Investigations could take up to a year or two depending on the situation. Now you gotta worry about paying rent, flooring companies, and the workers. Plus the car value goes down during that time. They will have the cops, the Highway patrol, and firefighters to inspect your business and a whole lotta more paperwork. Even if you come out clean, you still have a red flag on your business for a certain amount of time, which can hurt you if you are taking a loan out or trying to do business with other companies.

The CNC location on 20th Street was always weird for a high-end auto dealer, adjacent and downwind from a concrete/gypsum plant. The more valuable cars were stored indoors, but at the peak there was a lot of inventory in the parking lot.

An an auditor I have seen this situation on a number of occasions. Bottom line, innocent buyers will be able to keep the cars they paid for and sellers only recourse will be with the dealer. There may also be some buyers whom paid for the purchase of a vehicle and not taken delivery. Very unfortunate, although the dealer may also be looking at jail time given the large scale of apparent fraud which will be difficult to explain. Best to all other than the dealer!
Markups on high-demand cars are totally legal, you're not forced to buy the car. What's CNC Motors did is totally against the law and against all moral premises.
