have a fund in a separate "Mongolia" account. I think I have $250 in it. haha. No more barn/vet surprise visits and it will start climbing. I'm 2% there!
I bet they'd take anything you gave them. Apparently the Mongols used to put treble hooks in marmots to catch them. They are absolutely ferocious. Re the footage, thanks--it's incredible what you can do with a GoPro, a drone, and a phone.
I booked it through Trident Travel (www.tridentflyfishing.com/travel-trv.html). The actual outfitter in Mongolia is Mongolia River Outfitters (mongoliarivers.com/).
I would love to ho fish for Taiman . But not with a fly rod I'm a spinning fisherman but I use flies for steelhead her on the Smith river in far north california . Beautiful fish taiman are.
YOU DO?!? Wait, of course you do! I wish I'd have known that. I should have asked. Next time I'll get a bunch (oh, there will be a next time alright). Hope you are doing well!
@antipodeaninterloper they are singles. It's hook in the rear, shank up front. If you wanna smash the barbs that's on you. But as I said, clearly, they are singles.
@@augustonthefly I know that guy--he didn't mean it like that. It was a PSA, not directed at you. (He's got the manners of a feral gorilla, so understandable it would come across differently.)
Yeah, this was my 50th birthday present and my whole family pitched in. The trip itself isn't crazy expensive in the world of international fly fishing travel--it's the flights that really kill the budget. Maybe there will be a big sale or something that would make it doable? I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!
I don't know how to tie it myself, as I only got to see part of it. I gather it's a pretty simple tube fly with buck tail, flashibu, and grizzly hackle. I actually think that's it, but no promises on that as far as materials. I was thinking I'd try to get him to video it and send it to me to post, and I am even more motivated now that you said something. I'll reach out and see what I can do!
Ha! I'm glad I managed to convey the essence of taimen fishing. I'll be honest, there were times when it felt unhealthy, but that made the eventual success that much sweeter in my view. I'd go back and suffer through it again in a heartbeat.. It is an extraordinary place and experience.
I am the amur trout in the video, it was a great experience for me too! Changed my life, thanks!
that amur trout, omg was gorgeous. awesome fishing and awesome footage. thanks for sharing.
thank you for posting this
