The Impossible Route: FAR WEST TEXAS (Cycling Documentary)

- Опубликовано: 23 июл 2024
- Can we ride 350 mi / 563 km of the WORST gravel imaginable...IN ONE RIDE!?!? The Impossible Route enters season 2 with a BANG! JB and I tackle a new adventure through FAR West Texas. This route takes us STRAIGHT THROUGH the night! It was... INTENSE!
RULES:
We are FULLY self-supported with the exception of two cache drops at mile 80 & 210. Outside of those two caches, every drop of water, food, and support HAS to come from our own supplies.
ROUTE:
This route started in a small town on the FAR WEST border of Texas. We cut through both the state and national parks of the Big Bend area. Parts of this route has been done before, but never all in one shot AND there is an unknown section of the course that has not been touched since the 1700s.
TERRAIN:
Road turns to smooth hard packed dirt, which turns to chunky single track, which then degrades into absolute WILDERNESS. It is the HARDEST gravel possible, anything more difficult would be rock climbing.
STRAVA ROUTE: / strava
SUPPORT: ( www.paypal.com/paypalme/vegan... )We do have a budget from amazing sponsors but that covers hard costs. JB and I do NOT get paid to do these. I personally have 200 + hours into this edit alone. I do all the editing, graphics, music, and hype for free. We do not put mid-roll ads and we maintain a clean, no sponsorship plug style story in each episode. SOOoooo, if you felt like this was worth a buck, it goes A LONG WAY!

SEASON 1 was a huge learning curve on all fronts. Route logistics, film production, and especially the actual riding. We pushed ourselves well past our limit… and now for season 2, we went even DEEPER! Both JB and I appreciate all the support you have given to this film project since its start in 2020. ONWARD AND UPWARD as they say, hope you enjoy this film :)
If you watch this and feel it was worth a cup of coffee, any support goes A LONG WAY. www.paypal.com/paypalme/vegancyclist

great job brother! the crazy thing is you're also FILMING the whole time. Insane. Then you edited this whole thing, wow. Awesome movie Tyler
I want to know what you were saying to Jeremiah at 47:25 lol
Bro, what the hell? What did you drop on us? The music fit per-fect-ly, like a Hollywood scored feature. The cinematography gets better and better with each adventure. The story telling gets more riveting and inspiring. Top notch graphics, spot-on editing. Man, can't be more impressed. Bravo Dude. What a masterpiece.
Love it! Also, I agree, Osprey is amazing. I used to ride on the 60mile long desert trails outside of Vegas and I’d recommend upgrading the hose on the Osprey. Hydrapak makes the bladders for Osprey, and Hydrapak offers a black insulated tube called Hydrafusion and you’d probably want to also get the plug and play quick disconnect with it. Its about $20 for both. Advantages, water doesn’t get as hot sitting around in the tube, and I prefer the blue hydrapak branded mouthpiece because its easier to close the lock and also comes with a dust cap that you may or may not use.
There is one potential disadvantage. Instead of using the inline quick disconnect, hydrapaks disconnect goes on at the bottom. Personally I like being able to take the entire tube off (less annoying for cleaning), but some people like the inline disconnect as they find it easier to remove the bladder for fillups.
Anyway, thanks for the great film!
How come you used gravel bikes instead of an XC bike?
Just think, if Specialized would've provided the bike to Tyler like they were supposed to years ago (before that gravel race), he would have never had to frantically look for another bike to ride, would have never met Jeremiah outside with his Canyon van that day, and the relationship between those two (that we all love to watch in these videos) may have never happened. Life rips.
It’s wild to think about. #fate
Sliding doors
Specialized makes taiwan garbage carbon anyways. Canyon actually looks through all their frames for serious flaws
So awesome u told me this. I didnt know how they met. Thats badass
Their relationship is really tight. Kindred spirits. Their journeys they go on is go big or go home. I watching this for second time rn.
Thx man.
Peace
That's the good butterfly effect
So stoked for this one!. And SO glad I am not riding this right now. Really this is magic to see it on screen. Heading into this there was so much doubt, so many hurdles and so many times VC and I thought "oh well this video is not meant to be"! We pass the test of life by just giving it what we can. And I think the pressure brought the best out of all of us and for that I am thank full. I hope you enjoy it!
You guys just keep crushin!!
You guys should do a blue ridge parkway impossible ride. You can mix road and trail, gravel and dirt. Steep and rural but sometimes a bit trafficked. Great work routing all the missions, can’t wait to see where you take Tyler next.
@@Laf-Adventures that would be awesome!
Beyond badass
So how do you integrate these rides with your training for big races?
Loved this, as always. I think the first 10 minutes of this was some of the strongest filmmaking I've seen from you. The voiceover of you talking to JB on the intro, the shots of you and JB shivering and looking ragged AF, the music when you're rolling out, the drone shots and cuts of you cleaning tough sections... so good. Congrats on an amazing adventure and a great piece of storytelling!
Thanks Josh! I was ready to cry a couple times out there. I couldn’t feel my feet for two weeks after that!!
@@jeremiahbishopswheelhouse I can only imagine. That hike a bike section through the caldera looked brutal (physically and psychologically). I’m glad your knee is feeling better and you’re back at it!
Great work. This was far more entertaining and insightful than any tv show or netflix show or whatever and I just cant believe that you were able to do all this and give it away for free on youtube.
agree. Love this cycling docu thing. I'd really like to see Tyler go solo on one of these though.. adds a new dimension of fear and loathing.
Jeremiah saying this isn't in his wheelhouse like we didn't watch the other episodes 🤪 amazing effort boys, top edit as always. Inspiring as always! To the next one 🍻
The production quality in this one is next level! And the content, of what you guys aspired to and did achieve. So inspiring. All in all, feels like something I'm used to paying for at the cinema, better than the standard fare there even. So yeah, here's my price of admission. Well done. 100% Certified Fresh!
Definitly the detail attetion talent storytelling is real.
Another vegan angel!
You all motivate me , I love y'all I'm a mountainbikerr with a disability I've been on dialysis for more than 15 years and every time I see the impossible route it makes me want to go that much harder thanks you guys!!!
If you're ever in augusta georgia look me up tacos is on me!!!!!

Wow
Wow dude, I thought this was a professional editing company. You are a legit filmmaker, not just a really good RUclips video content producer. This is legitimate film, legitimate documentary, and legitimate pro quality edit and storytelling work. It’s as impressive as the ride itself.
Thanks for the inspiration Tyler!
Your series of impossible routes have inspired me soooo much.
Im doing a 354 mile route around Swedens largest lake in 10 days. It will be crazy.
Keep Up your storytelling!
Hell yeah boys! Always an honor to help document your suffering!
Thanks Ben you rocked the shots. Really top notch!
I really appreciate all the crazy adventures you go on. Since I am unable to do so I get to live vicariously through you and that helps me through tough times. Keep being awesome and inspiring to us average guys!
We are all human, it is our mind that decides to do the stuff that seems impossible! Keep Rocking! CJ C.! And thank you.
And I thought I was making a poor life choice by attempting Gravel Locos 155 this Saturday:-). This is amazing.
See you there! I’m in Hico all week!
The Impossible Route videos are so far the best Cycling Documentary ever made. Thank you Tyler and Jeremiah for such beautiful and inspiring moments. ❣
NO FREAKIN' WAY! Another one!!!! TVC delivering once again with what looks to be a sensational epic ride! I'm gonna cancel all my appointments (I had none), turn off my phone, kick back and enjoy the show. Thank you TVC for making such great content!!! I'm 3:00 in and I'm already having a nerdgasm!
This one was just EPIC. Story, music, production. Everything was just perfect!
Wow, not only are you’re routes getting more epic but your filmmaking too! I’m 61y/o average vegan guy, started cycling in 2019, you inspire me to push myself. I’m up to 130mile rides & doing the GFNY New York this Sunday- the timing of this film release was meant to be. Your just do it attitude… is awesome.
I needed a kick in the butt, started to doubt myself , failure will not be an option!
Thanks for all your vids
Hell yeah!
*** You made an IG story a few months back that I took a screen recording of, and listen/watch it a couple times a month. You mention that when you do big efforts, it's all about the mind, and you decide to do it months in advance. When you TRULY decide to do something, not well, maybe, we'll see.... like TRULY decide, the future timeline has been stamped. It's already done. Future you has to go through the experience. Future you is moving through oceans of time. Finish line beers, bro. Helped me truly decide to ride unPAved Susquehanna this coming October (would love to see you do that one). Congrats on this effort, guys. My favorite one so far. - Todd ***
This should have been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary. Simply incredible.
Thanks dude! This was my favorite edit I’ve done.
This had me in tears. "You ate 17 steak taco's...of course you are going to feel a bit bloated". Fucking comedy gold bro!!! Quality of the movie is top notch and just ridiculously enjoyable to watch.
Man I love watching these I’m sitting here at work listening and watching you guys
You know after watching all of these...It strikes me that rather than getting down if you fail (which you did a better job of on this one) you should be excited! The goal is to do impossible rides, stuff that just can't be done. A lot of these you actually do complete, so the ones that you fail on, should be celebrated as a success of finding out what is actually impossible. Also you road over 300 miles in 2 days. You are an athlete. Thanks for the great vid!
This is awesome!! Love the music track: so appropriate for south Texas, and love the scene where you shut your headlights out and rode my the moonlight. Also love the cartoon at 34:00 and your descriptions of the night sky.. Love your team attitude! GREAT JOB!!
I hiked the Outer Mountain loop at Big Bend several years ago, ran out of water halfway through and was legitimately fearing for my life. My legs were also completely destroyed by cacti, so I really can't imagine what it would be like hiking these unmaintained trails while in lycra and carrying a bike (with >200 miles left to ride??). This is an incredible accomplishment.
I had a very similar experience; thinking that I could hike from Rio Grande Valley campsite to Panther Junction HQ across the desert. Ran out of water, shredded by briar, and almost fell over a ledge in pitch black, moon-less night making my way back. Big Bend is character-building and humbling. Glad we survived. The Impossible Route through Big Bend is such an awesome accomplishment!
Fantastic! The description of the stars, the tater tots in the frame bag, the sound track, the film quality. Loved all of it. Thank you and the whole team for putting this together
Wow. I'm not even really sure what to say about this one. Congratulations guys. That was crazy. Zero failure by changing route. That was just smart risk management. maybe if you could have ridden through the caldera go that way, but skipping hike a bike/bush whack in the dark was the right move. Glad to hear VC not calling himself an average Joe anymore because you are not.
Agreed. He is exceptional at this distance! So check out www.theimpossibleroute.com SO much more info and includes the improved routes we develop, Just allow twice as much time
This is SO high quality. Congrats on creating a legit FILM, man. I was so into the storyline and engaged in every moment. You guys are also animals, insane.
Really happy that Texas and west Texas was definitely represented in this episode. I am constantly jealous of other states and cities that have endless public land and gravel routes and having to see Texas be all private land shoot you on the spot if they find you in their “roads”. From El Paso to big bend is about 4 hours and I love traveling there and never would have thought they would have made an episode here. Thanks for representing Texas big! Next do the New Mexico off road runner in 4 days ! 500 miles of blissful and most crazy gravel routes out here in the southwest !
New Mexico eh? DM details. Sounds cool!
"The greatest cure for fear, is action.." beautiful. All of it was beautiful.
Thanks for making these great videos.
I met Jeremy Bishop at Snowshoe last September at UCI mountain bike races-- what I nice down to earth guy.
Amazing, keep them coming!
@15:04 hats off for doing that climb with a mouth mount! That some respect for the content creation and viewer
This is awesome as always... big fan here... BTW went to Yosemite last years (I´m from Costa Rica), brought my bike and your videos were 100% my tour guide! so I can imagine people replicating parts of these impossible routes
Love the series and the messages. Congrats on making another one. Hope you get to make many more.
Thank you guys for the inspiration.
I recently solo self supported 500 miles from mid Florida to Alabama via greenways and highways. I made a little story on instagram and had a ton of support from friends and family. I succeeded in my mission despite double sidewall blowouts, many flats, and surprisingly cold nights.
This is only the beginning of my multi day bike adventures. Thank you for helping me with the courage to take on my first mission.
Another great vid! Thanks so much for your hard work and dedication!
Always inspiring to see. Thank you
Great job ! )) waiting for a next one ! your team work inspires a lot !
So good! Another great video.

You been spending some good time out in far west Texas! Love it!
great work , guys. Especially liked the snack scene at 27 hours... Love this series. Watched this after a century ride today with 9000' of climbing, wasn't sure I could do that as an old fart at 60, tons of angst and doubt going in, but I crushed it. Action cures the fear. Two wheels, one love...
Another amazing adventure! Loved the message to get after it at the end!!
AMAZING!!!! Congrats to both!
I‘m just loving each and every video of this series!! Keep it up my man

Thankful to you two adventurers and everybody behind the scenes, these routes have changed how I ride. The raw footage, highs and lows in these landscapes truly is nuts. Fear gives way to action !
