LOVEBITES won the 2018 Metal Hammer Golden Gods award for best new band. A band filled with elite level musicians and a powerful vocalist. A twin axe attack that is one of the best in heavy metal. Are they the only band on this list who sings in all English?
Lovebites are a very good band, they was the first all female Jpanese band on Wacken Open Air, and next year they will participate at US Prog Power Festival, I think that will be a game changer, they will play a 90min set. And so far as I know, BRIDEAR like Oslo Hardrock Festival said, they have songs in English Check out Lonesome Blue, they have a full album and an Ep with only good english songs. I think that Lovebites is the only band from this list that can go down in the history of world rock and metal music as one of the most musical and technical for the entire existence of these genres in the past and present. Now it is difficult to find a metal band that creates a musical product (studio and concert releases) of the same level and quality. The only band that comes to mind is Dream Theater. But in terms of perspective, it is unlikely that Dream Theater will surpass its own achievements. Their time is running out. The potential of Lovebites has not been exhausted yet. On the contrary, I think we can expect their further growth. This was shown by their recent releases (studio and live albums). Surprisingly, Lovebites can become the first in history great world metal band from Japan. Who would have imagined such a thing. Especially after hearing the name of the group and seeing how it looks. :)

Just a minor point, but it is not correct to call LOVEBITES a Power Metal band. It is true that the majority of their songs do fit (more or less) under the "Power Metal" label, but musicaly they are much more diverse that that single sub-genre. For example, they have a number of straight Thrash Metal songs as heavy as anything by Slayer, Anthrax or Testament.
Hi @777Phoebe Japanes eRock and Metal are difficult to put in a ganre, since many f them have a blend of different styles. Asami (Lovebites) always end the live concert with "we are Lovebites and play heavy metal" but they have poer-metal songs and even heavy songs like Swan Song and old schol speed metal song slike Soldoier stands solitarily. Same as Aldious, some say they play rock, others say they play heavy metal, and songs like "We Are" are apowerful fast song that are much better than any europen/US metal bands. And this is why I like Japanese Female Rock Metal band, they are not locked into one music style, but can combined the genre.

I'm glad these bands are touring overseas. This year I have seen NEMOPHILA, HANABIE, BAND-MAID, BABYMETAL, ASTERISM, and PassCode. They are all awesome IMO. If they come back to the US, I would definitely go see them again. I'm hoping more of these bands can make it overseas.
I think that was a good experience, I bet you had a good time it's nice of you to support the bands, and I really hope more of these bands will tour outside Japan, and I think they will too since their popularity has increased, Rock on 😎👌
My favourites out of these are probably Lovebites and Gacharic Spin. The former for their fantastic musicianship and pure metal sound and the latter for their incredibly varied and eclectic sound. They arguably have the most unique sound out of all of these bands. But people really need to look beyond what's most popular. I highly recommend OOIOO, led by Yoshimi P-We from legendary noise rock act Boredoms. They deserve a lot more recognition. And then there are Otoboke Beaver, arguably one of the best punk acts active today. This list is only scratching the surface.

@@1970Phoenix Band-maid is not a hard rock band. There are elements of hard rock in their work, but in general, neither the content not the form of their music can be attributed to hard rock. It is very unlikely that many of their fans listen to real hard rock at all. And I don't think they're like it if they hear it.

But no one would think of comparing Band-Maid with hard rock legends, for example, such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple or Black Sabbath. In any case, I have never seen such a thing. And there is every reason for this, too. The songs of Band-Maid are not at all similar to the epic compositions of these groups.

I really love the Japanese Female Rock/Metal Scene. It's making the world take notes. It blows me away to see an 8-year old girl playing EVH Eruption. or thier favourite Band-Maid/Baby Metal/MTH drum lines or whatevre........ They really do have "special water" in Japan.
Looking at the comments makes you think Lovebites is the most popular band from Japan in this list, but in reality, Scandal has the largest number of monthly Spotify listeners, Hanabie the second, and Band-Maid the third. Lovebites' listeners are one tenth Hanabie's. It's just their fans are the loudest and the most toxic.
It seems like LOVEBITES and Band-Maid should have topped this list, also missed were Lonesome_Blue and East of Eden - have Victor Entertainment upset you somehow? lol

Nice list, but as long as you're including groups that are no longer active you might want to check out some of the REAL first wave of female Japanese metal/rock. Groups like Magenda, Flying Vision, and most famously Show-Ya. Show-Ya was easily as talented musically as any on this list, and many current artists cite them as an influence. You should really give them a listen if you like high energy J-Rock and metal.
Baby-Metal are coming up, but could notuse them in this list since they have male musicians. I will soon go to a concert with them, so watch out in Novmeber for a concert review.
One of the things I find disapointing with these type of things, is that they normaly always miss out one band. It's the band that should get more credit than they do, and that band is Show-Ya. Not only were Show-ya the 1st all female band in Japan, they have done so much for the female bands around today, with naonのyaon. While I'll agree they are not a top band today, but they have helped and suported so many of them.

Seems by ‘rock’ hard rock is implied - there are other forms- math rock would have been one of tricot had stayed with a female drummer; what about punk rock? Otoboke Beaver would surely be up there.
It's funny how a handful just seem to resonate with a western audience more than others. They're all extremely talented musicians, but you seem to hear the same 3, maybe 4 bands repeated over and over as "favorites." And I don't think that's a matter of marketing, I think they've tapped into something that makes them more accessible to Western audiences.

Not even mention Show-Ya in this list shows that the content creator lacking of knowledge on all-female-bands in Japan. The legendary Show-Ya is the mother of all nowadays Japanese all-female-bands. It is like putting the list of heavy metal/trash metal bands but not even mention Metallica or Megadeath or Antrax or Slayer or Brazilians Sepultura.
After listening to a large part of the discography of all these bands, I came to the conclusion that they all sounded the same and predictable to me. It amuses me that the musicians of these bands, even with all their technicalities, cannot compose a good song, for the most part. In most cases these lack real emotions as if everything were faked and exaggerated... They do not project what they play because they do not really feel it, because for them it is more important to "play very well" than to express an emotion, a message or a feeling.

Nice list, but as long as you're including groups that are no longer active you might want to check out some of the REAL first wave of female Japanese metal/rock. Groups like Magenda, Flying Vision, and most famously Show-Ya. Show-Ya was easily as talented musically as any on this list, and many current artists cite them as an influence. You should really give them a listen if you like high energy J-Rock and metal.

Baby-Metal are coming up, but could notuse them in this list since they have male musicians. I will soon go to a concert with them, so watch out in Novmeber for a concert review.
One of the things I find disapointing with these type of things, is that they normaly always miss out one band. It's the band that should get more credit than they do, and that band is Show-Ya. Not only were Show-ya the 1st all female band in Japan, they have done so much for the female bands around today, with naonのyaon. While I'll agree they are not a top band today, but they have helped and suported so many of them.
They weren't the first. But I agree that people shouldn't forget about them.

It's funny how a handful just seem to resonate with a western audience more than others. They're all extremely talented musicians, but you seem to hear the same 3, maybe 4 bands repeated over and over as "favorites." And I don't think that's a matter of marketing, I think they've tapped into something that makes them more accessible to Western audiences.

Yeah, they are crazy and energic, and hace a good live performance.
Not even mention Show-Ya in this list shows that the content creator lacking of knowledge on all-female-bands in Japan. The legendary Show-Ya is the mother of all nowadays Japanese all-female-bands. It is like putting the list of heavy metal/trash metal bands but not even mention Metallica or Megadeath or Antrax or Slayer or Brazilians Sepultura.

After listening to a large part of the discography of all these bands, I came to the conclusion that they all sounded the same and predictable to me. It amuses me that the musicians of these bands, even with all their technicalities, cannot compose a good song, for the most part. In most cases these lack real emotions as if everything were faked and exaggerated... They do not project what they play because they do not really feel it, because for them it is more important to "play very well" than to express an emotion, a message or a feeling.
