  • The challenge and diversity of Colorado's fisheries is truly awe-inspiring, as is the scenery, which is achingly beautiful. I recently met up with a friend in Colorado and we spent four days fishing in and around Gunnison National Forest, using the town of Almont, CO as our home base (Almont is where the East River and the Taylor River form the Gunnison River). The first two days (shown in this video) we had a guide row us down the Gunnison. The next day the guide took us to the catch and release (C&R) section of the Taylor River below the Taylor River Reservoir. We caught some incredible fish on light tippet and had some pretty epic battles and ridiculous moments. I hope this video entertains you, inspires you, and maybe even gives you some insights. Basically, I hope you enjoy it.
Sorry I'm late on this--between the traveling and work this was the best I could do. I'll try to get back on schedule next time. Thanks as always for watching.
Love, a Bush in the Woods

Nice video. That’s one of my favorite parts of Colorado. Been there a few times and still a lot of water I haven’t explored.

It's an extraordinary place. The diversity of the fisheries is amazing. There's always an option. I was surprised to see how much is private, including the streambeds. I get it--if I was a billionaire I might buy it up too, but it still makes me sad-mad.

Thanks Bushy. Was in Colorado a few years back, right about this same time. A mix of sun and snow. Couldn't agree more with your comments about the drift fishing. I will very occasionally use a guide, only when I am fishing completely new water and looking for some on-the-water intel.

Well, this was the river adaptation of "the old man and the sea." I don't think that rainbow, though not eaten by a shark, survived that fight. You might as well have tied it to the side of your car and got some rest at the hotel.
